Susan Elia MacNeal introduced the remarkable Maggie Hope in her acclaimed debut, Mr. Churchill’s Secretary. Now Maggie returns to protect Britain’s beloved royals against an international plot—one that could change the course of history. As World War II sweeps the continent and England steels itself against German attack, Maggie Hope, former secretary to Prime Minister Winston Churchill, … Minister Winston Churchill, completes her training to become a spy for MI-5. Spirited, strong-willed, and possessing one of the sharpest minds in government for mathematics and code-breaking, she fully expects to be sent abroad to gather intelligence for the British front. Instead, to her great disappointment, she is dispatched to go undercover at Windsor Castle, where she will tutor the young Princess Elizabeth in math. Yet castle life quickly proves more dangerous—and deadly—than Maggie ever expected. The upstairs-downstairs world at Windsor is thrown into disarray by a shocking murder, which draws Maggie into a vast conspiracy that places the entire royal family in peril. And as she races to save England from a most disturbing fate, Maggie realizes that a quick wit is her best defense, and that the smallest clues can unravel the biggest secrets, even within her own family.

I enjoyed this book. The heroine is very likable and it’s easy to become engaged in the plot.
It was very interesting, and I learned facts that I didn’ t know.
Excellent book about WW2 lots of history
Absolutely brilliant writing!! The characters are superb. Magnificent plot, locations, action, intrigue. Simply the best book I have read in a very long time. I can’t wait to read more in this series. BRAVO!!!
I give this more of a 3.5 star because of the story concept….hard to fathom someone actually breaking into the castle and kidnapping Princess Elizabeth, with only Maggie Hope (secret agent in disguise) there to protect her? What really made me forgive this premise was the historical events it encompasses during WWII. Children sent to the country …
This is my second novel to read from Susan MacNeal’s imagination –the first was Mr. Churchill’s Secretary. Both were easy to read and highly entertaining. I love the WWII setting and the spy culture, and she does a credible turn through those difficult days. There are a lot of characters and sometimes I got a little confused by who was who but …
I really enjoy the Maggie Hope series and this book is no exception. The idea of imagining the current Queen Elizabeth as a child was intriguing. The characters are believable and I really like the history intertwined with the fiction. Ver entertaining.
Maggie Hope gets her first assignment for British secret service – go to Windsor Castle and act as Princess Elizabeth’s tutor all while looking for any evidence that there is a plot on her life. Maggie has hardly arrived when someone is murdered. Was the princess the target? Once again, this was a fun World War II spy novel, and I enjoyed spending …
I have enjoyed all of the books in the series. I highly recommend them.

This was the first Maggie Hope mystery that I had read. It is actually the second in the series. It was very well written. I loved the strong female protagonist; actually all the characters were warm and realistic. I have gone back and am now reading the first book in the series. If you like historical fiction and mysteries you’ll really enjoy this book.
Princess Elizabeth’s Spy is a book in one of my favorite WW2 era series. The main character is Maggie Hope – a young woman living in England during the war. She is an engaging character and all the books are action packed.
This is the second book in this series I have read. Love the character because she is real. A smart, capable, heroine who could be any of us!
What an original series! Great plot with lots of twists.
I enjoyed it and it’s imaginative replaying of history.
