“Promise me you’ll love me after this?” Those were the words I asked my first love on a high school date. “Always, Vi,” he told me before crushing his lips against mine.I gave him a part of me I can never get back that night. Even worse, I gave him my heart. That was four years ago. Back when I was young and naive. Back when I thought we’d always be together. He dumped me right after graduation … dumped me right after graduation and left me to join the military. He said I shouldn’t wait for him; it didn’t matter that I wanted to. I would have waited for him forever, but he threw me away and left me here in this small town.
Now he’s home and says he wants me back. Second chances don’t work in love. No matter how much I wish I could erase what’s happened since he’s been gone… no matter how much I think of falling back into his arms…

This is a story of first loves, and the heart ache of being left behind. We meet Violet, and Hunter who fall in love after knowing each other their whole lives. Right after High School Hunter leaves, and doesn’t want Violet to wait for him.
Fast Forward four years later. Hunter is back, and he realizes that the biggest mistake of his life is breaking up with Violet. Hunter has decided to fight for Violet, but is she willing to take the chance after he left her heart in pieces? Nothing is easy when everyone knows you in a small town, and has an opinion about your life.
This book tears at the heart strings, but I felt it was a bit rushed. The author could have gone a little deeper with developing the characters a bit more. I didn’t feel the connection to the H and h as I wanted too.
After a really long time did I enjoy a romance book that wasn’t dark. Like I swear dark romance has ruined contemporary romance for me. Like the guy HAS to be an asshole first for me to like him and then be really nice for me to fall in love with him.
Anyway back to the review, so Violet got her heart broken by Hunter after their high school graduation, he broke up with her and went to the military, leaving Violet to face the criticism of everyone in their small town.
Fast forward 4 years, I believe Hunter is back and one look at Violet makes him realize he still loves her and wants her back.
Now both Violet and Hunter have faced through their own trauma and are trying to move on. Hunter wants Violet because she is the only thing that makes sense to him.
Violet wants Hunter to stay AWAY from her because he is the reason she was the talk of the town in the past.
This was a refreshing book for a change as the guy reluctantly was chasing after the girl. No other woman drama whatsoever & Violet was trying her best to actually stay away from him.
No matter how much Violet pushed Hunter, not even once did he give up or try to move on with someone else. He would give her some time and then would go back to trying his luck with her.
This was a sweet second chance romance. This was a quick read if you are looking for a good story but don’t have a lot of time. It has everything, a couple with amazing chemistry, swoon worthy hero that’s trying to win his woman back, some feels and a bit of drama.
I liked that Violet didn’t take Hunter back right away. She showed a backbone and although she still loved him she waited until she was ready to let him back in.
That was the sweetest book I ever read. I never really like second chance love stories but this one was definitely well worth reading. Willow Winters teams up with Vivian Wood for a big win!
Broken promises
Violet lives in her small home town and works as their local baker. When her high school sweetheart returns to town and bumps into her, she hightails it out of there
Hunter loves Vi and he always has. He regrets how he left when he joined the military and broke Vi’s heart in the process
A good story with a few emotional elements
Awww I loved this book. It was a sweeter kind of book with some drama. I love a good veteran romance and I was happy to read this one.
Hunter gets his second chance with Violet after fulfilling his military commitments. It is not just their second chance at love but in life and occupation as neither of them have found their way just yet. I found it to be a quick and easy read. A little steamy, a little sweet, a little sad, totally emotional and absolutely enjoyable.
If you love sweet second chance romances you will definitely enjoy this book. I enjoyed Hunter and Violet’s story. The history and how they reconnect. A good read.
