“Dark, sexy, and intense, Prisoner is an emotional ride that does not let go until the end. I loved it!” ~ USA Today bestselling author Kristen CallihanHe seethes with raw power the first time I see him–pure menace and rippling muscles in shackles. He’s dangerous. He’s wild. He’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.So I hide behind my prim glasses and my book like I always do, because I have … like I always do, because I have secrets too. Then he shows up in the prison writing class I have to teach, and he blows me away with his honesty. He tells me secrets in his stories, and it’s getting harder to hide mine. I shiver when he gets too close, with only the cuffs and the bars and the guards holding him back. At night I can’t stop thinking about him in his cell.
But that’s the thing about an animal in a cage–you never know when he’ll bite. He might use you to escape. He might even pull you into a forest and hold a hand over your mouth so you can’t call for the cops. He might make you come so hard, you can’t think.
And you might crave him more than your next breath.
“Sexy, dark, and thrilling. I loved every second of it!” ~ New York Times bestselling author Katie Reus

Holy Moly Quacamole! Although I’ve read Skye Warren before, Annika Martin is new to me. What a combustible combination they are, in this truly captivating story. Not, I might add, for the faint hearted. This story is violent, with some scenes bordering on distressing, but heck, if it’s not one of my favourite reads in a long time. Long story short. Grayson breaks out of prison with the help of his student teacher, Abigail (although it is without her knowledge). He then decides to keep her against her will, and does, I have to say, take a few liberties. This is not a moonlight and roses read, but oh my, did I fall in love with Grayson and his alpha take charge animalistic ways. Even though Abigail is his captive, she’s no pushover, and she certainly keeps Grayson on his toes. A hauntingly beautiful story, so much emotion, all coming to life perfectly on audio thanks to both Jacob Morgan and Lauren Sweet. Now on to book 2, Hostage, which I’m pleased to say has the same narrators. I just can’t wait.

So many thoughts about this. At first was was interested then I was shocked then I moved to disgust and arrived back at interested. This a a dark book on the after
Effects of a horrible crime. I loved the characters and can honestly say the story was darkly amazing. Not really what i am used to reading but WOW. These characters are deep and have multi levels. I was always trying to “read into” what Grayson was saying. Trying to figure him out. Was he going to be nice or not nice? I was saddened by this story as well. A young life snuffed out never to be the same again. I enjoyed the comments about seeing the young boy in the eyes. Very insightful. The bond all these boys have I’m not sure if it can ever be broken.
Grayson has been scarred emotionally from a tragic past. You can really see how the damage affects a young persons future life. He is scary, mean, rough and sometimes tender. These guys live on a different level than I live. When Grayson’s thought of “shared pain makes only friends he’s ever had” so he wants that with Abby. That was the first time I thought he is broken. One minute I am on board with him and the next I am thinking OMG did he just do that? What is he thinking? I think he is only doing what comes naturally to him and what he has had done to survive.
The friends he has…HOLy SmOKes! They are….the only word I can think of is Scary..ok maybe Loyal would be another. Let’s also add interesting and smart. We know now what shaped their pasts but can they have a future? I see Stones story next and I have to say he is one Scary ( insert swear word here) Guy! I can’t imagine he is ready for any kind of girl or relationship.
Loved this dark romance that was exactly what I wanted and needed.
Abigail’s assignment is to teach a memoir writing class at The Kingman Correctional Institute. While nervous, afraid and left waiting, she sees a large, scarred inmate and is drawn to his dark allure. Even as she fights against any attraction to him, he is placed in her class and she is forced to work closely with him. But when he takes control of the situation she finds herself his hostage and along the way everything she felt is scrambled until she’s living a life she thought she had escaped.
Grayson is definitely an anti-hero, with deep secrets and wrapped in a darkness that he doesn’t bother to hide. His actions often skirted the edges of what I am comfortable with but the more I got to know him, the more I came to love him. There is no softness in him but he has a hunger for Abby that has him questioning himself repeatedly. His need to claim her, protect and take care of her supersedes everything else in his life.
This isn’t a dark, dark romance, but there is enough to give it a grittiness I was looking for. Grayson kept me on the edge of my seat for a good portion of the book, even as his thoughts allowed me to know what he was feeling. Thank god for that or I would have never accepted him.
With plenty of action and drama, I never wanted to stop reading. And the chemistry between Abby and Grayson was so intense I felt like a voyeur at times. While this isn’t high emotional angst, it isn’t low either. This couple have a lot going on, not only between them, but around them as well. Grayson’s “brothers” play a large role towards the end and while I have already read Stone’s story and loved it, I want more from them all.
Great characters. Dangerous situations. Wonderful emotions. Anger, fear, sadness, betrayal and passion. It was very well written. I enjoyed Grayson and Abby’s story.
I went into this book completely blind, so I’m not going to give too much away in this review. All I’m going to say about it is that this is one of my all-time favorite reads ever. So good! Prepare yourself for every emotion!
This book works because the characters and plot are believable and motives are understandable. It makes one realizes that true evil exist.
“My pulse kicks up. How would it feel to push her? To undo her? To break her fucking glasses? Because I got the sense she might like her glasses broken.”
Prisoner was such a good book. The writing sucked me in from the start and the journey of Grayson and Abby, was one weaved with danger, sex, darkness, and love. Its definitely on the darker side, though I didn’t find the entire book completely dark.
Grayson was the perfect antihero, and never pretended to ever be a good guy. That’s my most favorite part of antiheroes…they own their assholeness with zero shame. He was perfect, and my heart broke for him and his story.
I loved Abby! Though we the reader knew who was 100% in charge (looking at your Grayson) she never once came off as a weak female or pushover. She wanted what was delt, and she took no shit. She fought for her life and didn’t cower-down once. I loved that about her.
This book had me on the edge of my seat THE WHOLE time I was reading. Once I saw that the ending was near I honestly had no idea where or how it would end.
I’m normally skeptical when reading a co written book. I feel like you can always tell the difference between the two writers, but god, Skye and Annika are a match made in heaven. I couldn’t tell where one author stopped and the other started. It’s actually almost hard to believe that two people wrote this story that’s how in synch their writing was.
Prisoner was a great book to start the new year!

~~5 SPINE-TINGLING STARS! ~~
“Some people have a relationship that’s sunshine and roses. Ours is darkness and vengeance.”
PRISONER by Annika Martin and Skye Warren was a PURE ADRENALINE RUSH of edge of your seat excitement, thrilling twists and turns, and scorching hot passion that left me breathless!
THE STORY:
I have always been a sucker for a dark and gritty prison break tales, and OMGEEE did this one deliver! From the moment hardened convict Grayson locked eyes with the prim and proper Ms. Winslow, his unwitting prey inside the walls of the Kingman Correctional Facility, he knew she was his ticket to freedom.
Abby was at the prison under duress to teach a memoir writing class for inmates and there was something about the big and predatory inmate #85359 that filled her with trepidation and a shiver of magnetic awareness that cautioned her that he was about to implode her entire world!
That prophecy comes true in the most terrifying way possible. On the day of the big escape, in a horrible twist of fate, things go horribly awry and Abby gets caught in the crossfire, forcing Grayson to take her–at gunpoint!–as his captive. As the book progresses, the lines between love and hate, vengeance and atonement, become TERRIBLY BLURRED and it’s anyone’s guess whether these two fiery lovers will escape the ordeal with the souls unscathed…and their lives intact!
MY THOUGHTS:
Squeeeeeee! This nail biting, pulse pounding, dark thriller knocked my socks off!
Gah! Grayson, “beautiful in his woundedness, like an avenging angel, taking justice for lost innocence,” slayed my heart! The atrocities that this tortured soul had to endure in his harrowing childhood was more than anyone should bear in a lifetime, but as Grayson and his blood brothers set out on a bloody rampage to right past wrongs, he finds unexpected hope and light in the arms of his bewitching hostage. A woman whose past was also tainted by unfathomable darkness!
I love how, as the story unfolds, this PRIMALLY SEXY anti-hero finds a new purpose in life other than cold-blooded retribution as he discovers a kindred spirit in the feisty captive he has claimed as his own and vows to protect till his last dying breath! And, in turn, I found it incredibly profound how this dangerous fugitive who’d taken this emotionally and sexually repressed young woman against her will not only inspired Abby to finally stop hiding but also liberated her from an emotional prison of her own making.
The chemistry between this combustible duo was VOLATILE, ANIMALISTIC, and HEARTBREAKINGLY TENDER. Together, these two tempestuous lovers are pure sin and seduction…and perhaps the answer to each other’s unspoken prayers!
“I don’t deserve her love, but I have it anyway. I don’t deserve her at all, but she’s mine. Beautiful, smart. And so f**king strong.”
There are a plethora of SPINE-TINGLING, EXPLOSIVELY EMOTIONAL, RED-HOT moments throughout, and I was feverishly flipping the pages from start to finish, bracing for whatever mayhem was around the bend! And not only was the romance and suspense utterly riveting, but the unbreakable bond between the Bradford Hotel Gang, who’d been to hell and back together, was incredibly moving. And…EEK…the final reckoning between these menacing soldiers and the ghastly wolf in sheep’s clothing who destroyed their lives is NOT. TO. BE. MISSED!
BOTTOM LINE:
PRISONER was absolutely phenomenal! The insanely talented Skye Warren and Annika Martin’s solo books are remarkable, but with this stunning collaboration, they proved that they are a TRUE FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH! It was hard to bid adieu to these memorable characters, but I look forward to diving into the thrilling spinoff, HOSTAGE, featuring Grayson’s badass brother in arms, Stone!
This book is in my all-time Top 10 Reads. One scene involving eye-glasses is still with me. The writing is haunting and pulls you in from the start. Amazing Read.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick, easy read, but it had a story that was very controversial. I like feeling morally twisted up inside & “Prisoner” delivers. Don’t read if you’re triggered by rape or kidnapping.
I LOVED this amazing, original story and characters! This book is extremely well written and I am hooked!! I am a big fan of Warren and can’t wait to read Hostage!!
a little too nasty for me, very vulgar.
good premise for a book though.
strange book.
not for me.
Dark and intense. Steamy and bold. Great read!
This book goes back in forth in time so often l got whiplash.
It was very unclear.
Messy.
A dark two book series about vengeance against those who were responsible for kidnapping and abusing 7 young boys who they held captive for 6 years doing unspeakable things to them. The two stories are about the youngest and the oldest of the 7.
Prisoner is about the youngest.. Grayson Kane is currently serving time for a murder he was framed for. He’s been forbidden to have any visitors or to have any contact with anyone on the outside. He needs to find a way to contact his “crew” and when he finds out there is a college student teaching a class for a project that will be published in a magazine he see’s his chance.
Abigail Winslow didn’t want the project at the prison but her professor really wanted her to give it a chance. Her first interaction with Grayson scares her because his stare into her eyes calls to a darkness inside herself she hides from the world. Grayson also has a strong reaction to her but his plans only involve using her – not being attracted to her.
Then the craziness starts.. Prison break with Abby as hostage. Being on the run with a man she both fears and lust for. Grayson struggling with staying true to his “brothers” and their quest for vengeance or opening up his heart, which he thought long dead, and loving a good woman who is willing to stand beside him in all things.
I liked this book but nowhere near as much as I liked the second book.
very good really enjoyed it,it touched all my fantasies
Absolutely awesome! Leave you wanting for more….
