Sisters. Strangers. Survivors.
More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia’s teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss—a devastating wound that’s cruelly ripped open when Claire’s husband is killed.
The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: what could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago . . . and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.
Powerful, poignant, and utterly gripping, packed with indelible characters and unforgettable twists, Pretty Girls is a masterful novel from one of the finest writers working today.

Loved this book and this author! This story was so good and a DEFINITE page turner!
There are some disturbing scenes, but unfortunately, this happens in the real world.
Karin writes the story well with a great ending.
Great read. Another hit for Karen!
Will read the author again
Interesting and suspenseful
I love her books and I love books that are page turners.
Patterson never disappoints.
The bad guy is the stuff of nightmares but the courage of the sisters and their mother is uplifting.
I didn’t want to put this book down. One gets very involved with the characters.
This was well written but scary and I kept thinking what kind of a mind dreams this stuff up.
Interesting characters and story but takes the gore just a bit too far for my taste. Definitely lots of twists and turns. I also appreciate that it illustrates how far and deep the ripple effect of violence goes.
A wonderful read
My only complaint is that it just went on about 20 pages too long, but it really was a page-turner.
Please know that Karin Slaughter is a good word-smith and good story teller. This book does not meet her usual standards, but it is still well above current main stream writings. Yes, please, read and enjoy her works. They are addictive as well as informative.
Another wonderful thriller fro m one of my favorite writers. I recommend all her books!
This book gave me chills. Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter is a dark, addictive and disturbing crime thriller. It is NOT, however, for the faint of heart! I seriously have to ask if Karin Slaughter is okay because this book is wickedly messed up! Full disclosure, it is EXTREMELY graphic and disturbing, reader discretion is advised!
This novel is about two young women, Julia Carroll and Anna Kilpatrick, who have gone missing decades apart from each other. Through the lens of the two remaining sisters, Lydia and Claire, we’re given a masterfully written thriller detailing the journey of finding out what happened to these two missing women.
Although Lydia and Claire’s relationship has been uneasy over the years, the two are brought back together after the death/murder of Claire’s husband. After his funeral, Claire learns he may not have been the man she thought he was. I’m not going to give away the plot here, as much of the story unravels here into a heart-pacing, gripping tale that left me gasping at the end.
Let’s just say this book surely delivers on the shock value! And for that reason I will disclose there are many triggers in this book that could make both male and female readers stay away from this book. As an avid reader of thrillers and horror novels, I didn’t find this to be too overwhelming but the graphic violence in the book could be too much for other readers.
I loved the way this book is formatted; the diary entries knitted between the chapters of the storyline was very clever. This is my first Karin Slaughter novel and I’m completely blown away by her writing and her plot developments. I would absolutely love to pick this woman’s brain. To craft such a dark, suspenseful and cunning story — I certainly will be going back for more of her books!
This book is precisely what I look for out of a thriller! Something that leaves you gasping at the details and stays with you for days is hard to come by. I’m beyond grateful my Atlanta Social Book Club decided Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter. Let’s just say the fact that the book is set in Atlanta and some details take place where I love to go made me a wee bit uneasy. But that’s what makes a great book — something that haunts your thoughts, even dreams and day-to-day life. This was an absolute page-turner and a perfect thriller for avid fans of dark, clever and suspenseful writing.

Absolutely loved it! Such big twists and turns from start to finish!
Love everything Karin Slaughter
If you’re brave enough to traverse a darkly violent world, this book is an amazing character study of two sisters who fight to learn the truth about their past if they have any hope of finding a future. This seemed like a departure to me from other books I’ve read from Karin Slaughter but I still enjoyed it. It is so well written and plotted, with tension and twists I never saw coming. If you get a copy of the book that has the short story at the end, I highly recommend reading it. It closes the loop. It’s not necessary to the story but adds a heart-wrenching truth to not only the story but the statistics revealed.
This was a great, well-constructed thriller with enjoyable twists and turns. I predicted the mid-way twist, but I always feel gratified when I figure it out early rather than disappointed. The characters and villain were well fleshed out, and Claire and Lydia’s relationship as sisters was believable and interesting.

HOW DID SHE NOT KNOW?
Important note: I think there should be a trigger warning for the graphic violence in the book. Depends on your level of discomfort, I guess. I read a TON of thrillers and have seen every episode of Law & Order SVU, and some of the descriptions —especially near the end — were a bit much even for me.
