To keep her alive and get her out of their hair, Coco’s mother agrees to marry her off to her worst enemy. Once married to Tucker, her ex-crush and the ex-boyfriend of her older sister, Coco and her new husband move to Terra II to start a new life. However, life with Tucker is not what Coco thought it would be and she begins to feel she would have been better off on crumbling Earth. Suddenly Terra II is taken over by two feuding alien clans who destroy Terra II and enslave the inhabitants as their war wages on. Coco finds herself a slave of the alien clan lead by Leofric.
This is the first book in a two-part series, so this book ends on a cliffhanger. I wanted to like this novel so bad, however Coco made me want to reach into this book and slap the snot out of her. I stopped trying to understand her logic and reasoning after her first escape and capture from Leofric. I felt Leofric’s high ranking females were correct when they continually implied Coco was more trouble than she was worth. I do not know how Leofric forgave her for what she did at the end of this book. There were some steamy scenes in the novel. The writing was solid, however the character of Coco really agitated me. I could get past the strange customs of the alien clans and the insanity of some of the female Earth slaves. After finishing this novel, I made an attempt to read the second novel in the series, but I did not finish it.
An interesting and dark, intense read. I found I had to keep reading to see how Coco and Leofric react to each other and learn to trust each other. I am anxious to read the second book to see what happens.
. . . I received an arc. Loved this book and wanting the next. All of Enid’s reads are great.
It has been quite a while since I have read such a enjoyable, well-paced, intriguing alien romance & it is a splendid start to a new series. The characters are well-developed & interesting with believable reactions to the situations they find themselves in. The plot is interesting & it captures the reader’s attention within the first few pages.
There is: a conniving mother manipulates her daughter (Cosima) into a marriage with a rich but dull man (Tucker) then a alien invasion occurs & the leader (King Leofric) of the invading aliens (clan Lammas) demands Cosima as his tribute naturally she is not too impressed with this idea & is quite defiant, twists & turns, drama, action, adventure, intrigue, humans, various kinds of aliens, manipulations, insults, threats, frustration, invasion, humiliation, slavery, defiance, attempted escape, punishment, strange attractions, emotional turmoil, clan rivalry, deceit, betrayal, violence, conflict, vengeful feelings, devious intentions & steamy scenes, although this alien romance has a HFN ending there is a cliffhanger & I look forward to the next book with great anticipation.
