Some things were worth the punishment. Garin was one. When I opened my eyes, I was in a cell, my body covered in bruises. Not a jail.I’d been kidnapped and imprisoned.I wasn’t alone. I shared the cell with Garin Woods, the man I’d loved since I was a kid.The man I couldn’t be with because of the secret. A man who would kill me if he found out what that secret was.Someone wanted to torture me.… kill me if he found out what that secret was.
Someone wanted to torture me.
Torture us.
One of us deserved it.
It wasn’t Garin.more
I discovered Marni earlier this year with her book Animal and am not so patiently waiting Monster. So I wanted to read Prisoned b/c why not get another mind-fuck. I LOVED this. I feel I shouldn’t love a “dark” book, but I loved it almost as much as I loved Animal. I knew from that to not be set into my way of thinking the book will “turn”. Some things I had correct, some I didn’t and I loved every word.
Garin Woods, Kyle Lang and Billy Shape are childhood friends and they are close and happy hanging out on the dangerous streets of Atlantic City, hustling, stealing and panhandling. Alas, the innocence and happiness dies in The Heart when they’re 14. Life is cruel that way. They end up in very different avenues some voluntarily , some forced. Death, drugs and betrayal splits them apart.
It’s a fantastic, edgy read. But I wonder why was the part of Breath and Beard neccessary. She spilled everything to him anyway. Soul mates don’t torture soul mates that way. But there’s more to it than meets the eye.
I’m sensing connivance, manipulation and doubting truths that spill out of him so easily.
It’s a great, well written story !
Once I started reading this book I couldn’t put it down. This story is intense and twisted. It’s harsh and explicit. It’s dark and devious … and absolutely captivating. Prisoned is an incredibly well-written tale with an ending that will totally mess with your mind. Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.
My favorite book ever!
