Love isn’t always pretty. Sometimes you have to break the thing you love in order to put the pieces back together again.
“Life is all about choices. Do I want pizza or a hamburger for dinner? Should I wear a red skirt or blue slacks to work? Do I take a million dollar check and divorce the love of my life to keep my baby brother out of jail? In case you’re wondering, I took the check. Now my ex … the check. Now my ex is back in my life. He’s still angry and…he’s my new boss.”
Pretty Broken Girl is the passionate retelling of a marriage gone wrong.
From the boardroom to the bedroom, Dakota Atwell and Samuel Seaforth are locked in a battle of wits and desire. One of them will break. One of them will pay. Both of them want to win. Neither of them expects to fall in love…again.
This is Book 1 of a series. It contains adult language, adult situations, and hot steamy sex.

I thought it was a good read. Realistic, not really. Funny and steamy, yes indeedie! I enjoyed the book even if it wasn’t realistic though.
Intriguing. At first, I wasn’t sure I liked it. Since I got it for free, I almost gave up on it. But it grew on me as I continued reading. Now I am considering purchasing the other titles in this series. I want to know how their lives turn out.
A good story up until the end. It just ended. This is obviously part of a series, but the ending was much too abrupt for my taste.
This is one book that makes you think how would I handle that situation.
I was really enjoying this book but it ended abruptly. I now know there was a second part. However the ending could have been smoother and introductory to the next part. It ended like a cut of sentence and that was annoying.
This book was very good. I had a hard time putting the book down and even have the next book on my wish list. Highly recommended!
Cliff hanger without access to the next book in the series. Not cool.
Cliff hanger
Cliffhanger and too much sex. It took away from the partial story. I was liking it much better when I thought it had a proper ending. She got paid off by his rich dad to divorce him. He becomes rich I his own right and buys a company she works at although he did know it. It goes back and forth, on and off and that’s it.
Good Greif- for the life of me, I do not understand how I just found out this fresh, tantalizing, and IMO frustrating take on second chance romance!
The world of Dakota and Samuel is chaotic, hot, full of secrets, and I am hooked!
I am moving straight from this book to the next- I need another Kota and Sam fix stat!
Pretty Broken Girl is the first book in the story of Sam and Dakota. Sam is from an affluent family that has big dreams for him . It is the material things they hold high and want to lead him on that same path. When he finds love with a daughter of one of the household staff they believe it is a passing phase but soon realize they couldn’t be more wrong. Dakota is smart, sassy beautiful young woman that wants to make a name for herself when she leaves this small judgement filled town. What she doesn’t count on is finding love with the beautiful boy in the big house . When outside forces intervene Kota feels that she should make these choices for them and she walks away…..A Pretty Broken Girl. When a chance meeting in a coffee shop finds her face to face with her past she soon realizes that she may have broken Sam too. They now find themselves working together but Sam is not the sweet, caring man that she left behind he has become a hard business man and quintessential playboy .
Loved it and I cannot wait to see where Jeana takes them in this second chance !
~~Michele McMullen ~~
Oh. My. God. Talk about a second chance romance!! I absolutely loved seeing how Dakota & Sam met, how they fell in love, fell out of love, & then how they reacted to being in each others lives again! There was so much tension & chemistry that it just poured off the pages & hit you right in the face!! I couldn’t put the book down! Y’all need to go read the book right now!
I’m so glad that there will be more books after this one! I can’t wait for the rest of the series!!
Sam and Dakota used to be so in love. Then the act of betrayal that drove them apart. Years later they come back into contact when he becomes her new boss. Yikes…
I love me a second chance romance, plus you combine it with a sort of enemies to lovers vibe, AND a hot boss trope, and I’m so there. Yep, I really liked Pretty Broken Girl. Dakota is broken indeed, but she’s strong, and I like how she behaved with Sam. I didn’t necessarily like Sam, but I could sort of understand where his grumpy ass attitude came from, considering what he had been forced to think all the years they were apart.
Now the question is, can they truly make a second chance work? I certainly hope so and can’t wait to read the rest of the series now!
Pretty Broken Girl was aa really good read, I loved it.
A second Chance romance full of emotion, angst and chemistry. Both main characters were strong people, both trying to fight their true feelings, both remembering who the other was ten years earlier.
Sam and Dakota fell in love in high school. He gave up his privileged life to be with her, without a second thought. After two years of marriage there lives were torn apart by his blackmailing father and her need to protect her family. The feelings Dakota had for Sam never receded and she hated herself for what she did, but she tried to move on.
Problem is he’s back and neither can stay away, no matter how hard they try. Back along with Sam coming back into her life his manipulating Father also makes another appearance.
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
If you follow my reviews then you’ll know that I’m a huge fan of Jeana E. Mann. This book, Pretty Broken Girl, didn’t disappoint at all! I seem to read all of her books in reverse chronological order of series release though. Being a huge fan of her Royals series, The Rebel Queen duet & The Exiled Prince trilogy, it was a refreshing change of pace to read a contemporary office romance from her. That doesn’t accurately describe what Pretty Broken Girl really is though because it was so much more layered and complex. It is a second chance romance, while also having the taboo office romance elements and some enemies to lovers as well. Dakota and Sam are perfectly matched in some ways while being polar opposites in others. I loved it!
This book was more than I was expecting it to be. The blurb grabbed my attention but the moment I started this book I couldn’t put it down.
Dakota and Samuel were married and happy until they weren’t. It’s been ten years and they are seeing each other for the first time. Dakota never expected for Samuel to become her new boss. She doesn’t know how to act around him the attraction is still there. The more I read this book we go some answers and I was so mad at one character in particular.
If you’re looking for a fast read that will captivate you with a unique story look no further. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I need to know what happens for Dakota and Samuel.
I enjoyed the book and the story, it kept me hooked until the very end!
Sam and Dakota were young and in love but from different social stratospheres so when they married, Sam’s father took it upon himself to break them up. Dakota took a deal that secured her family but cost her the love of her life. Sam, left alone with no explanations, becomes bitter and 10 years later gets his revenge but that, too, comes with a high price.
Pretty Broken Girl is a second chance at love story where you have to keep in mind that the heroine is very young when she makes the decision that she does. A girl in her late teens when she married, Dakota was still plagued by the doubts and lack of self-awareness that only comes into fruition with age and experience. She believed that she was doing the right thing and fell prey to a man who played on her fears and worries. Sam, who should have seen through his father’s lies, was only 18 as well so he fell victim to his pride, never looking beyond his hurt to find out why Dakota did what she did. Again, age and experience were the lack that broke them.
This first in the duet starts 10 years after Dakota left and Sam has come back into her life and taken over the company that she works for. Sam is bent on revenge and Dakota is drowning in guilt which makes for intense scenes where I wanted to scream at the characters to breathe and talk to each other but they each have their personal agendas that must play out for things to resolve itself.
A good opening to the duet and I look forward to how Ms. Mann plays out the rest of this drama.
What a heart wrenching story. While I want to smack Dakota for not talking to Sam before taking his father’s money, I really felt for her. To have to choose between your family and the love of your life. I can’t imagine how to make that decision. I’m glad he finally got the truth and they have a second chance. I just hope they can move on from the past and get back to where they were.
After I read The Royal Arrangement and The Rebel Queen by this author, I searched for other titles. I love how this author writes, alpha heroes with little glimpses of vulnerability, strong and courageous women and straightforward stories that don’t involve keeping secrets or second agendas. I found this book, which was free, so score! And I loved the trope, a divorced couple who reunite ten years later and find that their feelings are still strong.
When Dakota Atwell was eighteen years old, she started dating Samuel Seaforth. This was the typical tale of the girl from the trailer park part of the city, dating the rich boy, son of the town’s wealthiest family. Dakota’s mother was the Seaforth’s housekeeper and Dakota herself worked at their house during summers. This didn’t hamper their feelings and they eventually married. Samuel forsook his family and his inheritance for Dakota, and after one year of marriage, Dakota suddenly left and divorced Sam, accepting a payment from Sam’s father to the tune of one million dollars.
Ten years later, she’s working in the Acquisitions department of Harmony Developments, has gone far in her career and making a good living. One surprising day, Samuel appears at her place of work. He’s the owner of Infinity Enterprises, a vulture company that acquires businesses and dismantles them, keeping only the money making sections. Samuel’s intent is taking over the company, and became in one fell stroke, Dakota’s new boss. Vengeance, anybody?
This was one deliciously angsty story. We learn the real reasons why Dakota took the bribe from Samuel’s father, and all that occurred between the years while they were separated. They had both gone through the heartbreak of their divorce, and had hidden broken parts that hadn’t been dealt with. All Samuel’s hostility and Dakota’s repentance bubble up and find expression in their fights, sexual tension, rancor and guilt. While they are dealing with their issues, Samuel’s father comes into the scene again and causes more strife. In the end, the real reason for Dakota’s defection came up, and more importantly, Dakota’s excuse; she was young, inexperienced, she never felt worthy enough, and she thought she was hampering Samuel’s future. I loved both characters, felt their love for the other and was cheering them on to get it together. Samuel had to realize the personal effect his father’s betrayal had on him, and Dakota needed to gain Samuel’s trust again. It was an upward climb but I trusted they loved each other enough to make it. I totally loved this angsty story!
We get an HEA of sorts, more like a promise of an HEA. Their story continues with Pretty Filthy Lies.
