Leo Byrne is a cop, Jason Banks is an ex-con. Even after one stolen kiss, something has to give before Leo can convince Jason that falling in love is even an option.Adopted at a young age, Leo is part of the sprawling Byrnes family. With his dog Cap, three siblings and a whole mess of nieces and nephews, he is never lonely, and his life is full. Love is the last item on his to-do list, but seeing … list, but seeing his best friends Sean and Eric happy and making new families makes him want things he doesn’t think is possible. Kissing Jason at an event to honor his bravery was one thing, but anything other than that is off limits. Until Jason has no one left to turn to, and it’s Leo who helps him at his lowest. Taking Jason and his daughter into his home is one thing, but falling for the ex-con is something else altogether.
Jason made a deal to keep his daughter safe and spent years behind bars as a result. Volunteering as a convict firefighter was as much about helping the community as saving his sanity, but now that he’s out, he doesn’t even have that. He’s lost his future, his self-respect, and has no friends or a place to call home. Worst of all, even after rescuing his daughter he still can’t keep her safe from the man who wants to use her as a bargaining chip for money. Meeting Leo might give Jason a way to keep Daisy safe, but falling for the stubborn cop means the truth has to be revealed, and he could lose everything all over again.

Leo, the third and last man standing from our first responders found love in ex-convict, Jason and his adorable daughter Daisy, both who were on the run from Daisy’s past. As the two men learned to trust each other and Daisy eased her way into trusting Leo herself, all three fell in love with each other and got the happily ever after they deserved.
4.5 Stars
I love the Single Dad series. Each book just hits you in the heart. This one is no exception. It’s Leo’s turn to find his HEA. Jason and his little girl just break your heart, but seeing them find safety with Leo gives you hope for their future. Daisy is so adorable. She really steals the show for me. She’s so mature and grown up for her age. The companionship between her and Cap, Leo’s dog, is so heartwarming. The characters are just going to draw you right in. I couldn’t put this one down. Leo and Jason will melt your heart. I loved Leo’s family especially his mom. All I kept thinking was Jason and Daisy deserve someone like her in their life. The epilogue is everything. I was left with a huge smile on my face when I finished this book. I can’t wait for the next book.
really enjoyed reading this story, single Dads are always one of the best kind to read. RJ Scott has again done a fantastic job writing their story! Leo, police officer, was injured and is now off work for a while with his leg. Nothing stops him from moving much, even the crutches. When he spots someone at his neighbor’s house, turns out to be Jason and a little girl. Jason the guy he kissed, couldn’t stop thinking about but who had disappeared and here he was asking for help.
Leo wants to help Jason and the sweet little girl Daisy, protect them from what they are hiding from, keep them safe. But he wants much more and Jason is reluctant to give that to him. Slowly the trust starts to build, the smiles and laughter, and genuine friendship. It’s a fantastic story, learning about each other, giving in to help, bringing a little girl the safety she needs and stability. Falling in love isn’t the hard part, it’s holding on and believing you can have it all.
Absolutely a must read series and a great third book! Leo, Jason and Daisy tug at the heartstrings, make you want to protect them all from evil and let them have that happily ever after they deserve!
This is such a sweet and sexy love story. Jason is a great character who would do anything for his daughter Daisy. Leo is an injured cop who is torn between his suspicions about Jason and his attraction to the man. I adore Jason, Leo, Daisy, and Leo’s dog Cap. It is lovely, and sometimes painful, to watch them begin to become a family.
This is a great installment in the Single Dads series, though it can also stand alone. Great characters and an exciting story make this a wonderful read.
This story is such a fantastic addition to the series. Jason has always been a favorite of mine, and I’m so excited he finally got his own HEA. This one is full of emotion, and Jason’s struggle to trust in Leo feels natural and understandable. I loved seeing him learn to trust, and to love, Leo. It’s definitely not an easy road, but with the help of friends who are like family, and one wonderful little girl, just maybe Jason and Leo can find what they are looking for.. together.
This book can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend starting with the first in the series to fully enjoy the story and its characters.
I have been looking forward to this book ever since Jason was introduced in book 2. I knew he had quite the story to tell and I was anxious to read it. I knew from the start that I would love Jason and Leo together. I knew their journey would most likely be filled with past pain, past and current misunderstandings, sometimes terrifying nightmares , along with mutual and explosive attraction and most definitely love . What they and Daisy have been through tore at my heart , but how they handle what had happened to each of them and come out the other side as they do, was so well written.
I loved revisiting with Sean, Ash and Eric along with Mama, Reid, Jax and… one cannot forget Cap!
This was such a wonderful addition to the series and I have fingers, toes and everything else crossable , crossed that we get some more from this wonderful family….with Jax’s twin being found and possibly his own HEA.
I was lucky enough to be given an Advanced Readers Copy for my honest review.
5/5 Hedgehogs!
Book 3 brings Leo and Jason to the fore. Jason has trouble chasing him. Leo although suspicious needs to protect both Jason and the star of this book Daisy. Surrounded by other loved characters and some new engaging ones, we watch the romance develop between these two emotionally nervous guys. This continues to be a lovely series to read, the type of book, once started the reader doesn’t want to leave. I got to the end thinking, Noooooo it’s done. But then I read in the author Bio there will be at least 2 more. Yay!. Recommended but read them all.
**********Contains Spoilers**********
This book was awesome and my favourite book of the series so far. I loved the connection between Leo and Jason when they finally got rid of everything between them like Jason’s misunderstanding that Leo made a mistake in kissing him because Jason was an ex-con and Leo was a Cop but it was that he regretted doing it then in the bathroom of the fire station where Jason got an award for saving Eric, Jason doesn’t trust Leo because he was a cop and the Feds that were meant to keep Rain and Daisy his daughter safe didn’t do a very good job but they both need somewhere safe to stay until they’re free, Leo ended up scaring Daisy when he heard her tell Sean that Daddy-B hurt mommy and all Leo heard was that Daddy hurt mommy then he saw red and shoved Jason into a wall, it was because Leo’s dad hurt him badly when he was about Daisy’s age and didn’t want anyone to hurt her.
Jason knew that the only reason Leo lost his sh*t was because he thought he’d been the one hurting Daisy and was trying to protect her, which made Jason’s decision to stay with Leo easier as he knew that he’d protect her, even if he struggled awhile with Leo being a Cop, due to everything the Feds promised but didn’t deliver. I loved how much Cap helped Daisy and how protective of her he was. I loved how much Leo cared for and spoilt both Mia and Daisy and it was cool to see Jason slowly drop his defensive shell and slowly be less protective of Daisy and you can see how much he starts to trust Leo as he doesn’t panic when he wakes up and she isn’t next to him. I like how Leo and Jason’s relationship slowly grows into something meaningful. I think it cool how Leo’s family basically adopts Jason and Daisy from first hearing about him and seeing him again after his award ceremony and meeting Daisey for the first time when Leo brings them to his parents for Thanksgiving. I loved how much Daisy ended up trusting Leo and loving him as she was happy to hug him and talk to him when she was upset. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
Trust your gut, but throw in a dash of compassion. Leo stressing over liking Jason, the ex-con. He has an idea of Jason’s story knowing there is more, but his mind is stuck on him being an ex-con. His initial reaction to seeing Jason with Daisy is Jason must be wrong. Daisy has lived through some major conflict and trauma in her young life, but still manages to be a sweetheart! Jason, is caught in the human dilemma of trying to do the right thing while keeping his family safe. He is hurt, tired, protective and afraid. Will Leo dig too deep? From whom is Jason in danger? Will Leo’s sense of duty endanger Jason? Can Leo protect Daisy and Jason with a mid-thigh cast? What does Melanie think of Daisy? Danger and adrenaline rush always add a bit of spice and kick to a potential romance. Great story, well done!
Edited to add my comments on the audiobook 6/25/20
Overall – 5
Performance – 5
Story – 5
Wonderful story, great narration.
Sean Crisden did his usual great job with his performance of this book by RJ Scott that I loved so much when I first read it. I love listening to books that I’ve already read because the audio always seems to make the story come alive for me even more the second time around.
Below is what I wrote when I read the book back in November 2019.
Another great addition to the series.
I have loved each book in this series but this one really tore me apart before it put me back together again. Ever since I read Today, I’ve really wanted to know Jason’s story. I’ve wanted to know Leo’s, too but I just knew there would be something intriguing about Jason.
Promise is the third book in the Single Dads series. While you could read it as a standalone, I really think you should read books 1 and 2 to get the full enjoyment of all of the characters. Book 1 is about Ash and Sean, book 2 is about Eric and Brady and now, book 3 is about Leo and Jason. Sean, Eric and Leo are buddies who live together until they each find their love-match. Jason helps to save Eric’s life in book 2.
The blurb gives you all the details of the story but it can’t tell you the depth of Jason’s feelings for his daughter, Daisy and, eventually, Leo. RJ’s wonderful words on the page conjure up all the feels that this story deserves. Jason needs help, and he needs to learn to trust Leo, but it’s hard. Leo knows that Jason isn’t telling him everything but he’s trying to be patient. His cop instincts warn him not to trust Jason but his heart tells him something else.
There isn’t a lot of complicated plot in this story, or a lot of hot sexy time, but it isn’t needed. What’s important are the relationships between all of the characters and how they come together to help each other.
Another reason this story really resonated with me is the dedication. RJ Scott’s dog, Jack, crossed over the rainbow bridge about a month before my beloved Buttons did. Cap, the dog in this and the other Single Dad books, is based on Jack. Just reading RJ’s heartfelt dedication brings tears to my eyes. Cap gets lots of well-deserved mentions in Promise.
I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series.
A copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

Intense
I spent the whole book worried that Billy would break into Leo’s house. What did happen was just about as dramatic. I love despite everything that is happening the relationship between Leo and Jason is allowed to build naturally.
I have read the first three books in the series. Promise is a good read and I recommend it. It is very typical of an RJ Scott romance. The only reason I did not rate it higher was I had a difficult time relating to the characters in this book in the series. Generally I can relate to the authors’ characters but for some reason I had difficulty see these men as realistic. Other readers will have to form their own judgements.
