Hockey players are off limits especially … if they’re on your brothers’ team. The last time Jordan did that, it ended in disaster. It was easy to promise her brothers she’d never date another one of their teammates again.Until she meets Jake. The spark she feels when she spends time with him makes her promise harder and harder to keep.Surely her brothers would understand breaking this promise if … understand breaking this promise if it means following her heart.
Wouldn’t they?
Never sleep with a teammate’s sister.
This is the universal rule of athletes everywhere.
Until he meets Jordan. As soon as Jake sets eyes on her, he wants her.
The goalie’s job is to see missed shots and failed opportunities on the ice.
This is one shot he’s not going to miss, no matter what obstacles get in his way.
POWER PLAY is a flirty, swoon worthy sexy rom-com and the first book in the BTU Alumni series. It can be read as a stand alone. If you like hockey boys, sarcastic friends, matchmaking K9’s, too-cute-to-handle kindergarteners, fierce heroines and swoony hot as puck Alpha heroes, then you want to get to know these cast of characters. One puck head and a HEA guaranteed.

I love sport romance, and this one didn’t disappoint me. Jake and Jordan are the perfect characters!
The chemistry between them is palpable, and I was sure she couldn’t keep the promise of not dating again one of her bothers’ teammates. The story is funny and entertaining, romantic and with enough suspense to keep you reading until the end. They are also very credible characters.
Looking forward to reading the next books of this series!
Jordan transferring to BTU after two years at NYU, two years where she hid from her past. Jake is the goalie for the BTU Hockey team and plays with two of Jordan’s brothers. The attractions is instant when they see each other, too bad Jordon promised to never date another one of her brother’s teammates.
Jordan and Jake are the ultimate relationship goal! I loved the instant attraction between these two, but they had so many hurdles to overcome in order to be together. The friendship groups that belong to both Jordan and Jake are awesome as well, and provide great entertainment. This book is absolutely amazing, and the audiobook just adds to the story.
Book 1 in a Sports romcom series with sexy hockey players. Jordan has transferred to BYU. She is closer to her brothers and friends. It’s been two years and there is a new face in the crowd. Jake is a good buy, great with his little sister, likes dogs, sexy and sweet. He is also a teammate of her brothers. Which puts him in the friend zone. The last time she dated a teammate, it ended in disaster. The friend zone can’t work when the chemistry is sizzling. The characters are totally relatable and easy to like. There is some fun and drama. Some of the scenes were a little confusing with quick changes of characters. However, this was a debut and still a strong showing.
I enjoyed this book and yes I’ve read all the others in this series before this one, which was a total accident but I think the other books helped me see Jordan in a more mature light and helped me get to know her better. I loved the siblings were very protective and close to each other, even if the boys took it overboard at times they were funny and entertaining to watch. I loved Jake because he wasn’t made into this womanizer who turns straight laced, no he was all around an amazing guy that knew exactly what he wanted and never deviated from going after her, Jordan. In this book Jordan was strong but played on this brave I’m one of the guys persona so she wouldn’t let people see how much she had been hurt in the past and at times it was a tad annoying, but she also showed it was ok to move forward and everyone loved her. I love the Coventtes and this group of friends but at times in this book their constant worrying over what to wear, party, drinking games, etc. was too much for me and kind of distracted me from the underlying storyline because it seemed to happen every other page and the constant recaps from both main characters was a little too much at times. Overall it’s a good read and I was happy to see familiar faces.
I read the authors U of J series and fell in love with her story telling. So, when the opportunity to read this book I jumped on it. And I am so glad I did!!
I realize this book came out before U of J, but her story telling was on point from the beginning!! The author makes you want to be part of the crew and has away of drawing you in. With their witty banter, undeniable tension, and drama I couldn’t get enough of Jordan and Jake. The forbidden sister, college, hunky hockey guys, and drama I couldn’t have asked for more!!
Jordan made a promise to her brother’s a couple years ago that she would not date another one of their teammates, because when things with her last relationship went array it had a ripple effect on their team too. But she knows the moment her eyes catch their new goalie Jake that she is going to have a problem keeping her promise. He is not only handsome, but he is also the boy that literally lives next door and he has a Transformer addiction to rival hers.
When his five year old little sister teams up with her five year old brother and they try to work the matchmaking magic on these two they know they are not the only ones to realize the deep connection they have. But getting involved could wreak havoc on both of their lives… and break so many rules!
Between the pages of Power Play you will meet a couple that are pretty much forbidden to date in the eyes of those around them, a relationship between them could cause a lot of problems. But once their hearts get involved they can’t seem to find a reason to stay away from one another. It’s their younger siblings matchmaking skills that initially bring them together, but it’s their bond over transformers and television shows that makes them realize it’s destiny… well that and their undeniable attraction to one another. Watching these two try and keep their hands off one another and stay loyal to the rules of the team was torturous at times, but also quite entertaining. I loved their interactions with one another and the slow build between them, their chemistry was off the charts! I love sports romances and this one came brimming with everything I crave and more; it was passionate, emotional, steamy, and so good for the heart! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
*Contains no spoilers* where do I even begin? If you love sports romance, brothers best friend, sexy men, characters that you want to be friends with in real life and the cutest 5 year old siblings then this is the book for you. Alley had me on the edge of my seat at moments, swooning over the guys and laughing till tears were running down my eyes. Her characters are very relatable and I can see myself in them especially since both the main character and I have how I met your mother ringtones. The chemistry between Jake and Jordan is H-O-T!
Be sure to follow our favorite BTU characters on instagram, it only makes you fall more in love with them and give some good laughs. Alley’s writing gives us points of view from both main characters throughout the book which is great because when reading I am often wondering how the other character might reAct to a situation and in Power Play, The author provides that.
bravo! I can’t wait for more
Alley writes probably my favourite female characters ever. They are always extremely awesome. Strong, independent, hilarious, & somewhat of a tomboy I love them. Jordan was no different. Plus she always has awesome male characters too that equally match their women. Jake was so sweet, caring, loving, strong & protective. I really liked this BTU crew. I’m looking forward to the rest of the books in this series. The only thing I wasn’t a huge fan of was the POV’s in this book & some of the time over laps. Otherwise it was a really enjoyable read.
Literally Jordan and Jake are an amazing couple. His love and devotion for her is something you want from a partner. This story I wasn’t sure where it was going. You know Jordan and Jake want to date but her brothers forbid it. But Jordan is not one to listen, so that makes this story the romance you want. But if the brothers demand Jordan to stay away from Jake will this keep them apart or make them say, no way and be together like they deserve.
Alley’s writing is phenomenal. She is fun, keeps you completely engaged from the first page you read. This is the first book of several from her. She is awesome and I cannot wait to read so much more of her books.
Power Play is the debut novel by Alley Ciz and the first novel in the BTU Alumni Series which can be read as a standalone or as the beginning of the BTU Alumni Series and is told from the third-person point of view.
Jordan has made a promise to her two extremely overprotective brothers that she will never date another one of their teammates again after things go horribly wrong. When Jake meets Jordan he knows that she is the one for him but the only problem is, she is the sister of his teammates which means she is off-limits. Jake and Jordan have so much in common and are continually drawn to each other. Jake is determined to make not only Jordan but Ryan and Jase see that they are meant to be together no matter the past or who they are.
Power Play was my first novel by Alley Ciz and I will for sure be reading the rest of the BTU Alumni series. I especially loved the close friendships in the novel as they reminded me of my group of friends. I am not a huge fan of the slow burn romance but everything else about the novel made up for that little fact. I totally recommend this novel to everyone and look forward to the next BTU Alumni book.
This was my first time reading Alley. I love hockey romances so I was looking forward to these. It was fast paced and had a little bit of everything – humor, angst, nail biting action and lots of swoon.
Jake knew Jordan was different as soon as he laid eyes on her. She was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. Finding out she was his best friends sister, should have stopped his feelings, but they didn’t! Now if only he could make her see that they belonged together.
Jordan’s brothers had one rule…don’t date anyone on the team. Would that rule get broken after she met Jake? How long could she avoid their connection to honor her brothers wishes? Would she allow her heart to have a say?
It was a cute, brothers best friend romance. I liked how their relationship took time to evolve, it made it feel real. It took a little getting used to both characters having overlapping stories, but sometimes it was nice to get both sides. I am looking forward to continuing the series!
This book and author is a first for me and I’m glad I read it. This book is part of a series.
BTU Alumni series. #1 power play.
This is the author’s debut book and it feels like she’s been writing a long time already.
This book is a slow burn sports romance novel between to people who know that they actually shouldn’t act on their feelings.
Jordan has just transferred so she can be near her brothers. Her very over protective brothers that is. She is a very strong, sexy, sweet and beautiful woman. But she’s dealing with alot though.
Jake is a strong and sexy hockey player and a really good guy who you’d like to meet.
They have a strong connection and sparks fly between each , because of the attraction.
Jake and Jordan are great together they have alot of chemistry but are both trying to deny their feelings for one and other. Jordan made a promise to her brothers not to date any of the team mates.
It’s so hard to find someone you like but can’t do anything about.
I really liked these characters and I loved the thought of them together. The author has written them beautifully and really brought them to life. This story has humour and fun while also being quite emotional whilst dealing with other things.
I found the third person points of view sometimes difficult and sometimes you are reading the same scene but from a different perspective, a tad confusing and because it repeated alot.
Some parts of this book really hit home with me, the book grabs a hold of you and you can’t put it down, it’s a fast paced, flirty fun read and a complete page turner. This book is well written and is emotional in parts and deals with some real life issues that real people have dealt with.
I can’t wait to read more from this author in the future especially the second book in this series.
Thank you to the author and publishers for allowing me to read a copy of this book.
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
This book is out now and I will be recommending this book to everyone.
I actually read the second book (Tap Out) first and loved it so much I had to read this one. The characters and story are fantastic. I want to be a part of the group. : ) I can’t wait for ALL the characters to have stories.
I seriously loved this book. It’s my first by this author but won’t be my last. Everyone needs a Jake in their life. They need a Jordan too cause the girl is awesome.
Some drama happened with Jordan in the past and because of it she promised her two brothers that she wouldn’t date another guy from their team now that she’s moving back from NYU. She didn’t think it was going to be a problem, but that was before she met Jake .
Jake plays for BTU and thinks his teammates brother is transferring. They always say, JD and it was Jase’s twin so he naturally thought it was a guy. When Jordan shoes up and is introduced as JD things get complicated. Even though she’s the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen, his teammates, her brothers, made it clear she off limits.
Their connection and chemistry is there from the start and even though they both try, they can’t deny what is. But with the promise Jordan made to her brothers they can’t take the chance of them finding out before they even know where it’s going. Jordan’s past also comes back with a vengeance and puts a strain on things. But one I said. You can’t deny it, and everyone needs. Jake in their lives.
This is a book I highly recommend. I loved every word and can’t wait to read the rest.
Never ever having read a romance about Hockey or YA I was a little nervous. From the get go I need not have worried.
Alley settled my nerves straight away as I started reading and getting to know the characters the interaction of this wonderful group of friends.
The friendship and the love that unfolds between Jake and Jordan made me sigh laugh giggle like the girl I once was at the same age.
The frustration of Jordan sticking to the silly pact she made with her brothers You never date a guy on their team”
Yeah right Alley Ciz’s first Novel , I wouldn’t have thought so, but that being said I’m so looking forward to reading the stories of the friends that surround Jake and Jordan in their search of each other in this Sports Hockey Love adventure.
#first rule in love…. throw the rule book out.
Read how Jake & Jordan fight their growing attraction and hide it from friends and family only to discover True love can’t be hidden
Thank you Alley Ciz for allowing me to be welcomed into the world of BTU Alumni Power Play and e everything that comes with it
Wow….Jake & Jordan’s book just was WOW. I loved the instant chemistry between them! There was no way they could’ve ignored it! The added forbiddenness (gotta love made up words) of the best friends sister/brothers teammate made it even more intriguing!
My one complaint was the repetitiveness of scenes from both of their perspectives. It made the story drag just a touch. Other than that it was amazing & I really loved it!
Getting the opportunity to read the BTU series by Alley Ciz was like a dream come true. I have read the first two books previously, but now I am re-reading them as I make my way to the newest BTU – Sweet Victory.
Power Play is Alley’s debut novel and this book knocks it out of the park! The book focuses on the story of Jordan and Jake and I have to say, it is EVERYTHING!
Jake is the starting goalie for the BTU hockey team. Jordan is the sister of two of his teammates, Ryan and Jase. Jordan made a promise that she would never date one of their teammates after what happened a couple years prior. We get glimpses of why this promise was made throughout the book, while eventually getting the full story of what happened. The attraction between them is undeniable, even with Jake thinking Jordan is a boy based on how her brothers talk about her. Jordan and her best friend have decided to transfer to BTU from NYU after a couple of years since the college now offers a better program for the degree they are wanting.
As Jordan immerses herself into her brother’s world once again, we see the protectiveness of her brothers at its finest. She is still very much attracted to Jake, but her promise to her brothers keeps her from moving forward with anything except friendship. Jake can’t help but want more but as he gets more of a glimpse into her past, he works with what he can.
When Jordan’s past becomes her present, her brothers become more and more protective of her, and Jake also takes on the role of protector, while also becoming caretaker for her. His tenderness for her is breathtakingly beautiful and I can’t help but fall in love with him even more as the story continues.
I don’t want to give too much away, but this book has it all. Strong heroine, swoonworthy hero, storyline that keeps you turning the page needing to know what happens. The only thing I can find that wasn’t to my like was that the story was too interwoven. I never knew what character was being focused on. I would have liked a little heading when the character perception changed but all in all, it didn’t make it a bad read, just a little personal preference for how I would have liked it.
Sports Romance novels are my jam. I love them. This book ‘Power Play’ by Alley Ciz was meant for me – I absolutely loved it. Jordan transfers to BTU to be closer to her hockey playing brothers and her best friend Skye. Unbeknownst to her, Jake has been stalking her on social media and is smitten. The attraction between the two is high and their chemistry undeniable. The two fall and fall hard for one another and man is it swoon worthy. This book has it all – hockey goodness, overprotective well meaning older brothers, BFF goals, forbidden attraction and slow burn goodness. Add this book to your TBR list now. (I read an ARC and voluntarily left a review).
Wow what a fantastic debut from new author Alley Ciz!
Power play was awesome. It sucked me in from the start because anyone who knows me knows that I love strong heroines and that’s exactly what Jordan is.
I loved the hero and heroine Jake and Jordan but I also loved the secondary characters, they weren’t just there. They had a role to play and I loved the bond between best friends and family members.
Alley Ciz had me hooked trying to second guess what was going to happen as there was a slight mystery going on in the book.
Well done Alley, a fantastic first book.
I recommend this read to anyone who loves sports romance, a strong heroine and a swoony hero.
Great details. Average writing.
