BLACK SOUL, SUFFOCATING IN SILENCESeverus: incubus, escort–leech. After centuries of scorn in the underworld, Severus settled amongst the secret demon community in Farrow’s Hollow. Located near a hell-gate, the city allows him to live on Earth without sacrificing his supernatural abilities, but as with all incubi, he must take the life essence of humans to survive.Working as an escort, Severus … survive.
Working as an escort, Severus has been able to keep himself satiated. Night after night, he sees the same thing: human women searching for surrender, for a connection, for love. He caters to them, steals from them, not realizing he’s desperate for all the same things.
BLUE EYES, WATCHING HER WORLD FADE AWAY
Moira Aurelia: grad student, ice cream connoisseur–unable to look in a mirror. Not anymore. Because when she does, she no longer sees herself. The person, the creature, staring back isn’t her. It can’t be.
Eyes, hair, skin. Nothing is the same as it once was, and no one can tell her why. While terrified of the lack of control she has over her own body, Moira finds herself getting stronger, too, her senses sharper.
After failing to find answers, a frustrated Moira goes after the one thing she can control: her sex life. Twenty-three and still unable to have a satisfying climax, she schedules an evening with Russ Tanner, male escort, and crosses her fingers for fireworks.
LIGHT AND DARK COLLIDE–DESPERATE TO CONNECT
But the night takes a turn from the moment they meet.
Severus is bewitched and befuddled by the otherworldly creature seeking his services–a woman completely immune to his demonic charms. Meanwhile, Moira finds herself face-to-face with a man who can handle her newfound strength–and wears his dark stare and sinful smile like a second skin.
Two lonely creatures grapple with the undeniable pull between them.
Desperate for answers, the demon pursues her–unaware that he isn’t the only predator to have caught her scent.
PREDATOR is the first novella in THE HUNT, a paranormal romance serial. It contains coarse language, graphic heat, and a very mild cliffhanger. The Hunt is considered a continuous story containing one novella and three novels, and should be read in order:
PREDATOR (#1)
PREY (#2)
STALKER (#3)
KILLER (#4)
more
Oooooph… this one really sets up an interesting premiss. This is a world so like our own, that it would explain a few things, perhaps. 😉
It’s one of those books that gets you dying to see what happens next. It’s well-written, the story seems to flow effortlessly from Miss Meldon’s pen, which makes reading it effortless as well. I would have liked a bit more background on Severus, as the “black soul, suffocating in silence” header didn’t quite come off, but I reckon that was saved for later volumes. Moira is so relatable it’s scary… I would react the same to a great many things. It made me hope all will work out for her, but I suspect she’ll have to wade through hell before that happens, which incidentally makes for great stories!!
This quick little gem introduces us to a supernatural world that exists beside our own that most of us mere humans believe is nothing more than fantasy. But in this world, all the creatures that go bump in the night are real, including demons, witches, vampires, and angels. Severus is an incubus, a demon of lust. He’s come to terms with what he is and how most of his fellow demons view him. Moira is a college student who’s once perfectly healthy body has betrayed her. Nothing in her world is the same anymore. When these two meet, loads of questions come crashing to the surface. I’m loving these characters. I’m loving the intrigue around Moira’s ancestry. And after the way this ends, I can’t wait to read the next book.
This book might be short, but it packs a lot of punch into those pages. Great introduction to the series, I can’t wait to read more. Very well written. Reminded me of the show Supernatural, which I love… Winner!
I first picked up these books because I needed something different from my usual reading routine. Well written, well paced, and interesting, but it is incredibly short.
Moira is a 23 year old college student. She’s been living a normal life and one thing everything started to change. Moira has a feeling something is going on but can’t pinpoint what exactly is the cause of everything.
Severus is an incubus and male escort. He’s lived a life of solitude and all of that changes once he meets Moira who he has an instant and strong reaction to which is very rare for a demon.
I have to say I love the first encounter with Severus and Moira so much! You could cut the sexual tension with a stick! I really enjoyed this novella by Liz Meldon. I haven’t read too many paranormal books containing incubuses and demons. So this was a delighted change in the paranormal front. In this short story the author was able to keep me engaged the whole time I was reading and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
A great start of a new series by the author and as usual had to read until the end. A succubus escort and a grad student who is not what she seems. It is not a typical romance story but has plenty of character to entertain anyone. Unfortunately it is not a complete standaline novel and is fairly short and has a cliffhanger.
A MUST READ!!!
An awesome, riveting, easy to follow read with twists and turns that add a whole different meaning to the phrase otherworldly. This read will keep your total and complete focus to each page as if you’ll miss a word. Its a wild ride with no sudden stops. A read with vast and all consuming scenes so hot, you’ll wish you were in Antarctica. Liz’s talent in detail is so smooth it completely mesmerizes the reader.
I’ve had the pleasure of reading several of this author’s contemporary romances and loved them all, but she absolutely blew me away with this paranormal romance. Technically, this one isn’t as simple as a romance. Don’t get me wrong – given the sexy Severus is an incubus, there is steam, but Meldon gives us just the tip of the romantic iceberg in this intro to The Hunt series. The attraction is certainly there between Severus and Moira, even though neither of them understand it, but there’s also suspense surrounding Moira, including an interesting twist along the way. The book is easily read in one sitting, which is a good thing because I couldn’t put it down, the characters are fantastic, and we even get some chuckle-worthy wit to keep things light. From past experience, I knew the author’s talent for leaving a reader cursing and desperately searching for even one more page, so I expected it. But Wow! While it’s not exactly an earth-shattering cliffy, there are certainly questions and this reader is not so patiently waiting for the next addition to the series.
