Folks say I’m reckless. I suppose loading a Texas Ranger in the ass with buckshot in my fit of jealousy earned me more scrutiny than the preacher’s wife at a Sunday potluck.
Now I work as a deputy, and the pistol on my hip is registered. I’m finally moving past all the tongue wagging about my youthful escapades. That is until Gunner Wilson, the object of said target practice, struts his cowboy … his cowboy boots back into town. Now he keeps showing up everywhere with that sexy grin of his.
All I want to do is solve this latest case then kick the cocky, tattooed lawman to the curb. But Gunner has gotten under my skin. And hell, that’s a problem, because I’ve made a new life in Pistol Rock, one that doesn’t include my hotter than hell ex-boyfriend. Except now I need his help…and asking a favor from Gunner might cost me more than just a pair of panties…
The Deputy Laney Briggs series is best enjoyed in order.

Of all of author Jodi Linton’s Deputy Laney Briggs series, this was my favorite. Don’t get me wrong the others were terrific, but I’m putting this one down as my favorite. It had secrets, undercover work, mysteries revealed, broken trust and hearts, love and sex all consuming, but what I loved the most was the humor. I tell you, Laney and Gunner can argue, make-up and have the greatest sex written. But the thing I like the best is the leg slapping, snarky humor.. I don’t do spoilers so this is it. I hope this is enough to get you to grab it, read it and review it. You won’t be sorry; I bet my britches you’ll love it.
Awesome book loved it from the beginning of the book to the ending
Someone finally gave a monkey a keyboard. Not since Alexandra Ripley’s Scarlet has a book so thoroughly disappointed. The characters are beyond stereotypical and flat. After the first chapter, the novel went from pretty reckless to pretty feckless. The climactic scene in the book was more poorly choreographed than a Power Rangers fight scene. No one, not even in Texas, has that many spare guns laying around. I cannot fathom anything short of a complete re-write saving this story.
Enjoyed it
Enjoyable interaction between the characters.
I am reading it now and hate to put it down.
With sassy dialogue and more twists and turns than a bucking bronc at a rodeo.
Different!
Wow
Too many murders, lots of stupid people and a old flame showing up. This story was great. Laney is a Deputy Sheriff in the small town she grew up in, engaged to the vet and tries to do everything right. Gunner is now a Texas Ranger and loved Laney but messed up. Now he is back in town to arrest the K dealer.
Couldn’t get into it. Didn’t finish.
DNF at 33%. Okay, you catch your lover in bed with another woman, shoot him in the backside with rock salt and later become a deputy in the town. But when said former lover, a Texas Ranger, returns it’s all you can do to keep your hands off him – even though you’re engaged to another man. Nope, not buying it. And, not only has this woman no self-respect, she is ineffective as a law enforcement officer. I struggled on, but at the 33% point, I decided if one more character “winked” at another character I was going to gag. I was done.
Excellent writer! First time I’ve read this author and can’t wait to read more.
Laney Briggs thinks she has her life all figured out and everything is just where she wants it, but in the blink of an eye it’s turned upside down and she is wondering what in the hell just happened. Bodies are piling up, she is trying to catch the killer, and now in walks her drop dead gorgeous devil of an ex-Texas Ranger Gunner Wilson and he wants to pick-up where they left things off…and there is no way that is happening, he has been replaced! But little by the little the sexy and oh so alluring devil clad in tight fittin’ Wranglers keeps finding a way to sneak under her radar and into her business and she is fighting him every step of the way. He had his chance and he blew it and she is not about to let him do it again… well maybe?
The moment I saw the cover for this one I knew I had to read it, it spoke volumes to me, that sexy shirtless cowboy peaked my interest and I wasn’t about to walk away from him without learning every little tidbit about him… and MERCY did I love what I find!! I love a good romantic suspense novel every now and then, and I have to say this is by far one of the best that I have read in a long while, Laney and Gunner were an absolute delight!! They kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through, had me giggling from time to time, and blushing more times than not!! It was refreshing to read a story with a strong female heroine, that was able to stand toe to toe with the alpha male character in the story, and give him just as much as he gave her, Laney is something else!! I loved that the characters in this story came with a very realistic quality, their big personalities shined through page after page, and they made me want not want to leave when my time with them was over! Now I am dying to get back to them and see what other adventure they have in store for me!!
Highly recommend this one, it is sure to keep you entertained from start to finish!!
