From Kennedy L. Mitchell comes a sexy, romantic drama about an unruly, headstrong agent and the witty, stubborn woman he’s assigned to protect. Can these two set aside their hate for the other and work together to win it all? I’m in over my head, failing in their power games I don’t understand. One day I wasn’t sure I could pay the water bill for my trailer; now I’m wearing red-soled heels and … I’m wearing red-soled heels and sipping champagne, acting like I belong.
Everyone hates me. I’m alone in this hostile world until… him.

Power Games is the first book in the five-book Power Play series. Each book cannot be read as a standalone. This one started off in my opinion with bullying that I couldn’t tolerate and I wondered how was this book even going to be readable?! Then it did a complete 360 and I couldn’t put it down. Trey and Randi had a banter and a chemistry that was undeniably thru the roof. She was nothing what he expected and she was no ones doormat and no where close to being submissive. Randi did things at the root of her own horn consequences be damned. She’s strong and her upbringing and how she turned out is admirable but others didn’t see it that way. They never acknowledged that she actually became something but constantly reminded her that she was trailer trash. Trey wasn’t your average secret service agent. He was far from that; a trust fund baby that refused to be in politics like his powerful family. When he met Randi he was very judgmental until he saw who she really was. He couldn’t deny his feelings even though it was dangerous. Everything almost disappeared BUT things changed again and now things are different. I need book 2 because Randi doesn’t care about rules when it comes to her heart.
Utterly Thrilling!
This is going to be an absolutely amazing and utterly thrilling series! Book one is fast paced, suspenseful, full of intrigue and very sexy. The story had me completely enthralled, highly entertained and utterly captivated! With so many twists and turns and emotional ups and downs you didn’t want this story to end.
Randi is a smart, fierce, very witty and quirky woman. She had me in stitches throughout the story. I love her attitude towards life. So many of us would have given up and resigned ourselves to fate but not Randi. She is going to kick fate in the balls and move on!
Trey is one sexy alpha man who is assigned to Randi as her protection. Trey is not without his faults and sometimes his opinions are his downfall. Randi and Trey’s chemistry is mind-blowing and intense. Their banter is funny and sexy at the same time. I love these two together and I hope they can figure things out.
This was an amazing start to this new series. The characters and the storyline are phenomenally writing and exciting to read about. I can’t wait to read the next book as I need more of Randi’s quirkiness!
POWER PLAY is the first instalment in Kennedy L. Mitchell’s contemporary, adult POWER PLAY erotic, political romance series focusing on attorney / small town Mayor Randi Sawyer, and thirty-eight year old, Secret Service agent Trey Benson.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Trey and Randi) POWER PLAY sets the stage for the author’s five-part Power Play series. Randi Sawyer was born on the wrong side of the tracks to a mother whose addictions are destroying their lives. As a single mother of a teen-aged girl, Randi struggles to make ends meet until the day presidential hopeful, and the bane of Randi’s existence Kyle Birmingham makes Randi an offer she cannot refuse but an offer that comes with caveats. Seeing an opportunity, Randi makes a counter offer whereby our heroine will become the vice-presidential running mate to a man she disrespects and despises more than anyone could imagine. But..the counter-offer pushes aside another very powerful man, a man who is determined to destroy Randi’s life. With the run for office in full swing, Randi is assigned security, security that doesn’t want anything to do with our story line heroine. Enter former US soldier and Secret Service Agent Trey Benson, and the man with whom Randi will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Randi and Trey, as Randi battles the odds and Kyle Birmingham, on the way to the Oval Office.
Trey Benson has loved and lost. As a member of one Washington’s political elite families, Kyle refuses to follow in the family footsteps thereby relegating himself as the black sheep and outsider. Having seen his share of stuck up, snotty Washington posers, Kyle immediately paints Randi Sawyer with the same brush he paints most of the wanna-bes in political life but no one knows the real Randi, and Kyle is about to get a lesson in judgement he will never forget. Randi Sawyer is desperate to make good on a promise to her daughter, a promise that now comes with the possibility of hiding the truth about family and relationships. Once Randi accepts Kyle Birmingham’s offer, she finds herself tied to a man who holds all of the power, power that could very well destroy our heroine’s life.
The relationship between Trey and Randi begins acrimoniously as Trey struggles with everything Randi represents. Believing our heroine to be a cold-hearted women with aspirations of grandeur, Trey struggles with his attraction to Randi, an attraction that will find our couple battling between head and heart as the campaign begins to take an ominous turn. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Presidential hopeful Kyle Birmingham, and former running mate Shawn Whit; Randi’ daughter Taeler, and her father Ben; Randi’ mother; and Secret Service agents Tank and Gremlin.
POWER PLAY is a story of power and control; betrayal and vengeance; friendship, relationships and love. The character driven premise is intriguing, and fast paced; the characters are intelligent, wounded, powerful and animated; the romance is seductive and sensitive. POWER PLAY is story that makes your think about the what-ifs, and the current political situation playing out on the world stage. I will add that the use of a certain four-letter word, although not applied in the context of romance, is a bit of an issue for this particular reader.
Randi Sawyer, a small town lawyer struggling to make ends meet, has her life flipped upside down when her arch nemesis approaches her about joining forces. Trey Benson, secret service team leader, is tired of the Washington socialites he encounters, but might get more than he bargained for with his new assignment.
I held of starting this book for as long as I possibly could waiting for part 2 to come out because I HATE a cliff hanger, and this book definitely leaves you wanting more. Hot, protective secret service agent and a slightly unhinged politician in the making with amazing chemistry and witty banter make for an amazing pair. I can’t wait to get my hands on part 2 of Randi and Trey’s story.

Wow! I knew from the moment I started reading Power Play it was going to be a good book…I was wrong, it was absolutely incredible! The banter, attraction, chemistry, push and pull between Randi and Trey is exhilarating and I loved them together. This story has it all, wonderfully written characters, the storyline is gripping and captures your attention and does not let you go. It’s fast paced, filled with steamy scenes, and suspense and you have no idea what’s coming next. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series! This is a definite must read!
So after finishing Power Play I feel like I need maybe a gallon or so of wine & a weeks worth of Disney movies… (I’m kidding) .. No..No I’m not
Ya’ll from page one I was hooked…like leave me alone, make your own dinner HOOKED! This book was intense… jam packed full of all the suspense, chemistry, undeniable connections and all the political drama. SO GOOD! &&& THAT ENDING! Gah! Kennedy Mitchell must be trying to kill me because my book hangover has a hangover at this point and I regret nothing! Not even launching my kindle clear across the room… I’m pretty sure that I’ll need to invest in some bubble wrap for my kindle because this five book series surrounding Randi and Trey is just getting started and I’m here for it! Now if you’ll excuse my I’ve got a book hangover to take care of while I impatiently count the minutes until book two is out
The suspense and tension in Power Play by Kennedy L. Mitchell was incredible. And she kept it up from the very beginning to the last. It is a very different kind of romance set in the corrupt, twisted and powerful world of politics.
Randi and Trey are both very intense characters. They go all in and are very passionate about everything. Be it their career, be it the people the love and be it the people they hate. Randi has been trying to make a name for herself and remove the label society put on her for coming from a less than fortunate background. She is smart, intelligent, driven, persistent and hard working. But nothing helps to erase her insecurity, financial burden and over all the mess of her life. So when one of the most powerful politician aka enemy from the past comes knocking at her door seeking her help in his Presidential campaign, she takes it. And she bargains a Vice President candidacy! Even if it means selling her soul and voice and happiness.Special Agent Trey Benson thinks he has Randi all figured out. But as he spends time protecting her officially, he discovers the real woman behind this polished, fake and too perfect version. And so begins a story of true love filled with scintillating twists and turns. Conspiracies and backstabbing advisors will keep you glued to the pages. And you have no idea what is coming.
I liked Randi so hard! She has seen so many battles in her life and she is still fighting every day. She has pride, resilience and strength in spades. She is a little crazy and a lot flawed from “normal” point of view. And I love that about her! She has a wicked sense of humor and an impulsive side that’s adorable. She faced the sharks in the water and changed the direction like a boss. And Trey was with her at every step. Now he is a delicious treat. Ex army and present secret service agent, gorgeous body, arrogance and confidence in every move, a lot dominating, swoonworthy protector and every single mouth watering quality of the ultimate alpha man. And I am gone. Their relation starts with misunderstanding as Trey’s past bitter experience about political creeper made him judge Randi. But even their heated animosity was a turn on. They both find solace and comfort in each other as they change for better. The chemistry was downright super sexy and intensely captivating. The story beautifully mixed the electrifying chemistry and jaw dropping suspense. I will eagerly wait to know what happens next as a secret relation between them cannot go well.
Power Play by Kennedy L. Mitchell will take you right in the dark heart of politics. Deception and rivalry rule here right along with exceptions like Randi and Trey. Who refuse to play by the rules and rather make their own story. A thrilling, intriguing and swoonworthy beginning to an epic series.
Received ARC for Honest review.
Power Play is my first book by Kennedy Mitchell and it completely blew me away! The characters, storyline and all the angst deliver one hell of a book! Randi and Trey build their relationship from assumptions to having each other’s back and their story builds through out the book.
Having grown up on the wrong side of the tracks, Randi has not had an easy life. She could be jaded but yet she’s strong, she could have let life get her down but she held her head high and gave those that doubted her the middle finger and proved them wrong. Now in for the political fight of her life she has to learn to play the game yet stay true to herself. With Trey’s hell and the rest of her secret service team behind she fights and shows everyone who she is.
This is the first book in the series and gives the reader a glimpse into the corruption that goes on in the background politics. I can’t wait to see where this series takes us!
Kennedy Mitchell had me hooked from the very beginning. I was intrigued by Trey the moment he made his appearance in the opening pages. The chemistry between him and Randi is off the charts. The insults and banter between the two is so entertaining. I’m looking forward to their journey as Kennedy Mitchell leaves us wondering how Trey and Randi are gonna get to their HEA after the end of this book. I’m looking forward to more suspense and romance as this is a 5 book series following the couple. This is an epic political romance read that will have you consumed!
This is the first time I have read anything by this author and I LOVED it!!
Randi is a quirky, smart woman trying to do what she can to stay afloat. When the opportunity presents itself to go further than the Mayor of a small town she is hesitant due to who is asking her. She is tough! (Tougher than I would be for sure.)
I loved the characters in this book. Trey, T, hwr daughter. I can’t wait to see what happens next. There are so many different twist and turns.
I am ready for the next book asap!
Wow
This is my first book by kennedy and my God, I cant wait to read more, this had me hooked from the very first page, I was completely invested in the rollercoaster of emotions that this book took me on, the chemistry and banter was amazing, I couldn’t put it down.
Cant wait to read book 2
Great series if you’re into:
HEAT
Hilarious banter
Edge of your seat suspense
Swoon-worthy hero
Bodyguard/protection romance
LOVEABLE SIDE CHARACTERS
Definitely recommend you start this series ASAP!
Power Play gets my vote! Randi is absolutely fantastic in all her hot messiness. I love her and all she is doing with her political journey. Also who wouldn’t want a Secret Service Agent like Trey! I feel like these two together are going to rule the world and I can’t wait to get into book 2 and read all about it.
This political romance has all of the classic elements… Slow Burn, longing looks, push and pull, and sexy times.
I read this book in one sitting and didn’t finish until 130am.
Will be grabbing Book 2 from KU in the morning
4.5 stars
I haven’t read many political stories, more so romance ones and this one is just perfect in every single way.
The build up tension between the characters is so good that kept me on the edge at all times and was waiting for a shoe to drop. I’m so glad that I have book 2 already so I can make my way through this world that the author has created so perfectly, a world full of deceit, power and tension of every kind.
I really wasn’t sure whether I would want to commit to a book that is part of a series and cannot be read as a stand-alone, as a lot of stories are being presented lately, but holy cow!! I am absolutely hooked on this story and am now hanging out for the next release!!
This story is a fast paced, intriguing, sexy and no holds barred look at the seedy underhanded world of the political circus that is the US presidential race.
Except this time there’s an outsider from the very wrong side of the tracks who’s being dragged along for the ride, but she’s going to fight to do it on her own terms with a little help from her hot, handsy security detail who has his own issues with the DC elite and isn’t afraid to buck the system!
Nothing will stop me from grabbing the rest of this series now, I can’t wait for the release of book 2, Power Twist!
A political romance with a twist!
Who doesn’t love the suspense and corruption of politics then add a firecracker like Randi and the whole series is going to be amazing.
Randi has been struggling in life since she was 6yrs old! She’s trying her best not to be the typical statistic in her neighborhood. Until one night and her life changes but she vows to trek ahead and be a fighter.
After finally catching a break in life and debating to make a deal with the devil her choices between struggle and freedom have come to light and now the journey begins!
This is going to be a great series!
What a powerful start to this series. This book sucked me right in, the characters, the plot, the twists, the scenes and the suspense. I loved it all.
I loved this book. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I started it because books with politics as a backdrop aren’t usually my thing, but this book was a page-turner. This is the first book in a 5 part series and does end in a bit of a cliffhanger.
Randi is a single mother who is trying to better her circumstances for her daughter. Although she is major of her small town and went to Harvard, she’s struggling to pay her bills. An old law school classmate shows up and makes her a proposition that will eliminate her debt and give her a place of power in Washington. Trey is a secret service agent who is assigned to Randi. They clash immediately but eventually develop a friendship which turns into something more.
There were a lot of twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. Randi and Trey were both fighters and I can’t wait to see what happens next. The next book can’t come out soon enough!!
Wow! This series is everything. I was dreading finishing it because I knew I’d have a bad case of book hangover and I was right.
I love Randi and all her quirks. She is one of the little people who is trying to be a voice to all the other little people in this country. She wants to be the change that the DC bureaucrats won’t and haven’t been.
She agrees to an arrangement with a sleazy politician she had the displeasure of knowing from her days at Harvard. Through her time on the campaign trail she befriends her security team who are just as funny as she is. One in particular ,Trey ,she finds herself especially close to. Their chemistry is not only hot as hell. But makes all of her struggles up until now all worth it.
In think what I like most about Randi is she is a fighter. A difference herself, for her daughter, for the people she is trying to get into office to help. She will definitely have DC on it’s ear! Cannot wait to read more of her story.
