It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single woman in possession of a law degree, significant student debt, and a crippling fear of blind dates must be in want of a husband.False.For Liza Bennett, finding a husband is the last thing on her mind. At risk of being kicked out of every book group I’ve ever joined, I’m going to admit something here. I never liked Pride and Prejudice. Ever. That said, this modern-day retelling cracked me up! Liza and Will have a horrid start, which then becomes a slow burn from not-quite-enemies to almost-friends to finding love. Along the way, we have bird drama (Colin was my favorite person ever because of those darn birds), mean girl drama, dirty rotten scoundrel drama, and a hot mess of a law firm to straighten out.
This made for a quick, entertaining read that had me angry and amused by turns throughout the story. Even if you’re not a P&P fan, you’ll find yourself laughing at the predicaments that pop up along the journey from Will and Liza’s dislike for each other (or hers for him, really) to love on both parts.
I love Jane Austen fan fiction! This present day take on Pride & Prejudice is more fun than Bridget Jones Diary! There are some interesting, quirky characters, and I thoroughly enjoyed this hilarious RomCom, especially the bird poop incident 🙂 Well done, Ms, Dawn!!
This was a great read I enjoyed the well developed and engaging characters and the storyline flowed smoothly from the beginning to the end.

Cute retelling story. This book will have you laughing and smiling. The characters are great and the story flows nicely. You won’t be able to put this one down.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that this is a wonderful, modern day re-telling of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
Set in the US, Liza Bennett and Will Darcy are lawyers. Liza is working to save her fathers law firm, Bennett & Collins. Will Darcy comes into her life in the usual way, as a friend of Charlie Bingham.
All of the parallels between the original story and this book are there: the awkward Mr (Colin) Collins, Liza’s best friend Cher Lucas and even the great Catherine DeBourgh turns up as a federal judge.
Knowing how the story will play out doesn’t affect your enjoyment of it. It’s witty, funny and the final scene where Will declares his love for Liza is wonderful. A great read.
This is a modern day retelling of Pride and Prejudice. I have never read Pride and Prejudice so this story was all new to me and I loved it! A sweet romance story coupled with the modern issues that plague our society today, bullying, gossip and the dangers in the clubs that everyone needs to know about.
Three sisters, Jane the oldest an actress, Liza a law school graduate who is studying for the bar exam and works at her dad’s law offices, Lily the baby of the family is going into her last year of high school, and a mom that will stop at nothing to get them married to a wealthy man. I wanted to shout at that mother to just stay out of it! She was pushing her children too much and I could see that she would ruin everything for her one daughter in love.
A clueless father was more of a background character and although he clued in to the manipulation of his wife at the end and the level headed ability of his daughter Liza. It frustrated me that Liza seemed to be invisible to her dad regarding her work at the law firm.
Liza and Will had real chemistry from the beginning, taking the story from hate to friendship Liza didn’t seem able to know who to trust or who was telling the truth. This story had many unpleasant side notes, bullying not only by piers but by those in authority and how Liza handled those situations was epic. I wish I had the ability to stand up for myself like this character did. Gossip was another side venue which can ruin not only relationships but can cause a person to lose their jobs or their standing in a community; gossip is also another form of bullying.
I enjoyed reading this book one cozy afternoon, in front of a fire sipping tea. Hmm, hmm good!
So many things going on in the story and it is a lovely read.
Thank you Danica Dawn and Booksprout for the free copy of this book in exchange to for my honest review
Pride & Prejudice is my favorite movie (because I have yet to read the book), so I can be a bit picky with retellings. Danica Dawn did not disappoint and did an amazing job of modernizing it. I loved it. I loved how strong-minded Liza was and Darcy was still sexy. It worked perfectly and didn’t mess with the original story too much since she follows the same guideline and just switched it to modern times.
This was my first read by this author, but I’ll be keeping her on my watchlist.
This modern take on a beloved classic is full of clever wit, hilarious banter, and sass. I cannot tell you how many times I chuckled, snorted, and chortled.
It is so well written, even those of you who DARE to call the original P&P “boring” will be utterly delighted and enthralled by this re-telling. The flow is easy and page-turning, the characters are well-rounded, and the dialogue is snappy.
You’ve been warned- I will talk about/recommend this book to anyone who’ll listen!
What a cute redo of the classic. Since the original is my favorite book I usually don’t care for retellings but I enjoyed this fun and quirky retelling with all the wonderful characters in an interesting but fun light. Great job.
