My best friend made damn sure I knew the rules. His sister was strictly off limits.UNTIL NOW.KALIGrowing up it was always the three of us. Me, my twin brother, Kyle, and our best friend, Aiden. We were inseparable all the way through high school.Did I picture myself with Aiden from the first moment I laid eyes on him back when we were eight? Hell. Yes. I fell in love with his soul that day. But … Hell. Yes. I fell in love with his soul that day. But he was always more Kyle’s friend than mine. And Kyle made damn sure we both know the rules.
I was strictly off limits. Forever.
But now Kyle is gone. Dead from a freak accident. And Aiden is still here. Looking hot as hell in his grown-up body. Looking sexy AF with those tattoos all over his muscular chest. Sad and in need of comfort. Just like me.
AIDEN
Every time Kyle caught me lusting after his twin sister, Kali, he reminded me of the rule. “You were my friend first.”
If you want to get technical about it, I was Kali’s friend first, not Kyle’s. But that’s not how he saw it. One rule. That’s all we had between us. Just one. Stay away from my sister.
All these years I’ve honored that. I never broke his trust. Until now. Because he’s dead. He left us. And being with Kali is the only thing that makes the pain go away.
I want Kali. I want to marry her, and have kids with her, and keep her in my bed forever.
But I want Kyle’s blessing too. And that’s something I’ll never get.
Pretty Thing is new sexy, brother’s-best-friend romance filled with tender moments, second chances, and steamy love scenes that will make you sigh with happiness when you turn the last page!

Well, I must admit this was refreshingly different than the normal stories we get from JA Huss. Nothing dark here; just all bright and shiny love. Kyle, Kali, and Aiden were the three musketeers growing up. Aiden and Kali have always been in love with each other, but always stayed loyal to Kyle’s wishes. Now that Kyle is suddenly gone in a horrific accident, these two come face to face after not seeing each other in quite some time and the love they have always felt is still as strong as ever.
Aiden and Kali have tons of chemistry and the steaminess that Huss is known for is definitely not lacking. I loved that even though Kyle is gone, he’s still very much a part of the story and plays a part in helping these two come to terms with their feelings and start to heal. It will definitely hit you in the feels.

Oh WOW…. is there something Julie can’t write… NOPE ABSOLUTELY NOT!! She’s given us.. twists and turns, mind-blowing, suspenseful, keeping you on the edge of your seat and now she’s giving us a quick, sweet emotional read. You will be blown away with this raw, captivating read that will have you devouring page after page while putting tears in your eyes and a smile on your face. This was not at all what I expected from this book; needless to say, I absolutely LOVED this story and so will you!
You know the term ALL THE FEELS? Well, this book is a shining example of…ALL THE FEELS!! I smiled, I cried, I felt what the characters were going through every step of the way. I can’t ask for more from an author than what JA Huss gave me with Pretty Thing.
This book is near perfection with all the heart and emotion it delivers on…and it wouldn’t be a Huss story without some mindblowing passion! 5 perfect stars for the hot and sexy scenes, the wonderful characters, the unique spin on a brother’s best friend story and all the heart wrenching emotion my soul could handle.
This was an unexpectedly, sweet read from J.A. Huss. I’m used to the mind twists that this author throws in her stories. It looks like she wanted to do a new thing with this book and I enjoyed it very much.
Pretty Thing is more of a contemporary love story with the best friend’s sister trope. It’s a very sweet and also has a sad element to it. It will get you right in the feels when you uncover a little something from Kali’s brother. And that ending! Oh man, that had me crying like a baby. Be ready to have tissues ready.
This was an angsty contemporary romance that was oh-so sexy. I liked both of the main characters. Who I didn’t like was the dead twin brother. I could understand it at first, not wanting some boy to hit on his sister, but after so long as friends, it sounds like he wanted his friend for himself instead of sharing him with his sister. Yet he claimed to love her best of all? When he knew she was drifting away in the city, while the two friends were closer than ever. Yeah, makes no sense. And when he KNEW they were truly in love?
Still it was a great romance, if you ignore that part.
My best friend made damn sure I knew the rules. His sister was strictly off limits. UNTIL NOW. Well this was a very unexpected read from J.A Huss, very different from her other books and a very pleasant surprise. The story line was a sweet and a deeply emotional one that deals with, love, guilt, loss and the pain of losing a loved one while trying to save a loved one. The chemistry between the characters is so warm and sweet, and they are both absolutely lovable. This was an all over beautiful romance to read.
I listened to this book on Audible and I loved it! Emotional storyline, great characters and I loved the ending!
Pretty Thing (Naughty Things #1) is a beautiful story of love and loss that had me smiling one minute and an emotional mess the next. It’s also very sexy! I loved Aiden and Kali, they’re perfect for each other and by the end I loved Kyle too. The storyline is brilliant, as are the narrators, and that Easter egg… just wow!
This is the first time, I have ever had anything read to me by this author, and I hope it won’t be my last. The narrators are perfect, bravo to them. This starts with a heaviness, in both Kali, and Aiden’s lives. Unfortunately, Kyle, Kali’s twin, is killed in a Jeeping accident. You see Aiden technically meets Kali first, at eight-years-old, but Kyle walks up notices the vibe, and sticks out his hand greeting Aiden and telling him, “You’re my friend first.” Another words stay away from my sister.
This is a phrase he will hear repeated numerous times over the years because everyone knows the way the two, Kali and Aiden, felt about one another. Part of the time I would think he is kidding him but another part believes that he might of not wanted to be left out if his best friend is with his twin. Yet, the sad thing, in the end because she couldn’t be with Aiden she moved away as to not hurt, and ends up loose out on time with him and most of all so does he as you find out later.
But when the comfort each other in a more loving sexual way they both feel guilty and run. As they think about it they realize how long and how hard they have loved one another but missed out on so many years. The reading of Will starts a whole new ball of guilt to fester and open more wounds. See how the author takes you on this unique emotional roller coaster. So, so worth it.
Audible book so worth the trial to get.
Pretty thing was amazing. Its been a while since a sweet romance like this has literally had me in tears. In public. This was a very beautiful and incredibly sad book. JA Huss always seems to outdo herself and Pretty Thing was funny, heartfelt, sexy, and beautifully romantic.
I fell in love with Kali and Aiden instantly. Not to mention I’m a sucker for a best friends sister romance. The chemistry between Kali and Aiden was jumping off the pages. Even through their grief over the loss of Kali’s twin Kyle, these two find solace in their shared love of him and fond memories. I really felt their pain and the love that peaked through the cracks of their grief. It was clear they were completely in love with one another, but they both feel like being together is forbidden because Kyle would turn in his grave at the thought of his best friend getting with his sister.
I loved every moment Aiden and Kali spent together. They were so cute together. I loved how they shared old memories together and how happy they made one another. They heavy cloud of Kyle’s disapproval weighed down their hearts, but I loved each time they gave in to their hearts desire. It is clear they are both meant for each other. I really loved how casual they were with one another, familiar, the friendship, and the love. Kali supported Aiden through his struggles because the significance of what they did weighed on him the most.
This is the first book I’ve read where I loved a character who was not physically present. This book starts with Kyle’s funeral and throughout the story I fell so in love with him. I really wish I could have gotten to know him as a character, but the flashbacks and memories Kali and Aiden share made it clear the type of person Kyle was. He was so amazing and it makes me want to cry just thinking about him. I was really sad that he died and that I would never get to personally get to know him.
Lastly, I loved the Dead Notes. My heart broke and tears shed in abundance at the messages he left his family. Especially the one to Kali. I won’t go into too much detail about this, but it was the most amazing thing I have read in a book and it made this book that much sweeter. JA Huss is seriously brilliant for this concept.
Pretty Thing is amazing. The romance will melt your heart. While it was incredibly sad I couldn’t help smiling through so many moments in this book. Huss also delivers some pretty hot scenes as well. This may be my fave best friends sister book to date. It was done so perfectly. Pretty Thing is a must read.
A story of healing and love. Love for a brother and the love of a soulmate. The crushing loss of Kyle, Kali’s twin and Aiden’s childhood best friend, brings them together. Their story is of love denied. The present bring pain and sadness and an emptiness that only the other can fill, can heal. It’s sweet and sad. But with that healing comes the acceptance of the love of a lifetime and the unwitting approval of a brother.
While I don’t usually enjoy depressing books, I didn’t mind this one. I loved the characters and their loyalty to the deceased brother/friend. A unique and sad twist on the “best friend’s sister” trope.
Wow!
I don’t know where that came from but Wow! JA Huss swept me off my feet. She knocked my knees out from underneath me and pushed me in a fast flowing river at the same time. So instead of wobbling like a fawn to stand, I’m caught in the current that is Pretty Thing.
Dead Notes is all kinds of messed up and yet the sweetest thing ever. I’m both intrigued and horrified by it. I know that anyone who has lost someone close will feel the same way but it is such a vital part of this love story. As warped and amazing as Kyle was, I don’t think this story would have been the same without his weird investment.
Fall in love with your twin brother’s best friend, one crazy decision at a time. Or 26 years ago…Your choice, Pretty Thing!
Kyle, Kili, & Aiden meet at 8 years old and instantly all become friends. My favorite part of the book was reading about the forts in the woods that they would make out of sticks. The memories are very much treasured by Aiden & Kili. I was smiling when I read about Kyle’s approval and that he knew how they felt all along.
This is a sweet romance compare to some of Ms. Huss’ other books, which I love with all it’s twisty, angsty, dark storylines.
This is a friends to lovers romance that took too long for it to happen. Kali, Kyle and Aiden have been best friends since they were 5 years old. Aiden actually saw Kali first before he saw her twin brother Kyle however, Kyle called Kyle his friend first and being Kyle’s friend first, Aiden was told by Kyle that his sister was hands off. Aiden kept his promise to Kyle for over 30 years even though he was attracted to Kali as they grew up and older. With Kyle sudden death, both Aiden and Kali was thrown for a loop and after Kyle’s funeral the two of them decided to get drunk at Aiden’s place. Drinking lead to more and the next morning, they both felt bad but didn’t know how to deal. Kali takes off for the city and her job while Aiden try to go about his life. But the 2 of them couldn’t stay apart and decided to give a relationship a try once they admitted that they had fallen in love with each other for a long while now but didn’t act on it because of Kyle.
When everyone finds out that Kyle had purchase this app so that he could leave them messages for after his death, everyone has mixed feelings about when or if they wanted to listen to their own personal messages. Aiden is thrown for a loop when he thinks that Kyle would never approved of his relationship with Kali and is being held to his promise and he must decide how to deal with his feelings about it. Kali meanwhile finally listens to her brother’s messages to her and realize that her brother knew her and Aiden better than they both realize.
This is a sweet romance and I really liked the messages app and how many messages were buried that they each had to find and the fact that they could leave messages in return.
I will read this one over and over just for the pure joy of the story…
But as with all of Julie’s tales, his one also has some bite. It’s one thing for the “Brother’s best friend and sister” trope when the brother is still there to torment you, but when he’s dead can they really betray him? Luckily the sadness in this book takes a backseat to the true love story between Kali and Aiden and the absolutely best freaking twist in romance history. I rate all books by how I feel at the end, I was so drawn Into this sweet sexy tale all I could do was smile and pat my heart. 5 bright shooting stars!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. This book was amazing, it was heart wrenching, emotional and I couldn’t put it down. When you lose the most important person in your life how do you deal with the loss? Kali and Aiden are dealing with the loss of Kali’s twin Kyle, they’ve all known each other since they were kids and Kali has always been off limits to his friends especially Aiden. Aiden and Kali have always had a special bond and as they grew older it started turning into more than an infatuation. The loss of Kyle is bringing them closer together, but the guilt and sadness surrounding them is taking control of their feelings. Feeling guilty for going after the one person who Aiden has always loved and Kali accepting the love that Aiden is giving. How would Kyle feel about what they are doing? Would he be mad, or would he approve? How would their families react to their relationship? So many emotions to go through, but how can they stay away from each other any longer? Coming together feels so right but also wrong, how do you fight the urge to be with the one you love knowing that your brother and best friend forbade it? Their story is so powerful it will hit you with all the feels you were never expecting. They are explosive together, sexy, the push and pull between them is amazing, and all they need is that one sign that it’s ok to move forward together. Loved this book and I highly recommend it.
It’s no secret that I love pretty much everything that Julie writes, and that doesn’t change with this one.
Aiden has been crushing on his life-long best friends twin sister for as long as he has known her, but Kyle made it clear from the start, Kali was off-limits.
After a freak accident takes the life of Kyle, Adien and Kali are left beyond heartbroken and lost.
The pain is all too much for them to deal with, and they find themselves drawn to each other as they find their way out of the grief and into some sweet (and very sexy) times.
In true Huss style, this book draws you in from the first word and pulls on all the heartstrings right up until the last page.
I could go on and on and give so much away, but let’s just go with this is a beautiful story that will leave you with a major book hangover.
Go grab it . . . like now!
Oh mother of all things holy, this book made me an emotional mess.
I’ve been a big fan of JA Huss’ books for a while now and once I read the info on this book I knew I had to read it. Knowing how amazing JA Huss is with her words I just knew I would love this one as much as her other ones if not more and I was right, this book was amazing.
Kali and Aiden are experiencing grief that no one should have to deal with, the death of their best friend and brother. Not knowing how to handle it they both lean on each other. Reading about the pain, grief and heartache they all go through is just heartbreaking and so sad to witness and not only do you witness it but you feel it too. You feel every single moment they hurt, when they’re happy or when they’re grieving, you feel it all and that is down to the incredible writing from this amazing author.
JA Huss has a knack for pulling you in from the get go and sucking you into a world that consists of only her character and their story and absolutely nothing else. That’s exactly what Pretty Thing does, it takes over your mind and thoughts and all you can think about is it. It’s really very incredible and I loved it.
Pretty Thing is sad and beautiful with a whole lot of sexy, so much sexy you’ll be needing a few panty changes or a really cold shower.
Pretty Thing by JA Huss was a fabulous read!
As soon as I heard about this new book from JA, I knew that I was going to have to pick it up.
Kali and Aiden are two characters with an undeniable chemistry and connection. Despite the fact that they are both off limits to one another, they can’t help the pull they feel towards one another. Yes, it is a physical connection; however, it is also so much more. They were able to understand and connect with one another on a much deeper level than purely physical. They got what each other was going through, as well as were able to help each other get through it.
I cannot wait to read many more books like this one from JA in the future!
4/5 Stars!
