He’s impossible. She’s determined. Together, they are a tragedy waiting to happen.
Lizzie Bennet’s new boss—the impossible William Darcy—is egotistical, rude, and picky. So when he challenges her to acquire the patronage of the mysterious Bilson for their joint venture, she knows better than to take accept. Yet she does, telling herself she’s only done so just to prove she can.
The only good … herself she’s only done so just to prove she can.
The only good thing about Darcy is his friend, George Bingley, and his obvious interest in Lizzie’s older sister and HR specialist, Jane. Unfortunately, the more time Jane and Bingley spend together, the more time Lizzie is forced to spend with Darcy.
When Bingley suddenly drops Jane with no warning, Lizzie thinks he’s being a typical male…until she learns the truth: Darcy is to blame. Now she wants absolutely nothing to do with him. But when Darcy helps her family out of a scandal, Lizzie must decide if her pride is worth her heart.

I enjoyed this story twist
This book was a twist on a story I love and enjoyed it a lot. I would recommend to others as it’s light and easy to read.
I always love to read Pride and Prejudice variations, and so I have to admit, the title is what first attracted me to this book. I enjoyed the modern twist to a beloved, classic tale, and I was glad to see the gist of the story remained true to the original, even keeping Jane and Lydia’s storylines in place. It’s a clean and sweet story which I appreciated, but even so, you could still sense the chemistry between Lizzie and Darcy. Just the right amount of tension to keep things fun!
Overall, great characters and great story!

Dissatisfying Modern Billionaire P&P Fanfiction
I am a massive fan of Jane Austen fanfiction, though I typically read the more historically based ones than the contemporary ones. I often feel that modern variations work too hard at trying to make the characters both true to the original and modern at the same time. I feel like this book had that flaw amongst others. While Darcy seemed to be like himself, the Elizabeth Bennet character—who is the viewpoint character—came across as too modern and had aspects that I just would not ascribe to Elizabeth Bennet, like the ways that she didn’t follow certain company protocols or what her home was like. While I don’t see Lizzie as being as fastidious as Darcy, even in the original, she did follow most societal rules to the letter and even tried to keep her younger sisters in line.
There were numerous issues with grammar, punctuation, and usage. While I did get an ARC from a book review site, I did check the published book at Amazon and found it that these problems were still in the book. There were multiple run-on sentences, wrong spacing (like a space before a comma), and other irregularities, enough to be distracting from the book. Also, the author actually got the name of one of her characters wrong in the book description! I was wondering why she had renamed Charles Bingley to George Bingley, but no, Bingley’s name is Charles… and yes, there is a George. I also didn’t think the cover was right. While clearly this novel is in the very popular contemporary billionaire romance sub-genre—and this cover looks like any one of a hundred of those—the man on the cover just does not say “Darcy” to me. Not at all. I would imagine even a modern-day Darcy would be clean shaven and be a bit more buttoned-up, literally and figuratively. He doesn’t look like my concept of an English billionaire, let alone Darcy. In the end, this book felt dissatisfying on too many levels.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
I honestly think this may be a biased review because I love the original Pride and Prejudice. I did enjoy this authors modern day version of such a great classic. Although I know exactly how the original goes, I was still somewhat worried that things wouldn’t work out, silly me.
The overall writing was okay, there were some grammatical errors here and there but nothing big enough to distract you from the story.
I overall enjoyed the feel of reading a modern Pride and Prejudice, I did like that the author highlighted Darcy and Elizabeth’s relationship, but also kept Jane and Lydia’s relationships in the plot.
Would I read this book again, yes, yes I dare say I would.

Sweet modern version of Pride and Prejudice; the mannerisms of the characters was very similar to the original. Not much mentioned about the family in the early chapters but they did come in later on but not as often. Story seemed a bit disjointed at times not flowing but it was a nice read.
This was a sweet romance story with a lot of ups and downs. It was a story about two people from different classes trying to find there to their true feeling.

Right up front; 19th century British Fiction was my major emphasis in college and Pride and Prejudice is one of my all time favorites!! Witty dialogue with a modern plot twist is sure to attract readers. And, my favorite, HEA. I received an arc copy to review.
This was an interesting telling of the “Pride and Prejudice” plot. Followed the theme pretty well. Only downside was that knowing the basic plot I could guess what was coming next. Good beach read.

A modern day twist on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. The author has stayed close to the original story. If you like the original or Jane Austen, you’ll like this story. The characters are well developed and the story line is well written and enjoyable. This is the first work I’ve read by this author and I would have preferred reading their original work rather than something similar to someone’s past work, hence the 4 stars. We’ll see what future books from this author bring.

The book was taking Pride and Prejudice to a modern day setting. I am not sure that the plots work as well as they do in the original context. The author does stay true to the original plot line.

3 1/2 Stars
This somewhat modern retelling of the popular Jane Austen favorite stuck very close to the original. All the names were the same with the storyline mimicking the popular movies out there almost verbatim even though this was supposed to be set in current times.
Nothing really original in this retelling which was fine with me, although a bit lackluster especially with Lizzie and Darcy.
In the original, Darcy’s brooding character was sexy and endearing. In this version, he came across as kind of blah, with Lizzie lacking her witty smart comebacks and strength of character.
Zero heat between this couple which I kind of missed.

If you’re a fan of Jana Austin or the like you’ll enjoy this book. It is a very clean very methodical story. Personally I felt the story moved at a snail’s pace and the characters only seemed to love each other for very superficial reasons. It just wasn’t my type of book. It wasn’t poorly written by any means but I just found it to be too traditional and slow.

Elizabeth is an Architect and the company she works for has just been sold. Darcy is the one who bought it and Elizabeth is worried that she may be let go since she has been there the least amount of time. When Elizabeth and Darcy meet for the first time, things do not go will. Each time they are in the same room together, they rub each other the wrong way. When Elizabeth’s sister, Jane has just started seeing Charles, Darcy sends him back to England. Elizabeth finds out what he did and is not happy about it. She is at the home of her best friend’s boyfriend when Darcy comes to see her, he tells her in a roundabout way that he loves her but he shouldn’t. Elizabeth tells him where he can go. Darcy gets upset over this but leaves. Elizabeth is not happy about being at her parent’s home and when her Aunt and Uncle say they are going on a celebrity home tour and asked if anyone wanted to go with them, she said she would. One of the homes they went too was Darcy’s. When she sees him there, they start to talk but then she tells him she must get back to her Aunt and Uncle. She gets back to her Aunt and Uncle and finds out that Darcy has invited her Uncle to go fishing with him the next day so they are staying another day. While there Elizabeth gets a call from her sister, Jane telling her that her younger sister, Lydia has run away with her boyfriend. Elizabeth finds out that the boyfriend is George, a man she met before. She goes back to her Aunt, Uncle, and Darcy and tells them what is going on and that she is needed back home. A few days after she gets home, Lydia comes home with George and everyone finds out that they are planning to go to England to live. She also finds out that Darcy is the one who is buying the house and putting it in Lydia’s name. At that moment, everything Elizabeth feels for Darcy changes.
Can Elizabeth forgive Darcy for everything he has said and done to her and give him a second chance?
Will Darcy get Elizabeth to listen to him and get a chance with her?
This was a great read and I would recommend this book to anyone.

Blatant plagiarism!!! What an appalling attempt at recreating Pride and Prejudice in 21st century Seattle USA! Even the names remained practically the same, like Elizabeth Bennet, her sister Jane, Lizzie’s friend Charlotte who consents to marriage to Matt Collins, the preacher, who enjoys the financial help from his patron, Catherine de Bourgh, who is Mrs. Bilson in this book, Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, the Bennet family with 5 daughters, one of whom, Lydia elopes with Darcy’s scoundrel, one-time friend, George Wickham. The book is full of contextual errors, where one person is mentioned in place of another. Sounds familiar? Careless editing, totally inappropriate tension points and dialogue to stay true to the storyline of Jane Austen’s literary masterpiece transplanted into our modern world. Darcy is totally awkward in his mannerism and Elizabeth’s character was portrayed as someone without social graces, insensitive and tactless. I can’t imagine how this book ever got published! Maybe loyalty rights no longer apply but common sense and respect for literature ought to have prevailed!! Thankfully it was free as an ARC, as I would have been very upset to have parted with money for this. I have never-before given less than 3 stars for a book I disliked, but this novel jumped on the back of Jane Austen’s historical, and social masterful description of life in Regency England and just hijacked it. I had to take exception to that as I felt that the reader’s intellect and feelings were utterly and completely disregarded and disrespected. Writing a book is a difficult process and substituting someone else’s idea cannot replace originality. The author has the ability to write, so next time she might try and have the confidence to go through the whole creative course.

Highly enjoyable romance based on the classic “Pride and Prejudice”. I have read many romance books based on this theme, and I found this story about Lizzie and Darcy set in modern times enjoyable to read. There was just the right touch of the modern world, humor and romance in this story to keep me interested and of course the classic tug of war between the couple that’s in the classic. I volunteer to read and review this ARC via Booksprout.
This is the first book I have read by Laurie Gene. When Elizabeth (Lizzie) Bennet new boss (William Darcy) takes over the company she is working for she doesn’t know what to think of him. Does she like him or not? Will she keep her job? Well developed characters and easy reading. Looking forward to more from Laurie Gene!

This was a enjoyable read. From the first page until the last I loved every page. The storyline is gripping and flowed smoothly from page to page, the main characters are well developed and likable, and I really like all the secondary characters they added a lot of deminsion to the story. A great story and one I highly recommend.
