A broken promise reveals a terrifying legacy in this electrifying New York Times bestseller from the author of Untouchable.Seattle gallery owner Virginia Troy has spent years battling the demons that stem from her childhood time in a cult and the night a fire burned through the compound killing her mother. And now one of her artists has taken her own life, but not before sending Virginia a last … before sending Virginia a last picture…a painting that makes Virginia doubt everything about the so-called suicide—and her own past…
Like Virginia, PI Cabot Sutter was one of the children in the cult who survived that fire—and only he can help her now. As they struggle to unravel the clues in the picture, it becomes clear that someone thinks Virginia knows more than she does and that she must be stopped. Thrown into an inferno of desire and deception, Virginia and Cabot draw ever closer to the mystery of their shared memories—and the shocking fate of the one man who still wields the power to destroy everything they hold dear.

An incident from 22 years ago comes to light, will the nightmares blend into reality?
Virginia and Cabot are connected, both survivors of a horror when they were children.
I loved the twists and turns in this story, it kept me guessing until the end. The banter between the characters lightened the mood from all the drama. I was glued to my kindle and absolutely loved it.
For fans of Jayne Ann Krentz, this book does not disappoint. The good guys are well-drawn characters with some complexity, the villains, less defined, but suitably sneaky and scary. The plot is complex, but not too hard to follow and fits together well. All of it done within the standard Romance formula!
As always Jayne delivers a fantastic thrill ride for her readers!
Second in a series. Another page turner
As always Jayne grabs your attention on the first page and holds on to it until the last. The only problem with this book is that you don’t want to put it down until you read the last word on the last page.
One of my favorite authors! Again, Jayne drew me into her world with wonderfully developed characters I could actually believe could be my friends. I love that her female characters are strong women but with the same worries, vulnerabilities that plague us all. And most importantly they are survivors, who make their happy ever after come true. Even their tragedies , stresses and yes, maybe even poor judgement at times, in the end make them stronger. And when I get to the last page I find myself looking eagerly to her next book. Do I believe that the real world is a romance/suspense novel? No, but I wish it could be. And for the time I spent immersed in Promise Not to Tell, I could believe in “HAPPILY EVER AFTER “
Jayne Ann never fails to create believable characters that jump off the page. Another one of her books that I started and finished in one setting… I know to block out a day when I get a new one of her books… I just don’t want to put them down…
Book two in a series. When The Girls Have Gone is the first book.
I enjoyed reading about the mystery/romance between Virginia and Cabot.
I felt at the last couple of chapters it was a little long.
I really enjoyed Cabot’s and Victoria’s story, which continues the saga of the brothers search for the man who killed their mothers. Looking forward to hearing Jack’s story next.
Enjoy the ongoing story of the children who survived the cult fire. Engaging quirky characters and love story.
I love this author whether she is Jayne Ann Krentz, Jayne Castle, or Amanda Quick. All of her books are very entertaining.
Second in a series and very satisfying. The heroine and hero develop a realistic relationship based on their shared experience with one devastating traumatic event. Both are damaged, but that is their strength together because they understand where each other is coming from. The plot is complex and keeps the reader on the edge of his/her seat trying to figure out the connections between all the players. The end goes a little long–rather like the last Lord of the Rings movie, Return of the King, that could end several times before it actually ends. Since this is book two and book three is coming in 2019, it has to set the stage for the final confrontation. I can understand that, but the end does drag on, so be prepared.
Book 2 in the Cutler, Sutter & Salinas series is just as exciting as the first one. The characters are fascinating, the dialogue amusing and the plot a fast pace page turner, but with short chapters, so you can take a break when needed. The author’s style has changed over the years, and they used to be steamier.
Her books are dependably good reads. I’ve never been disappointed with her work, either as herself or as Amanda Quick or as Jayne Castle. This one is no exception. It’s tense at times, the pacing is fast, the ending is explosive, and there is an HEA ending. What more could you ask for in a book?
Virginia Troy and Cabot Sutter survived not only their childhood in an oppressive cult but the hellish end to it when cult leader Zane Quinton torched the cult compound, killing most of the adult cult members. The handful of children members locked in a burning barn were heroically rescued by police officer Anson Salinas. Three boys rescued that night, including Cabot, became Anson’s wards and later his business partners in a private investigations firm. Zane Quinton allegedly died fleeing authorities but Anson, Cabot and the other two “boys” never believed he really was dead….
Virginia was saved that night by Anson but turned over to her grandparents. Although deeply scarred by the events of that night, Virginia successfully became an art gallery owner but cannot overcome her anxiety to be successful in her romantic relationships. Her past in the cult is always lurking, especially since one of the few surviving adult cult members, artist Hannah Brewster, has befriended her and sends disturbing artwork depicting that fiery, tragic night. When Hannah sends a final “message” then dies, Virginia seeks out the services of Cutler, Sutter & Salinas to investigate…..
And so we are off and running in another great adventure created by the talented Ms. Krentz! This story is well-plotted and populated with interesting characters that have just enough quirkiness to be fascinating, not annoying. The suspense is spot on, as always, but what I really liked about this book the way the romance developed. Virginia and Cabot are so scarred and flawed by their shared past, personal relationships just never worked for them individually. But together, these two knew how to woo each other, which made for a very satisfying romance dance! And the end revelation and “cliff-hanger” only whett
Life in a cult isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Especially if the leader is named Zane. This story is a definite page turner. I hope to see the characters in another book.
Good, unusual story. Great characters who are dealing with a very unpleasant time in their childhoodhood. Can’t wait for next book in series.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s a good mystery with great characters.
Always this author has great storytelling that brings you in
Seemed a lot like her last novel but still worth reading.
