I have mixed feelings on this book. A big part of me would love to believe that this is completely true, the way it is supposed to be, but if that were the case, why is there so much sickness? I work in the medical field, and have done so for more than 25 years, and I am a devoted Christian. I also know that the disciples were healing after Christ ascended. I guess part of my questioning comes in with being unsure if this ability to heal was only for the 12 disciples after Pentecost, and not meant for ‘everyone who believes” after that time. I have this question because of my field of work, my life experiences, as well as many, many others.
Author quotes “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28: 19-20). Clark, Randy (2015-04-01). Power to Heal: Keys to Activating God’s Healing Power in Your Life (p. 7). Destiny Image, Inc.. Kindle Edition. This says to “observe all things that I have commanded you.” It does not state to go do what I have done. The commands are to love one another, in addition to the 10. This is my understanding.
Later, author quotes (John 14:12). “In fact, He tells us that we will do even greater works than He did. When Jesus says greater, I believe He means that the works we do in His name in the power of the Holy Spirit will be greater in size and scope because He [Jesus] is no longer on the earth restricted to a single human body. He now lives in each one of us. Clark, Randy (2015-04-01). Power to Heal: Keys to Activating God’s Healing Power in Your Life (p. 9). But then next, the author states “The Spirit could not indwell sinful humanity because He needed a compatible vessel in order to take up habitation. This is why Jesus was the only one fit to have the Spirit come upon Him and remain.” Clark, Randy (2015-04-01). Power to Heal: Keys to Activating God’s Healing Power in Your Life (p. 10). Destiny Image, Inc.. Kindle Edition. (see John 1:33 “I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’)
This is the full statement: John 14:12-15 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. “Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
To use the author’s view “The Spirit could not indwell sinful humanity because He needed a compatible vessel in order to take up habitation.” What has changed? I do feel the book is worth reading, this is how we learn, in my opinion, and I have taken a different perspective with regard to some things he states. Limited length of review so will stop with the biggest issue I had pretty much in the beginning. I truly do wish the “power to heal” was working as this book implies.
Increases your faith to truly believe for the impossible, because that is the kind of God we serve.
An interesting look at the gift of healing, but not one of the most engaging books I have read on this subject.
Randy Clark knows what he is talking about. He has had a lot of experience and He is not only spiritual but also scriptually sound. The book helps you to understand that God heals and that He is also willing to heal you personally. Highly recommend for all Christians at any level of faith.
An powerful, clear and balanced exposition of biblical healing and its place in todays church life
Randy Clark is the world’s foremost authority on Christian healing, both from a theological and a experiential perspective. Big words but it is true. Randy’ s teaching is direct, scholarly yet practical. I know Randy personally and he lives what he writes with humility. Read everything Randy writes and you will be empowered to be God’s hands and feet for the healing of others .
