This is a Dark, I mean really dark romance book that you won’t be able to put down. I’m a big fan of Chelsea Cameron but have never read Ryan Michelle work before. I typically don’t like books where the woman is kidnapped by a butt face and she ends up falling in love with the butt face anti-hero. And boy, Onyx was a real piece of work and I don’t mean that as a compliment. Torryn disliked him but was also attracted to him but I for the life of me couldn’t figure out WHY??!!! I got that he had a horrible childhood but still, he could be ridiculously cruel. Yet as the book progressed you definitely feel there’s a real person who is really vulnerable and has feelings, he just doesn’t know what to do with them.
I really liked Torryn, Onyx was super scary but she still didn’t let him break her and I liked that she was fiercely loyal to her sister. Even when she found herself super in lust with him, she tried to fight it and knew she should resist, which made the plot feel more realistic and made me admire her more, if that makes sense.
There are a couple of plot twists at the end that seemed pretty far fetched to me but I was so enthralled with the characters I didn’t care. Can’t wait to read the next book!
PowerHouse (Power Chain #1) by Chelsea Camaron and Ryan Michele is a different and unique kind of romance. It is a little raw and shows the dark side of a man who has made his life along with his most trusted friends and people live in fear. He is used to taking what he wants and anyone be damned to stand in his way. The writing is clever and engaging and I loved to hate the a*hole of main character in this story. Just when you thought you knew where the story was going, the authors took a jump and a twist and pulled you along to a completely new way.
I look forward to reading more.
When I read the description I said ‘Ooohhh.’ Then I saw ‘going darker than ever before’ at the end of the description I said ‘Yes, Please’…well, let’s be completely honest, when I saw Ryan Michele was starting a new series with Chelsea Camaron (and author I haven’t yet read but have on my TBR list) I said Yes. Please. The ‘going darker’ simply had me making grabby hands at the book and I devoured PowerHouse. It had my brain feeling like with was playing a weird mix of Jai Alai and Frogger (I know, wonky, but go with it) as I did my best to keep up with the cray cray going on with Onyx and Torryn, but I devoured every word until there were no more words to read.
So, the whole Onyx and Torryn making my brain hurt with their crazy has me in a strange spot with them because while I didn’t absolutely love them, I was fascinated by them and their reasons for doing things, or not, and their reactions. I swear I’m still trying to process it all. But what I had to give them major kudos for was they were 1) Absolutely honest with themselves, even when they argued with themselves and 2) They were determined to get their way ~ whether they did or not…well, you have to read the book to find out.
Now for their relationship…when it comes to dark romance anything goes and the smexy between them was nuclear, and they never denied it, but the whiplash was real between these two. It made for an interesting ride, an extremely hot, don’t bother with wearing panties because they will simply self destruction once these two get going ride, but a very interesting one and while I still question the sanity of their love, I can’t deny that they are definitely meant for each other.
I kinda feel as if my review is more random and verbal vomit-y than my norm, but that’s what the book did to me. It got me all kinds of key’d up and it’s a testament to the author’s creativity. The writing was engaging, seamless and well paced and I enjoyed the dual 1st person POV. The setting of the story was quite interesting because you have that moment where you think you know what’s going on, only to realize that you have no clue whatsoever and when it’s all revealed, it’s actually kind of a mindfuck, a good one, but still a mindfuck. I did have one of my “Wait. What…seriously’ moments towards the end, and yes in the midst of all the crazy, I had one that brought me up short and I still have an issue with, but it didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment of the book. And as for the secondary characters…there are three I really, REALLY, want to know more about soooooo bring on the next in the series!

Wow, just wow I couldn’t put this story down, something completely different, and it had me hooked from page one. I was just amazed at the story itself, the way the characters are written really drew me in and how the story unfolded right before my eyes was something really truly amazing and great. Onyx I really love that name, is this alpha who is alpha of all, he’s strong, mean and down right nasty at times he knows what he wants and takes what he wants at any cost. He is by far my fav character ever written. Torryn shes this strong headed women that’s an alpha all herself, a fighter, loving and one hell of a woman; the prefect match for Onyx. The couple together is really a power and chemistry you don’t want to mix in. Together they are the prefect couple. They made this story what is and made you crave more by the end. Truly an amazing story I can’t wait for the next. MUST READ.
***I received this ARC for free in exchange for my honest thoughts, I in no way was told what to write its all me, myself and I***

After finishing this book, I had to step way before reviewing so that I could give a better rounded review then what my feelings were after reading it. This book was COMPLETELY DIFFERENT then I was expecting.
When I read the prequel (Power Chain) and then the blurb for this book, I thought I was going to read a story about four men, a family, involved in organized crime or the like. I thought this was an ensemble book, the four men rulers of the dark side of life. I thought it was going to be dark, gritty, and edgy and a few parts were. Power Chain (to me) had a different feel then this story so my expectations were off.
What I read was the story of Onyx, being an a** (later becoming a hot alpha) and Torryn, a woman who would not back down to him. The first half of the story was slow and was basically just the two of them with sporadic interactions. I thought the build up was sort of bland and sluggish. The second half of the story was were al the action and passion came in. It read to me almost like two seperate stories. The characters were amazing and I could feel and see everything thorough the authors descriptions; like the whiteness of Onyx’s house.
The major plot and Onyx’s business was NOT what I was expecting and I almost put the book down because I was dissapointed. There was also a plot line near the end that turned me off, it just seemed over the top and added for sock
value. It might have ruined the story for me had it taken up more if the plot then it did. It was brief enough that I could dismiss/ignore it and move on.
All that being said…
Onyx stole my affections and became an amazing character. He was strong but caring and willing to do what it took for Torryn. I even loved Torryn at the end. Their HEA was amazing. These two authors work so well together and the story flowed so well. As I read the last page I found myself forgiving the authors for the choices that I previously did not care for, and wanting to one-click book two immediately.
So… not what I expected or what I thought I wanted but thoroughly enjoyed none the less. I cannot wait for the other mens stories.
PowerHouse is book one in the PowerChain series. I really enjoyed this book and had a difficult time putting it down. This book moves fast and keeps you wanting to keep turning the pages. I personally would struggle to find a stopping point if I had to close it for any reason. This book is a little bit on the darker side. I would suggest reading the free prequel before hand. I read it after and it would have helped understand a few things if I would have read it before. At the time that I got the prequel on Amazon it was free. For those that are sensitive readers, this book may not be for you. When the book first starts, you get a glimpse at the violence in Onyx Blake. I was really expecting a much darker a story from the description, and while there was a few dark spots overall it wasn’t that dark in my opinion.
Onyx was dumped off at birth and stuck in an orphanage until he became old enough to leave. While in the orphanage he became close with 3 other boys and they made a plan of how their life was going to go after they were able to leave. And the four of them were determined to be successful, and they were that. Onyx is dealing with a client and his wife and things aren’t going very smoothly and the sister barges in, in the middle of her own little crisis. Onyx sees her and is interested right from the get go, but she has no interest in him regardless of his looks. Nobody dismisses Onyx and he makes a snap decision to take the sister as collateral. Don’t want to give anything away, so you have to read if you want more then that.
The characters were mostly enjoyable– there were numerous times I wished I could have smacked Onyx. He could be a real jerk, at first I didn’t enjoy his character, he was just too much of an a$$, but then as he spent time around Collateral AKA Torryn, he started mellowing out, but the jerk side would resurface. Once you get beyond that, there was good chemistry between the characters. I did like how strong Torryn was, they needed that to balance out the alpha and jerk that is Onyx. I think the authors did a great job of setting the stage for the stories in the book, and can’t wait to see how Paxton’s story unfolds, since you get a minor sneak peak of the beginning of his story in the last chapter. Hope this helps! Happy Reading!!!
This powerhouse author duo (pun intended) have given us one powerful gut wrenching read.
Suspenseful, twisted and explosive get ready for a devilishly dirty and sinfully delicious treat!!
Fast paced and well written, this books got me hooked from beginning to end. The story flowed nicely with unexpected twists and turns. The story build up where you think it’s going in one direction and BOOM something else happens.
Strong badass characters who gave as good as they took. They were meant to be anti-heros but that made them more appealing. The chemistry between the main characters was sultry and intriguing.
Mindfuckery at its best!
I loved Collateraland Oynx amazing chemistry. It as and edgy cant put it down read.from start to finish.Cant wait till the next book.
Intriguing
Wow! This book gives you the before story of how Onyx, Paxton, Garrett and Dane had to live in an Amish orphanage and how it shaped them to be the men they are today.
A twisted dark read that will leave you almost speechless and mind blown. Wow! Well written and fast paced. Was hooked from the start. Onyx and Torryn meet in the most unusual circumstances, he wants her while she fights him. He’s the kind of character you have a love/hate relationship with, a payback’s a bit** one. The chemistry between them is intense and like a fireball. Definitely not your typical romantic alpha male story. Loved it!!! I voluntarily reviewed this advanced readers copy of this book.
