Being kidnapped by aliens is one thing.Being kidnapped by aliens and sent to a prison planet is something infinitely worse. Here in Haven’s prison system, I’m stranded among strangers, enemies, and the most ruthless criminals in the galaxy. There’s no safety for a human woman here, especially not one branded as a murderer. I’m doomed to a fate worse than death. Then — he decides I should be his. … decides I should be his. His name’s Jutari. He’s seven feet tall, blue, and horned. He’s an assassin and one of the most dangerous prisoners here. He’s like no one I’ve ever met before…and he might be my only chance.
This story stands completely alone and is only marginally connected to the Ice Planet Barbarians series. You do not need to read those books in order to follow this one.

This is the first story I have read by Ruby Dixon and it won’t be the last!
Prison Plant Barbarian was such a sweet alien read. Jutari is a dominant alien who takes immediate possession of Chloe when he sets his sights on her. Their story unravels with many foes and aliens trying to keep them apart.
I recommend this story to anyone who loves alien reads!
4.5 stars. Some spoilers included so reader beware. Also contains some rather dastardly triggers so be prepared or don’t read it.
Why? Because Ruby Dixon’s Haven Prison creeped me out. I can’t even begin to imagine how numb someone had to be in order to endure the first thirty days at this sh*thole (Chloe’s quote, not mine). To be on a planet that is a prison in its own right, not just the facility itself. Females prostitute themselves for better treatment, more food, easier jobs. If you say “no” to any of the guards, you risk severe punishment. Now I’ve read books that were supposed to be like this, but they just wimp out whereas Dixon doesn’t. She isn’t as crass as some other really dark writers, but she’s good at what she does. So be careful if you could have any issues that might recreate a PTSD moment. You won’t like it.
Dixon paints her main characters with broad, brilliant strokes. Even her villains have more color to them than in other books. I appreciate this because I’m tired of the usual templated bad folk that are a dime a dozen. Jutari is a notorious assassin who has been incarcerated for almost one Haven year, and yet he’s made a name for himself — don’t annoy him! Chloe is the poor, unfortunate Human who was abducted to be an illegal sex slave for some ambassadors, only to accidentally kill the bonded three (who were bonded to six more), and once one of them expired, so did the rest. In an attempt to cover up the entire fiasco, Chloe was dumped on the terraforming planet to disappear and die (quickly). When Jutari sees Chloe, his indifferent self wakes up, and now he has something to live for. And the rest of the novella is devoted to a prison escape, one that no one believes could ever happen.
I appreciate the continued, intricate world-building of Ruby Dixon’s Mesakkah Universe consisting on more books I can currently count (but I think I have them all!). It was my first non-Ice World novel I read, and I’m glad I had a chance to read it that early. There is so much to this universe that there must be a better way to read them all in a particular order. I would read this first before the Corsairs series and definitely right after Pretty Human but before the rest of the Risdaverse.
I would definitely buy this book. Since I have had it, I must have read it at least six or seven times. I’m always guaranteed a good read, especially the much-appreciated epilogue where I get a chance to wind down from all the previous excitement!
Right here, Ruby Dixon proves she is one of the leading queens of romance. She stuffs a suspenseful, hopeless story in a novella that is more than its number of pages. For those of us who seek the hope that budding romance brings, Ruby does not disappoint. The story changes when our heroine’s life seems the bleakest. It is then she meets her mate, and together they forge a plan to escape their small hell-hole, prison planet. While evading capture, they get their steam on, and who-boy it’s steamy! So, Ruby can write the story, the romance and the steam. She has ALL the skills.
Jutari is a assassin who got caught and finds himself in prison, for now. Chloe a human who was kidnapped and sold off as a slave finds herself in the Haven prison system never to be released as she is contraband for any alien who has her. When Jutari sees Chloe, he knows she is his and only his but one of the guards has other ideas. Will Jutari be able to keep her safe?
I love Ruby’s imagination and the characters and the worlds she has created for her sci fi adventures.
Loved it!
Put in prison on an alien planet to cover up a crime. the h is terrified. And with good reason. For refusing a guards unwanted advances she’s thrown in with a cell full of cut throat killers and rapist.
But our H has known she was his mate from the first time he saw her. He must let the others in the cell know she is his by the only way possible. He must claim her, in front of them all!
He has an escape plan, he just has to keep her safe until their break comes.
Loved it! Short, intense and steamy! HEA.
I love this story. The characters were interesting and different. I wasn’t sure about it at first because of it taking place in a prison, but I’m glad I didn’t let that stop me.
Chloe was kidnapped by aliens and then sent to a prison planet called Haven. Haven’s prison system is co-ed so she is surrounded by the most ruthless criminals in the galaxy. The only offer of safety comes at a price that Chloe isn’t willing to pay. Then Jutari decides that she should be his. He’s seven feet tall, blue, and horned. He’s one of the most dangerous prisoners in Haven.
Finding love after being sentenced to prison has to be the weirdest thing to think of happening to someone. Jutari and Chloe are awesome together. I loved that he was so protective of her and cared for her. I loved their happy ever after. I recommend reading this book.
Another amazing read from Ruby Dixon. This Prison Planet was so cool. Chloe is just trying to survive and nothing is going right. Getting kidnapped by aliens then accidentally killing those aliens leads her to being imprisoned on this prion planet. Jutari is an assassin who was finally caught and sent to this prison. He has the means to escape but has never wanted to use them until he see Chloe. One look at her and he knows she is his. He will do whatever it takes to save Chloe and make her his mate. Chloe is scared but when she sees Jutari she isn’t as scared as she knows she should be. When they get together their connect is undeniable. Their relationship is crazy. The things they have to do to escape are unconventional but will have you glued to the pages. This book has angst and adventure and heart pounding moments. It also has that Ruby Dixon sexiness that we all crave. It was so good. I loved reading it.
I really enjoyed this little standalone story in the Ice Planet Barbarian universe. It was fun, hot, and romantic. Plus such an entertaining story!
Prison Planet Barbarian was a fun, quick read. I guess it is weird to say fun when you are talking about people or unmmm aliens stuck on a planet that is used only as a prison for the worst of the worst. Lol. But despite all that it was fun. It was sexy. I enjoyed how protective Jutari was. As soon as he saw Chloe there was an instant connection between them and he went after what he wanted.
If you are looking for a sexy, easy scifi read to pass your night – then snatch this up.
This was a cute addition/spin-off to this authors alien series. Chloe and Jutari were pretty great. While this book wasn’t super long I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. Well anything that wasn’t hinted at in the authors note. It had evil characters who you want to punch, suspense that kept you hooked, a romance that made my heart swoon and steam that heated up my kindle. I can’t wait to see what’s to come and different things the author hinted at in her end note. Both of them sound very appealing. 4 stars #2OCCJD
I love Ruby Dixon’s books! Her characters are great and she has a fantastic ability for building other worlds.
This book takes place in the same ‘verse as the Ice Planet Barbarians, and they are roughly related since Jutari and our IPB are the same basic species, but that’s mostly the only connection between the two.
Chloe was kidnapped from her college dorm. She woke up in a slaver’s ship and was sold to an alien ambassador. When she found out that the ambassador’s species did EVERY.THING in trios, she wasn’t going to go along, so she kicked the ambassador and ended up killing him and 8 others connected to him. For that, she was sent to Haven, a terrible prison, where she is just going to… disappear. Humans are illegal, after all, so no one can know that she killed the ambassador.
Jutari is in the max security wing of this particular prison. He’s one of the worst of the worst. He was a merc and a pirate and had killed some beings in prison. When the loathsome guard Noku drags Chloe through the max security wing to show her off, Jutari immediately knows that she’s his, and he’s going to do anything he can to make sure that she’s safe and with him. When the guard throws her into Jutari’s cell a few days later so that she can be punished, Jutari grabs her and protects her from everyone else in the cell.
This guy is a real change from our guys on Not-Hoth, mostly because he’s from a totally different culture, but even with that being said, he’s also like them in that he’s very protective of his mate, doesn’t want to let anyone touch her, and will go out of his way to make sure that she’s safe, protected, and loved. Poor Chloe, she goes through some terrible things to get where she does, but then she finds Jutari, and is better with it.
All in all, a great story, with a very Ruby Dixon feel.
Loved the new world in this one! Can’t wait for more!
