Sage Carrigan never meant to be the other woman. Unfortunately, bronco rider Dawson O’Dell neglected to mention he was married the night he invited her to his bed after they’d both placed first in their rodeo events. When his wife walked in on them – Sage was deeply hurt and humiliated. After an accident in the ring the next day, Sage decides she’s quitting the rodeo–and cowboys—to become a … become a chocolatier in her hometown ranching community, Marietta, Montana. She’s doing just fine, but then Dawson shows up —five years later, with a little girl in tow. He’s here for the Copper Mountain Rodeo hoping to win big. But he’s also got plans of settling down with his daughter and buying a house—the very same one that Sage has been dreaming about. He says he’s here for her and he’s making lots of promises. If you are looking for a little old fashion romance this is just the book for you.
Dawson falls in love with Sage takes her to bed where his psycho wife, who he thought was divorcing him, find them and aims a shot gun at them and the rest goes downhill from there until he shows up five years later wanting a second chance. Personally I think Sage should have kicked him in the balls then kicked him to the curb. For some reason I was expecting a lot of steam but got an old fashion romance instead. The characters where larger than life and melted my heart and I look forward to reading the rest of the series and hope to hear more about the enigma that is Sage’s father.
I think it is interesting when I find a book that ties two series together, it will be interesting to see is the author was able to maintain the continuity of her character even as the evolve from story to story.
I would have giving this book five stars but I think it needs some more editing done. I found a sentence that I am sure was missing a word as it made no sense at all.

Great book couldn’t put it down.
A fast paced, sweet and light-hearted romance.
Could have been sweet, but it’s hard to like a book where the main male character was a full on stalker, pushy jerk and has an ego the size of a planet. He followed Sage wherever she went and went so far as to move to her town and buy a house after he treated her so terribly by lying, telling half truths and using his size to try to intimidate her and at times sexually assaulting her. Yes, kissing someone against their will is SEXUAL ASSAULT. So what is described as a sweet cowboy small town romance isn’t that, but is about a man who can’t accept no. And Sage, grow a damn spine. If you’ve got any respect for women skip this awful rude heinous title that is mostly about a man who can’t take the word no.
I unfortunately read these out of order, but I love the family. The characters are great and I’m really enjoying the writing of C.J. Carmichael.
Audible Escape. 2 stars. Narration 4 stars. I know this was a novella so it was short. But the problem was that the author spent so much time world building and introducing secondary and tertiary characters ~ that the MCs were left with very little time. Dawson & Sage’s actual current relationship was probably less than an hour of the book. Sadly, I don’t even think Dawson actually redeemed himself ~ he was *still* married, even if in the process of divorce when he approached Sage again.
Unfortunately there are sooooooo many additional characters and storylines that nothing really peaks my interest in wanting to continue.
FYI, but not impacting my rating: I read/listen to romance across the spectrum of clean to erotica. I’m not exactly sure that if I were specifically looking for “clean romance with family values” I would be impressed by this. Several affairs are mentioned, at least one sister is an alcoholic, dad is emotionally abusive, etc. The sex scene where Dawson’s wife walks in on them is fairly graphically described. I guess it’s “clean” because the MC’s reunion “sex” was fade-to-black.
