All I wanted was a tattoo. What I got was a broody, enigmatic demigod with an electrifying touch and a mysterious past. We were night and day in every way possible, not an ounce of anything in common, and yet, I wanted him in the worst way. It didn’t matter that he was emotionally unavailable or that he was exactly the kind of man who would give my father a coronary should I dare to bring him … should I dare to bring him home. It didn’t matter that his heart was wrapped in barbed wire or that he made me promise never to fall for him.
None of it mattered because he was the most perfectly imperfect, beautifully tortured soul I’d ever known, and I was besotted, addicted to all the thrilling and wondrous ways he made me feel when we were together.
They say a single moment can change the entire trajectory of your life. But looking back, I never could have imagined all the ways my world would change the moment it collided with his.

Madden and Brighton’s story was such a beautiful yet emotional story! This was definitely a roller-coaster ball of emotions for me. The author really did an awesome job writing this story because you could feel every emotion these two characters were feeling and going through and at the end, every sad, happy, painful, lonely moment led them both, together to their beautiful happily ever after <3 <3

Oh my wow! So many feelings!
I’ve never had a book give me so many actual physical feelings. So many times in each chapter I got a hollow pang in my gut and then there were twinges and skipped beats in my heart. At one point I broke out in goosebumps.
There’s something romantic, but not, about a closed off man convincing himself that he’s not falling for a girl.
Everything comes together, falls apart, & hopefully comes back together again.
Is it really a small world after all or is it fate and karma playing their wicked tricks on these two?
This is such a good read. It’s a MUST read!
This novel has passion, joy, drama, twists & turns…everything!!
I don’t even know how to express how much I loved this book!!! Brighton is determined to make her own was despite her over-protective parents. Madden is convinced he has never been loved or loved anyone. Little did they realize that the day Brighton comes to his shop to be tattooed in her first move towards being her own person, that it would lead to so much more!! All the feels!! I loved Brighton’s journey to being independent. She is strong, beautiful inside & out, and so sweet. Madden is that strong, silent guy that is stubbornly alone, but he is so much more. And he’s HOT. Definitely will suck you in. I would have read this in one sitting if my body hadn’t decided it wanted sleep. I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
** spoiler alert ** She lives in a gilded cage, he cages his heart. Will she be able to break through his walls? Will they survive when everything comes to light?
I love how these opposites couldn’t help but be drawn together. I loved seeing her start to stand on her own and not allow her parents to push her into what she no longer wanted. I loved seeing him show he cared in little ways, despite him being unable to say it, it honestly made it even better when he was able to open up. Great read!
What an amazing book. I was left gobsmacked!
I have no idea how to start writing a review that will do justice to the fantastic book that I had just read. But what I did do first, is email Winter Renshaw with three words, “Holy. Effing. Sh!t!
Yep. I was gobsmacked. I never saw the twists coming, and I just sat and couldn’t believe how the plot could turn on it’s end like that, and oh how awesomely it was done. Ms Renshaw can be relied upon to give you a book that is not a passive easy-going read.
The Sleeping Beauty analogy perfectly described the childhood environment within which Brighton was raised. She was protected and provided for, yet it didn’t matter how gilded the cage, she was still confined. Even at the age of 22, everything was paid for, and her parents kept tabs on her all the time. Parental love, it turned out, depended on her obedience, and her breakout move was signified not with the prick of a spindle, but with the needles from a tattoo machine. She’s not so much about the art, but about the act of breaking free.
Madden is the talented enigma who owns Madd Ink. A clean-skin tattoo artist who has revealed to no one why he doesn’t have any. He is stunned by the uptown beauty who has shown up for an appointment. One who doesn’t belong on his side on town, let alone someone who would want a tattoo and let him choose the design.
Despite themselves, they’re drawn to each other. Both have secrets and flaws, and both have had a less than stellar upbringing. They are at the extremes of the spectrum, yet they come together as equals who both fight for the power between them. Brighton could be considered weak, but she’s had a lifetime of conditioning to overcome, and Madden, who hid the beautiful man inside, was there to support her every step of the way. Until she was too strong to stay for what little he would give.
Winter Renshaw has written a beautiful book about a young lady finally having the courage to live and participate in life, and the intensity of the written feelings of Brighton as she begins her journey were poignant, uplifting yet sad. Personally, I love the first kiss in a relationship, and her reaction to their first kiss is up there as one of my favourites ever!
Now, back to the twists. You can guarantee there is opposition to their relationship, complete with manipulations and lies, but I certainly didn’t pick up on any clues as to what the impetus could be that was behind the common threads that inextricably entwined their lives. Winter Renshaw does it again – another guaranteed great read. 5 stars.
I didn’t have high expectations for this book. Usually tattoo artist stories are great when I’m in the mood for some steamy smut. But this book was so much more than that. What a great story. I loved the characters. Great plot with lots of surprises. And steamy sex scenes.
I loved this story so much! At first you might think it is going to just be rich girl meets guy from wrong side of the tracks, and that’s it. Not so. Madden had a rough exterior that hid a lot of pain from a tragedy in his past that had him doubting that he would ever really love anyone. Brighton was being smothered and over protected because of a tragedy in her past. As they learn to know each other better we find out that all of the things they thought they knew were just a web of lies. Can these two break free of their tragic pasts and make a future with each other? This is a great read! Loved Madden, Brighton, and Dev. I did read this book for free and this is my honest review.
Love love loved it! Read the entire thing in one sitting.
There are so many things I loved about this story! First off, could not put it down…to the detriment of my sleep and my higher order functioning, I had to keep reading!
This story of Madden and Brighton was fantastic and felt so real! Brighton was truly a butterfly in a gilded cage. It was refreshing to see her come into her own. Her poise, honesty and generosity was beautiful both inside and out. I admired her ability to say what she wanted to say. Her truth would set her free.
Madden is such a broken soul. He has stories aplenty, but will not share. He is closed off and distant. But his history is heartbreaking and made me want to hug him and hug him hard.
This story has a twist that you won’t see coming. To me, those are the best ones! This story has some realism too, that I appreciated. I don’t want to spoil the story but let’s just say that there is a scene, a potentially steamy scene, that was honest and actually really original that really moved me!
This story is going to be in the running for my “Favorite Reads of 2019” and it’s not even the end of January! That’s how much I loved this story!
An emotional well written romance with self discovery as these two broken characters from different upbringing and backgrounds find love in each other. It was an interesting storyline that kept me engaged from the beginning with secrets, intrigue and love. I voluntarily reviewed this ARC.
Brighton has spent the last 12 years of her life under a sheltered microscope. After tragedy struck her family her mother became paranoid for her safety. On her 22nd birthday Brighton begins her first step in breaking free from their hold. She a tattoo by Madden, hidden so her parents wont see, but her first act of rebellion nonetheless. Madden is as closed of as they come. His dad has been for almost as many years as her was around. he doesn’t like to look back on his past an he doesn’t plan on letting anyone in. Until his path continues to cross with Brighton’s, and she feels that he is the perfect path to escaping her imprisoned life. what neither of them realizes is that they have more in common than they know.
This was a great read. As always Winter Renshaw brings a truly unique and surprising story. Always a few twist and turns to give you a little jolt. Absolutely loved it!
I loved this book.
A Review of Pricked by Winter Renshaw
Brighton and Madden – 5 Stars
I absolutely LOVED this book and the characters. Winter Renshaw has a way of writing characters that draw you in and make you feel like you are part of what is going on. This was definitely a rollercoaster of a read, with twists and turns you never expect. Just when you think you have figured out what is going on, you find out you are wrong and it goes in a totally different direction. You will want to pick this one up as soon as you can, so you don’t miss out.

I am voluntarily reviewing an Advance Reader Copy of this book I received from Hidden Gems.
You ave to give this book a try!! I’ll admit, not until I got about half way through did my review change from 4 stars to 5, but this book was one of the best books by Winter Renshaw that I’ve read. Madden and Brighton are well written, interesting, and such compelling characters, he’s closed off and damaged, she’s trying to escape her parents hold. The book has so many twists and turns, surprises and drama……I loved it. Great build, well paced….Great Read!!!
I spent the last few hours glued to my sofa, utterly engrossed in Brighton and Madden’s emotional, steamy, deep and layered love story. Winter Renshaw has this wonderful ability to make you feel a part of the story, to feel what the characters are feeling. Time after time she has blown me away with her stories and she just did it again. I loved these characters and hate to say goodbye to them. They take a little piece of my heart with them.
I liked it. It took a bit to get into in the beginning but I enjoyed how Madden & Brighton who were complete opposites fit so well together. I wish Madden would have fought harder for Brighton in the beginning once he found out about a past event that affected both of them instead of pushing her away but I’m glad finally came to his senses.
