“Jenn Hype is a funny, snarky, brutally engaging author of sexy, angsty NA.” – USA TODAY Best Selling Author Samanthe BeckTo say I’m lacking a life plan would be a gross understatement. Yeah, I ‘survived’ something horrific and still managed to graduate college, but it did me little good. Here I am three years later with no life plan, no money and no goals, moving to a big city to live with my … with my best friend in hopes of putting my self-destructive behavior behind me and getting my life back on track.
Stacy and I met in college. She’s the quintessential good-time girl, which means she just barely has her crap together herself. If I manage to survive living with her without getting arrested or seriously embarrassing myself, then I’ll consider that a step in the right direction.
No steps in any direction have even been made before Ian enters the picture, throwing me even further off course with all his sexy charm and annoying persistence. I’ve never had a guy so incapable of taking a hint. I don’t care if he’s Stacy’s best friend and one of the city’s most eligible bachelors. Doesn’t make a difference to me that he’s a walking contradiction; his gorgeous face and unrelenting kindness won’t do him any good when it comes to me.
Even if I wanted Ian – which I don’t – I’m nowhere near ready for a serious relationship, and I swore off casual sex when I moved in with Stacy. So no matter how deliciously tempting he is, I’m not going to give in to Ian.
Really I’m not.

Overall this was a good and interesting book. Adalyn has a very strong personality and you either hate it or love it. Adalyn has not had the easiest life which has left her with trust issues and tall walls built around her heart. At times Adalyn is downright rude to anyone and everyone just to keep them away which is really harsh and hurtful. Ian didn’t have the best of relationships which has driven him to focus on his company and nothing else. Ian seems to see right through Adalyn’s BS and rude personality after their first encounter. They each struggle with their emotions and how to handle them. Each pushes the other out of their comfort zone and not in the best way. Ian & Adalyn both have issue to work on and need each other to do so. I really enjoyed Stacy and wish I had more of her and Adalyn’s friendship. The main plot twist did seem a bit far-fetched due to the fact how she associated her traumatic experience and how quickly she overcame it. Regardless this was an intriguing story and look forward to the next book
This book! Ian! I And Adalyn, of course. I loved it! I connected with the characters; they felt real and flawed in ways that made things more realistic. The storyline was really good. And, again, Ian! Loved him and everything about this book.
This is the first time in reading this author. In this you get to see how Adalyn handles life and what it throws at her. Needing a path would be a understatement seeing what she has been going on. Then Ian comes along and this author really has your attention then because you have to see where the chemistry leads them. Through the ins and outs you see what goes on and slowly getting emotions along with it. Her friend is the filler that makes this a balanced read from beginning to end.
I really liked this story, the characters have so many levels to them.
Well geez Louise this book make you go through all of the feelings. Adalyn is really just going through life. She can keep a job because she gets bored or her mouth gets her in trouble. Stacy is her best friend and roommate. One day Stacy brings her to a building and boy does Adalyn stick her foot in her mouth. Stacy has lined up a job interview with the owner Ian. And Adalyn pretty much was the biggest S.O.A.B. To him. Now if she gets the job it will be a miracle. She’s been through the ringer and swears she doesn’t need saving but maybe she really does need a superhero.
Adalyn is a snarky, sarcastic, totally hateable woman with more issues than a political debate and I’m sure many would put her in the “not worth it” pile but that would be a mistake. Adalyn represents that broken piece inside all of us just struggling to survive and needing to feel something, anything really, that doesn’t threaten to cut off her air supply.
Ian had the potential to either become the air she breathes or the plastic bag over her head that will end her suffering. No middle ground for these two.
Watching (because let’s face it, this book is like watching a movie play out in my head) the cat and mouse chase these 2 go on and the hilarity that is Stacy makes this a 5 star any day of the week!

This was the first book I read by this author and I really enjoyed their writing and the story they written. I am a big fan of NA reads and found that the author did a great job with writing this genre. This story had so much emotion written throughout it and the author did a wonderful job with sone of the hard topics that were written in this story. I really enjoyed the characters in the story.
I loved Ian and Adalyn’s story. Adalyn is dealing/not dealing with an event in her past the only way she knows how. Ian sees something in her and sees through the facade. He does not give up on Adalyn and thereby learns they have an unknown former connection. This is just an amazing story. How Adalyn dealt with Maggie was the best!
Adalyn and Stacy have been best friends forever and after moving across several states the move in with Stacy, Adalyn is in a slump and Stacy finds a job interview for her.
What she wasn’t expecting was the instant attraction that she felt when she met Ian. Adalyn has control issues due to her past and has sworn of men but Ian is persistent.
When Ian sees Adalyn, he can’t believe how gorgeous she is, although surprised that she is immune to his charms. Ian also has a past and has been hurt before and didn’t want a relationship until he met Adalyn, but there’s something about her that he can’t stop thinking about, realising that she’s been hurt before and needs time he’s happy to give her all the time she needs.
Adalyn and Ian become closer but he realises that she needs space and gives her the space she needs, but lets her know he’s not going anywhere.
They go through a lot with their past, ex’s and Ian’s sister but Ian is determined that he wants the happily ever after with Adalyn.
Pressing Adalyn – Pretending Book 1 by Jenn Hype – 4 stars
How do you know when you’ve just met your best friend? When you meet under less than desirable conditions, end up in a pushing match before rolling on the floor in hysterical fits of laughter. That’s how Adalyn and Stacy met. Everyone should have a Stacy in their life; brash and foul mouthed and funny and supportive. Stacy’s other best friend is Ian. He’s that guy that everyone wants based on his outward appearance yet he is so much deeper than that.
Adalyn can be a hard person to know. “Did you know that there is no job that exists out there where you get to call the shots and boss people around without actually being the boss?” She is the girl with the tragic past who has built up walls upon walls so you just don’t get to know the real her. I actually had a hard time connecting with her after her initial introduction. I, honestly, like Stacy more. UNTIL, I was able to understand what made Adalyn tick. Adalyn admits that she has unhealthy ways of coping and knows how she appears. Ian, Ian, Ian. The patience of a saint, the looks of a god and he has never met an enemy. He’s dated the city’s elite, has a nasty ex and is willing to put up with Adalyn’s behavior because he can see behind the walls.
I felt many emotions for this book and my compassion for Adalyn grew as I got deeper into the story. At one point, I almost put it down and I’m so glad I didn’t. Although I didn’t read it in one sitting, I was able to pick right back up where I left off without having to go back. This is the first book I’ve purchased from Jenn Hype and I look forward to reading more in the series.

This is my first read by this author and I have mixed feelings about this book. Adalyn was way over the top to me when she first met Ian and many times in the book. Her language and actions were just rude and childish so many times. As the story progressed and her and Ian’s relationship grew, she became a more likable character to me and I was drawn into her story. All in all I liked the story and would read more books in the series.
Conflicted on this one
This was a tough one to review…I liked this book, didn’t love it, I was torn…I had a tough time figuring out how to even start it…Adalyn and Ian…they are an interesting couple, but felt more like friends than lovers. Adalyn’s past, her huge secret, that had such a large impact on her life, felt like an afterthought to Ian’s story….when Adalyn’s story is FAR more traumatic and compelling, yet somehow, Ian’s story takes over, his feelings take center stage, and Adalyn’s backstory becomes less central and more “also ran”
As I said, didn’t love it, liked the supporting characters enough to want to read more about Stacy…..as well as a couple plot threads that SEEMED important, but just went nowhere, hopefully they’ll be picked up in subsequent books…but Ian and Adalyn, right now, feel more like really good friends to me
This is overall a good book. I will say I was very agitated the with Adalyn and wish it had given us some in light as to why she was so mean. I was almost ready to stop reading bc it was so ridiculous with how she acted. The ending was good and if you can hang in there you will eventually get Adalyn’s story
