I just love this author’s books. Some scenes are not my cup of tea but she writes them in a way that are good for me.
This book answers a lot of questions but let me with so many more.
I just love McKay that man is all.
Maggie is my favorite character so far. Her relationship with Adam was the best part of the book for me.
I still don’t know what to think of Nathan.
I really want to know what happened to Indi before Adam and in the four years that she was missing.
This books has so many things that you just have to read it is not a book that you can explain without spoiling.
I can’t wait for the next book and to know the answer to all the mystery and questions.
JA Huss truly writes everything you would ever want or need in a book. Granted they are a little (lot) dark and twisted, but aren’t those the best kind of books? Huss’s brilliance never fails to amaze me. Amaze me she has in Pretty Nightmare.
This book will have you on the edge of your seat and guessing clear up to the last page. My mind was completely blown with the ending. Huss is just that brilliant in her writing!
We all know and love Indie, McKay, Adam, and Donovan. We were introduced to Maggie in a Creeping Beautiful, so you love her too. We have voices from the past with insights into what happened when Indie was a child. How she was with Nathan when she wasn’t with Adam, McKay, and Donovan. What happened in the missing years with all four of them. We get to know Donovan a lot more. What he was doing when he was out on his own.
We get to know a pretty little nightmare coming into her own with “Daddy” Adam. This kid is a genius and her banter with Adam with have you laughing. She is such a treat to this story. I hope someday that Maggie will get her own book. I feel her story is far from being done.
So have a seat on that swinging platform at Old Home and read (watch) what happens next.
This book is a wild ride!
(No spoilers. Read Creeping Beautiful first.)
Indie, Donovan, McKay, and Adam havé much to do to resolve their relationships. This book brings clarity and detail to that end. There were missing years and forgotten memories to be revealed. Nate and Maggie also get some questions answered.
I loved the island setting of Old House, their trips to town and upriver on a boat. I feel like I’ve been to that place, which gives full credit to Julie’s writing placing me there at the beach with fireflies, mosquitoes, and gators.
I truly could not take a break from reading the last third of the book Could. Not. Put. It. Down.
Can’t wait for the audio. Gonna be incredible!
The second book in the series is as good as, if not better than, the first. Every time I finish a JA Huss book I have to sit back and let myself recover for a bit from the ride she just took me on. Every time you think you know what is next, you don’t. Don’t even try, you’ll be embarrassed by her ingenious plot twists. I can’t wait for the conclusion to the series, although if you are an avid reader of Julie’s you’ll know that her stories never truly end. This is a definite five star read for me.
So many details, so little time! This is one those books that you need to pay extra attention to! The devil is in the details and that’s the truth for this story. So intricate and woven so together nicely!
Pretty Nightmare is one the few books I’ve read where summerizing it is just not possible. It’s an experience. You have to strap yourself in and trust JA Huss will get you to the other side. Questions will be answered this time. Often not even close to the way you expected. More questions will be brought up. In the end Pretty Nightmare is one of those rare books that will having questioning not just everything you read but the world around you. It gets into your brain like the snake it so often references. The snake weaves itself around your thoughts, feelings, your heartbeats. There are times you feel like it’s choking you. Where you won’t know if you can keep reading but you won’t be able to stop. By the end you realize that JA Huss’s words have seeped into you and changed you. It’s not always a comfortable book to read. It asks hard questions about the lines we put up about friendship, love, parenthood, morality. It asks you to stand judgement and then proves to you how wrong you were to try and pass it. It’s the kind of book you finish reading and come back to hours, days, weeks later and discover new things. New things in the words, in the story,in yourself. It’s the type of book you finish in awe of the author desperate for the rest. Desperate for more. It’s the definition of a 5 star read.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This story gets better and better.
Very intricate and you really need to pay attention to the details, details are everything!!
Love that we got that little extra point of view, in my opinion that was so a good idea and needed for the story to flow.
I still love all the character but sometimes I found that I didn’t understand their love, like ok I get they love her but where does the lust for her came from…
Little Maggie, Omg I found her cute and super creepy, LOL, that little girl is really something else
About the guys… loved that we get to know them more intimately, as kids and teenagers, who they really are and how they came to be the way the are right now.
Cannot say I did not saw that coming ( that really really revealing scene), like I said above details are everything and if you pay attention you get it. He was/is my favorite character, so secretive and so different from all of then.
Cannot wait to read what will happen to him, how he will get pass this and how this disfunctional family gets to beat the odds that are against them.
Truly a great different story that you will not be able to put down.
I am literally speechless. I mean I’ve read a ton of JA Huss so I knew what to expect but I find myself being blown away EVERY SINGLE TIME. Like how does she do it??? This book had me hooked from the very beginning! I was happy to know that Indie was going to her HEA! I think about midway through I started to think…..this is awfully hearts and flowers for my girl Huss here. Then I started to get a really bad feeling about what was going to go down! I don’t do spoilers in my reviews but let me tell you this book will go down in the twist hall of fame for me!
Intricate, Complicated and Stunning!!
The Company creates killers, especially in the form of young girls. We are tracking the path of a few here, and the three men who try to save one in particular; Indie.
Where journals written in your own hand and recordings with your own voice somehow do not match. When portions of your memory do not exist at all. When those you thought were dead reappear. A roller-coaster ride, as the characters themselves are not certain of all events. We travel the journey of discovery with each character as they work to survive and deepen their relationships.
There is no other work like this out there. Prepare yourself.
Indie Anna Accorsi is back with the people she loves, Adam Boucher, Core McKay, Donovan Couture, and Maggie, but something isn’t right—still. Indie is fighting to remember her four missing years. Also, she is angry that Nathan isn’t here, the part she played in that event, and the time she missed with her daughter, Maggie. Adam, McKay, and Donovan are worried too. They all deserted their responsibilities and promises to one another. Oh, and there are the secrets. so many secrets that can ruin everything. Who knows if they will ever be the same when no one is sharing their fears!
Pretty Nightmare is not a typical boy meets girl, boy likes girl or girl likes boy, but they need to jump through some hoops to get together. Pretty Nightmare is the Company revisited. Boy buys girl, boy has a team, the team are assassins. Can you trust the girl or boy, or will they turn on one another? Like I said, not typical. O?f course you should not expect typical from this author.
I couldn’t wait for this next book in the Creeping Beautiful series. It was worth it. It meets all my expectations for a new JA Huss book. With Pretty Nightmare we are given a taboo treat (MFMM, MM, FM) set in the world of the Company. The Company is a shadow government that has its tentacles around the world. They train children as assassins who kill without guilt anyone who comes against them. While there are characters you will know if you read The Company series, it isn’t necessary to enjoy this new generation of Company Untouchables.
After reading all of JA Huss’ books multiple times, her clever, slightly twisted mind should not surprise me, but she always does. She is the queen of the unexpected. Her writing style is unique and totally entertaining. Pretty Nightmare is another story that threw me for a loop and kept me guessing from start to finish. I love the stomach clenching and summersaults that are non-stop.
A lot of questions are answered in Pretty Nightmare, but there is more waiting for the next installment in the series. I am crazy for these characters, and the way we get into their heads, with the multiple points of view. Now, I am anxiously waiting for the way their story will wrap up. Pretty Nightmare is everything I have come to love about Julie’s writing, and more. I can’t wait for the audio announcement. A great read!
McCay, Adam, Indie, and Donovan are all together now, just the way Indie wants them. And as everything began to play out, I admit to being surprised by some of the secrets that got exposed, and supremely intrigued by absolutely everything.
The reader gets to find out where Indie was when she was missing, why she was gone, and what happened during that time. But, not just with her, with the guys too! And this was my favorite part, because I didn’t really like them what I got to know of them in the Creeping Beautiful, so the fact that I got to know them so well here, made me much more satisfied.
I liked this second part more than Creeping Beautiful. Each character was more fleshed out, their intentions and actions explained, and I formed connections with each, in a way I did not in the first installment. I won’t tell how it ends, who (if anyone) ends up with who, who is still alive, but I will say that Pretty Nightmare is a sexy, twisty psychological thriller with a plot quite unlike anything I’ve ever read. It answers questions from the first part, poses more questions that remain unanswered, and left me with a book hangover like I haven’t had in forever.
And so the wild ride starts again! Pretty Nightmare was the twisted, mysterious and jaw dropping continuation of this thrilling series.
The lines between Indie, Adam, McKay and Donovan have been blurred from the start. Their struggles to figure out just what they each needed kept me constantly rooting for them all. I enjoyed delving a bit deeper into each of these intriguing and multilayered character’s pasts and felt so much more invested in them. After the questions I was left with previously I was thrilled to get some long awaited answers yet was left to ponder more over what’s still to come.
One of my favorite things about this series so far has been how the amazingly complex characters captivate me with tantalizing glimpses that make my emotions bounce all over the place yet leave me needing so much more of their story. After this edge of the seat, sweltering hot, and mind bending thriller I’m left eagerly waiting to see what’s next for the Company.
This picks up where Creeping Beautiful left off and starts off on a rollercoaster and keeps you on the ride beginning to end. Told in multiple POVs that keep the suspense high and the intrigue on point I couldn’t get enough of this book
This is the second book in the Creeping Beautiful Series, a dark, intricate, steamy and twisted romantic suspense. This Series is a spin-off of the Rook & Ronin/Company Series. The story continues where the first book left off, so you have to read Creeping Beautiful first. This installment is astonishing. Indie, McKay, Donovan and Adam are intriguing, dark, and secretive. We learn more about them, and a little more about the Company. This story has a stupefying world building, and the storyline has unpredictable twists and turns. This was an amazing journey in the Company World. Looking forward to read the next book in the Series.
Mind blown loved this story
What a roller coaster of a ride. Absolutely fantastic characters. They all fit together like a puzzle. They all have there own special functions in there own unique way. Could not put this book down. Can’t wait to read the next book.
Pretty Nightmare by JA Huss takes us back to Indie, McKay, Adam and Donovan and of course Maggie. Let me tell you, it was quite the ride! First, you do need to read Creeping Beautiful before starting this one, but let me tell you, it is worth it! There are secrets at every turn, but will they keep them safe or hurt them all more in the end? What happened in those years Indie can’t remember? Though we do begin to get some answers, in true JA Huss fashion, we get twice as many questions. I do not want to give too much away, because this story (both books so far) needs to just be experienced. They are all tied together and yet there are things that drive them individually. And then she throws us some huge surprises and twists! How will it all end? I am so excited to see!
Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
Happy reading!
Wow! What an ending! I’m stunned! I don’t know what I can say without giving anything away. Pretty Nightmare picks up where Creeping Beautiful left off. Indie is living at Old Home with Maggie, McCay, Adam and Donovan. They’re all be cautious because they aren’t sure what Carter is going to do next. Pretty Nightmare gives us some answers from the first book, but also brings more questions. Donovan & Indie work together to try to remember some of their past. Adam, Maggie and McCay work together trying to figure out what information Adam’s dad may have left behind. This book had a lot of twists and turns and mysteries. I had to read each word very carefully to insure I didn’t miss anything. I can’t wait to get the next book to see what happens next. I highly recommend this series to everyone who enjoys solving mysteries as much as I do. Pretty Nightmare is very entertaining with wonderful characters.
Opening a J.A. Huss book you know a couple of things from the outset. The first is that you are going to be sucked into a world that sort of looks like the real world you live in but its got a distortion that makes it a place that is so different. Second, you will see in the lives and minds of people who are more than ordinary, hell, even more than extraordinary. And third, you are going to ask yourself repeatedly what J.A. Huss is smokin’ when she writes these twisted stories.
Pretty Nightmare picks up where Creeping Beautiful left off with things between the foursome in disarray with them back together, after four years apart. Secrets, lies, and truths are bubbling to the surface for all of them and all of them are twisted around each of the characters. Indie is dealing with having her daughter back, Mckay with his feeling for Adam, Donovan with his life choices, Adam with how things stand, and that doesn’t include the myriad of other things swirling around them like an impending tornado about to rip everything to shreds.
Huss takes her characters to their very depths, to the heart of who they are with a skill that leaves the reader feeling what they are, throws curveballs into to her story that will boggle the mind, and delightful teases of what’s to come that leaves you hungry for more.
Pretty Nightmare doesn’t end the story of Indie, Adam, Mckay, and Donovan but does give a satisfying conclusion to this segment of their lives while giving you a peek into the next segment as well as the continuation of the “Company”.
I had to go back and skim through book one again just to put me in the right mindset before diving into this one. Especially after that explosive cliff hanger. I’m glad I did. There are even more secrets in this one, but also lots of revelations that leave you somewhat satisfied. But also leaving room for more to come. Don’t try to figure it out though, because our brilliant author would never make it obvious. Its dark, its a thriller, it gives you the psychological aspect that keeps your heart racing and the pages turning. Great Story, great word building, and amazing strong characters. This book and series are a must read. I have always been a fan of “The Company” world that she created, and this one is top notch.
J.A. Huss has monopoly on freaking out my mind and playing games with my heart. Pretty Nightmare is something seriously twisted and the suspense almost killed me.
Indie, Mckay, Adam and Donovan is stuck in this confusing mess. Well at least I think so. I am not even trying to tell you the storyline in brief because it’s best if you go in blind and the adrenaline hit you. And honestly I don’t know how to tell you anything without spoiling it. It’s just a mindf*** story of four deeply flawed people who are prey of some more deeply flawed and extremely powerful entity called Company. There are so many questions. You will get some answers but probably have some more questions.
J.A. Huss has very carefully set the trap to capture me. This story made me stop and start so many times as I try to figure out the reality. The corrup, sick and malevolent Company has damaged so many lives. And these people are trying to find their truth. In such unnatural and stressful time, emotions run high. And their dynamics become more complicated. Love, lust, anger, guilt, fear, swoon, friendship, depravity, pain- everything mixed to make this enticing combination. I was in this surreal state that is speciality of J.A. Huss.
If you love romantic suspense with an intriguing storyline and complex characters with terrific writing, Pretty Nightmare by J.A. Huss is a must read for you.
