I’m having an out-of-body experience. At least…I think. Isn’t that what it’s called when your spirit abandons you to watch—from a safe distance, with the appropriate amount of judgement—while you make questionable decisions?Yup, one of those.I want to shout, “STOP, ELLIE, DON’T DO IT!” But spirit me doesn’t have a voice. So I watch as she…I…we? makes a sex contract with her…our…new … contract with her…our…new boss.
This is a good time to mention the 45-minute HR meeting we sat through last month expressly forbidding this sort of thing.
In our defense, Max is ridiculously hot, and I…we may have accidentally quit.
With a sigh, I look down at the bodies pressed against the wall of the executive office.
Yup, we’re totally screwed.

Pretty Little Mess is the first book I’ve read from this author and it definitely won’t be my last. I devoured this book in one sitting. I absolutely loved it! Ellie and Max along with all of the characters in this story was funny and entertaining. There was never a dull moment in this story. I was smiling from the very beginning of this story until the very end. I enjoyed the back and forth banter between Ellie and Max, and Max and Jalen all too much. It’s a story full of laughs, banter, steamy scenes, scandals, betrayal and surprises. This story was everything and more and I will be recommending it to family and friends. I look forward to reading more books from this author.
Carmel has done it again with PLM! If you love to read smoking hot steamy office romances with lead and supporting characters that draw you in to their world and leave you wanting more after the final page then you won’t wanna miss out on reading PLM. The firey clash of wills and off the charts chemistry between Ellie and Max is hot no question, but it’s their story that makes you fall in love and root for this couple as they battle towards their forever and fight like mad to achieve their dreams. Loved this one so much and I want to read more stories revolving around this fantastic fun cast of characters.
I knew I’d love this book because anything written by Carmel Rhodes is always AMAZING and she definitely did not disappoint. Carmel has definitely outdone herself once again. Max and Ellie draw you in with their rude but hot banter and of course the sex. Max is the bad boy we all love to hate but love anyways and Ellie is his perfect match to keep him in line while still remaining a steaming hot couple. I absolutely loved the “surprise” that pops up as well. Thank you again for helping me escape the stresses of real life and letting me disappear into the hot mess that is Max and Ellie.
This is a new author to me, and I will certainly be looking out for her work in the future. I loved Max and Ellie and the explosive chemistry between them. This is a well written story which is humorous, steamy, and full of love. I was completely captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I cannot wait to read more form this talented author, whose work I recommend for all.
Loved it!
Audio Review: Pretty Little Mess by Carmel Rhodes, Narrated by Lacy Laurel & Connor Crais
Pretty Little Mess speaks for itself. Rhodes, Laurel and Crais are a breath of fresh air in a time of uncertainty. Max and Ellie are a riot. Each time I thought I couldn’t laugh any harder, I was proven wrong yet again. Ellie is the queen of bad choices and Max is her latest. When the heart and hormones collide, things go from bad to worse. Funny, flirty, fabulous.
What do you mean you haven’t seen Black Panther!?!??!??!?!

This girl right here didn’t know how much time an audiobook consumes!!! LOL. I wasn’t ready. This is my first time reviewing an ALC. I loved Ellie. She seems so energetic and full of life. I rooted for her to survive this hell called Mr. Anderson’s company LOL. She and Max shared a lot of steam – which was amusing to listen to by the way. They brought the heat! Carmel Rhodes definitely serves us with a story of intrigue and drama. The family dynamics are on the one hand lovely and on the other highly questionable. And. Dysfunctional. This was an easy listen (even if it took a long time – it feels like a long time because I read so fast I feel), and I was highly entertained.
I’m a big fan of Carmel Rhodes, so I bought this book and devoured it in one day. I was further honored to receive an advance copy of the audio book in exchange for an honest review. Carmel’s writing is always intricate, well-paced, and relatable. In this book, Ellie is a young black woman and former Army brat who moves to New York City with her twin sister in hopes of finishing fashion design school and landing her dream job. Max is a white, privileged heir-apparent of is father’s corporation. Ellie struggles to get her footing in the professional world of the big city and lands a job working temporarily for Max as his assistant. Max is rude, arrogant, handsome and used to women falling all over him. He pushes the boundaries with Ellie, but the attraction between them is deep and undeniable. They discover that despite their company’s non-fraternization policy, their chemistry is incredibly strong and worth risking everything. Loves comes when it’s least expected.
The audio narration is so well-executed and really tells the tale of these two people who couldn’t be more different, but add so much to each other’s worlds. The story is unapologetically sexy and brings to mind how reckless and powerful love is, especially with a healthy dose of crazy sexual attraction.
I really loved this book, and the audio narration added depth and layers to the story. I highly recommend this author and her work. There’s always something in her books that makes you think and will turn convention on it’s head.
This was my first Carmel Rhodes’s book, and won’t be my last. Ellie and Max’s story, an office romance, is funny, sexy and sweet. Max is rich, handsome, alpha, and protective. Ellie is sassy, strong, independent, and determined. I love their banter, and their strong chemistry. Erin (Ellie’s sister), and Jayel (Max’s friend) are great supporting character. Lacy Laurel and Connor Crais did an amazing job with the narration. They are perfect as Ellie and Max, and I love their voices together. I enjoyed it!
This review is for the audio version of this book. The narrators were perfect. They brought this opposites attract, enemies to lovers story to life. This story is bold, witty and steamy. If you love arrogant, sexy alpha males and strong, feisty young women this is the story for you. The banter between these two is laugh out loud hilarious. I really enjoyed this audiobook and give it five stars. I highly recommend this audiobook.
Carmel Rhodes writes beautifully well-written and romantic stories that will keep you intrigued and entertained. Pretty Little Mess is no exception. The writing, plot and dialogue is superb. The character development, delicious banter and chemistry between P-Three and Piss Girl is off the charts!!! I was blessed to receive an Advance Listener Copy (ALC) of Pretty Little Mess and WOW!! The narration for this book was sublime. Narrators Lacy Laurel and Connor Crais are amazing…they put a lot of heart and steamy sexiness into their performance. Thank you for the great listen.

*AUDIOBOOK REVIEW*
I listened to the audiobook of Pretty Little Mess and I loved how the narrators brought the book to life, they were just amazing.
This book was a perfect office romance, hot, funny, entertaining with amazing characters an a plot I really enjoyed.
Everything starts on an elevator ride, Ellie(a pretty little mess) stumbles onto Max ( cocky, prick and player) who now by destiny are stuck together in more ways than one.
I loved Ellie’s character so much, she is sweet, fun and she is not afraid to speak her mind. She is the only one that puts Max in his place. Max is attracted to Ellie, there is no doubt about that and he doesn’t understand why but she is the only one that brings this possessive side of him (by the way is so hot)and makes his days look much brighter than before.
Two opposites attracts and an arrangement can change to different terms. So if you love romance, banter, drama, and absolutely fabulous characters pick the book or in my case the audiobook and start reading or listening now. Pretty Little Mess is pretty amazing!!!
Pretty Little Mess
By Carmel Rhodes
Narrated by Lacy Laurel and Connor Crais
Office romance, it’s so easy to understand falling for the rich, good looking boss. But Carmel Rhodes gives us a whole new appreciation for this trope. We meet Ellie, who is trying to get by. Living with her twin sister, she takes this job to make ends meet. Max, her boss is less than pleasant upon their first meeting, but the undeniable chemistry has a deal made and the fun begins. But what neither realizes is the depth of the attraction and what it will lead to if not careful. This is my first Carmel Rhodes book, but it will not be my last. I love a good, arrogant, overprotective alpha male, and Max is exactly that. Frustrating and even degrading at times, he proves to have a lot of layers. Ellie is amazing. She never loses sight of her goals and will not let a man get her down. The banter is funny, their chemistry explosive and the story is just pure entertainment. Add in the secondary characters of Erin and Jayel and it made for a fantastic listen.
Lacy Laurel and Connor Crais bring this gem to life. I loved this team together, each having a great read on their characters.Laurel adds so much to Ellie, letting us be strong, yet have the vulnerable girl with us as we fall in love. Crais is amazing as Max, peeling off the layers with his voice. Their voices compliment each other and enhance the book with their storytelling.
This is a romantic comedy that i could not put down.
It started with a disagreement and emded with sort of office romance turned forever love.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I LOVED this book. I will not give the synopsis since you can read the blurb and others give more detail but I definitely recommend!
The chemistry, sexiness, sweetness, and twists in plot kept things very interesting.
I cannot wait to read more by this author. Definitely worth your time!
I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
An outstanding book. I laughed too hard at Max and Ellie. They were just perfect together.
Different than the others books the author has written. I really liked it.
5 I WANT MORE MAX AND ELLIE STARS! I gobbled PLM up in one sitting. I couldn’t get enough of the chemistry that sizzled off the pages. This hot AF, enemies-to-lovers, office romance had me swooning from the get-go. I loved seeing Max’s usual arrogant, cocky self turn soft when Ellie was around. Not that it was hard to do. Ellie’s sweet and caring could turn even the hardest of men into mush.
I can’t recommend Pretty Little Mess enough. I think any romance lover will fall in love with Max and Ellie along with Carmel Rhodes.
“The girl is a mess. Pretty, great rack, but a f*ing disaster on two legs.”
Carmel Rhodes KILLS it with her first rom com. I had the biggest grin on my face almost the whole time… (she does slip a dash of angst in there to keep us on our toes). Max Anderson is your hot, mysterious, cocky, playboy that falls for sweet, quirky, lovable Ellie Chase. Their chemistry is instant from the second they meet, and I spent the rest of the book, trying to breathe under their sexual tension. Throw in the part about it being a forbidden delicious office romance, and I was dying all the deaths! Rhodes’ wit shines through the pages and I found myself laughing out loud at Max and Ellie’s banter, and Ellie’s inner thoughts. If you’re familiar with Rhodes’ work then you know that her love scenes are FIRE but watching them fall in love while trying to navigate said love scenes was a full blown inferno. I loved loved loved Pretty Little Mess and I can’t wait for more funny, witty, sexy rom coms from Carmel Rhodes!
I love office romances, and this one had everything I was looking for!!!
