From Kennedy L. Mitchell comes a sexy, romantic drama about an unruly, headstrong agent and the witty, stubborn woman he’s assigned to protect. Can these two set aside their hate for the other and work together to win it all? I’m in over my head, failing in their power games I don’t understand. One day I wasn’t sure I could pay the water bill for my trailer; now I’m wearing red-soled heels and … I’m wearing red-soled heels and sipping champagne, acting like I belong.
Everyone hates me. I’m alone in this hostile world until… him.
Saving me from the burning limo intertwined our destinies, whether we like it or not.
Secret Service Agent Trey Benson. Tall, dark, handsome–and hates me.
He thinks I’m like the other power-hungry socialites, desperate for his money and family name.
He’s the type of distraction I can’t risk. But he’s everywhere, always by my side wearing that damn mischievous smirk that makes me want to either slap or kiss it off his face.
Except our intense attraction grows too strong to ignore.
Stolen moments and secret nights wrapped in each other’s arms are dangerous, our hidden love affair the potential scandal I can’t afford.
Can I beat them at their own games with Trey by my side?
Or will love be the sacrifice I’m forced to make to get out of this mess alive?
Power Games is the first book in the five-book Power Play series. Each book cannot be read as a standalone. All five books follow one main couple’s relationship as it grows through a five-year time period. It’s suspenseful, steamy, and oh so unputdownable. If you’re a fan of Willow Winters, Meghan March and Skye Warren then this series is for YOU!
*Due to detailed mature content this book is recommended for 18+.

“A thrilling, intriguing and swoonworthy beginning to an epic series.” – Romance Read by PP’s Bookshelf
“Hot, suspenseful treat from Kennedy Mitchell, I can’t WAIT to see what happens next!” – Goodreads reviewer
“This series is going to eat my soul alive!!” – Heartbooked
I’ve never read this author’s works before but was absolutely mesmerized by her characters. Randi Sawyer was a take-charge, pull-no-punches kind of woman who finds herself in a situation she never could have predicted, and she’s a little confused about it because she didn’t realize DC was still stuck in the Middle Ages when it came to their attitudes toward women. When an accident brings Trey Benson to the rescue, secrets begin to unravel along with Randi’s life. She needs to figure out how she’s going to save face and keep racing toward her goal without losing everything good in her life.
It was exciting and fast-paced. There were characters I loved to hate and others who made me laugh. I wanted to string up some of the characters by their… privates. While i wanted to get to know others. It was filled with tongue-in-cheek humor and held moments that made my heart absolutely break. I look forward to reading more in this story.
Wow! This romantic suspense had it all! It was packed with action, laugh out loud moments, and moments that really pull at the heartstrings. I was totally lost in this storyline. It sucked me in from start to finish.
I can’t wait to read more about Randi, and her Secret Service Team. This was a new author for me. I highly recommend this book.
4*
Randi hasn’t had an easy life pregnant at 15, having a drug addict for a mother she wants better for herself & her daughter.
A proposition from her old college bully Kyle could be her turning point.
Trey & his team are appointed as security for Randi, he hates Shawn and politics but has he got Randi wrong?
I was recommend by a friend to read this series and I’m not disappointed I’ve already downloaded the next book, “Power Twist
Good recommendation
5 STARS
This is my first Kennedy L. Mitchell book! I was far from disappointed, I loved every word exchanged between Trey and Randi! Their banter is so entertaining. This set a great foundation to what I can tell will be an amazing series, now I can’t wait to read the rest.
Power Play by Kennedy L. Mitchell is an EPIC read and will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!
I’m fairly new to KLM books and definitely political suspense but I loved her spin on the genre. Her characters are real and relatable and you can’t help but root for them especially Randi. A great start to a new series
This is my first read from this author and I loved it. Just when you think you know what’s happening, the twist hits. I can’t wait to see what’s next. Love it when I find a new author.
This is my first book from Kennedy L. Mitchell and I was pleasantly surprised. Plower Play had exactly what I needed…Dirty politicians, hot secrete service, strong and witty heroine and just overall suspense. I never knew what was going to happen next so I flew through this.
“Pretty much he needs Trailer Park Barbie next to him to show the voters he isn’t the aristocratic douche they assume he is at the core. Which he is, so basically I’ll lie.”
What I loved the most is the complex person that Randi is. At the surface she sounds like every typical uppity politician but we quickly learn just how much there is to her. She is strong, a force to be reckoned with smart. She sticks up forever self and stays true to who she is. Watching her break down Trey’s walls and preconceived notices was beautiful.
I fell for Trey and Randi, I was engrossed in the storyline and I wanted more. Thankfully there is more to come because let’s be clear…I would NOT BE OK if there wasn’t. I’m just asking for some more heat in book 2, Mitchell. BRING IT!!!
If you want a quick read that is suspenseful, fun and plenty of twists then pick up Power Play and emerge yourself in a dirty political world with a beacon of hope from some decent people.
Power Play is the first book in a new series and my first book by Kennedy Mitchell. This book was the perfect set up for what is to come in this series. It was fast paced with a great plot/storyline and characters. There was mystery and suspense and great chemistry between Randi and Trey! There is also a lot of funny moments and my favorite, Golden Girl references!! The slow burn was almost torture, but these two make the perfect pair! There are so many obstacles keeping them apart. The end of book one does not end on a cliffhanger but has me very curious to see what happens in book 2!! Great start to a new series and author!!
Not my first read by author and I am very honored to have received this ARC very early!! I can’t wait to see more in this series because after this one I AM NOW HOOKED!! Also little about the author from how I perceive her: her books are different, in a REAL sense, so it’s not your typical romance and it’s always real to a point you forget your reading. So, this is a political-real-life-romance, enemy-to-lovers, angsty, suspenseful, mysterious, action packed, funny and sweet at times also. Slow burn for sure, but with some teasing! When hero and heroine meet it’s under not so good circumstances. What’s worse is that Randi was shocked by the man’s size and beautiful eyes, until the harsh words that come out of his mouth. How do you change someone perception of yourself when it’s a lie to yourself too.
Trey Benson is part of Randi’s security detail, and the man is a grumpy one. Sexy, but grumpy! Considering he got himself and his team in the situation they are in in the first place. I think it’s funny that he already made up him mind about Randi, but he has NO IDEA!! Trey and Randi are more intertwined than they know, small world if you will. Beware and that’s saying it light of K Y L E! Oh my gosh, did I want to stab him then suffocate him with his own pillow a few times! *grrrr* This is a VERY REAL LIKE political life, and boy did the author do some good research which ever way!!
Two people whoa re polar opposite, lies, wrongs, deception and real life. It’s when Trey realizes a little who Randi really is, every day it’s something new and he can’t believe his eyes because, not a minute ago she was this polished, clean beautiful and shark woman in a world of powerful men. This is a DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER through and through. I really really flipping fell in love with Randi, her past, her upbringings, her push through life…it’s admirable and not believable at times but in here you will understand that, really not everyone is as they seem. But throughout all this, she stays true to HERSELF even if the rest of the world sees her as this perfect Political Barbie!
While these two try and figure out WHO THEY ARE to themselves, while living this life of polar opposite yet so very much alike…it’s a on the edge of the seat, glued to your book type of story. As much as the political world is arrogant, there is a way to navigate, the question is will Randi trust her new found friend Trey to help her with that, and will Randi put himself back out there for someone he essentially had pegged already?!
Prepare for that ending & thereafter…seriously, a fight to the end?
A MUST READ!

Power Play is my first Kennedy Mitchell book and it certainly will not be the last. Mitchell had me hooked from the very start. I have to say I loved Trey and needed more of him from his appearance on the first page. I was hooked on Randi hit home so much that I cried. I absolutely know and understand that struggle and felt it in my soul. However, I do have to say the events that happen next are not something I’m familiar with.
I knew from the moment Randi Kyle asked her to do what he did that Trey would be her guard, and I absolutely could not wait. And Trey and Randi did not disappoint me. Their chemistry, banter and tension jumped off the page. I could not not help but to love Randi and Trey!
Power Play was an amazing book, that was written perfectly! Mitchell was able to check all the boxes in my book and leave me begging for book two! I absolutely NEED more of Trey and Randi and will be here waiting not at all patiently for Power Twist! 5 power stars for Kennedy Mitchell and Power Play!
Randi Sawyer was a tough woman to be mess around. Her backstory was rough and it had captured my curiousity to see her grow. Role Play was calculated and spicy. Kennedy had written the story with great layers of suspense. I love her play with women being a political figure. Role Play was a yummy read..
About November, I was in the market for a political romance and asking around in a few groups to see if anyone had recommendations. I didn’t have any luck until someone reached out to me and said: “Hey there is this author that I beta read for, and she has a new political romance coming out, you should sign up!” I read the blurb and knew it was something I would be interested in, and Power Play delivered on everything I was wanting.

5 GIVE ME MORE STARS!! Give me more…..I did not want this book to end. I absolutely loved Randi and Trey….GIVE ME MORE. This book could be a movie….. I could see the scenes playing out in my head as I read this story. Kennedy Mitchell sucks you right into the story with her detailed words. I need the next book…..I am dying for more of these two.
WOW this is only my second book I have read from the author and I AM HOOKED!! I really hate talking politics with most because I have my own opinions and some may not agree with them. This book is the politics of playing a game to better your life when you have not choice in the matter.
I love a good rags to riches story and this is one but when someone you hate dangles that lifeline in front of you, what would you do to better your life and finally change the cycle of heartbreak from working your fanny off for what you believe in but not seeing it change your life for the better.
This is a slow burn but when those flames spark man a wildfire erupts and there is no stopping it. I can’t wait for the next one in this series as most of us do when you end in the way most books in a series do. It is a mild cliffy compared to some books I have read but well worth the read I feel.
Omg
Ladies and gentlemen you have come across my first book of 2020 that would be at least 6 stars if I could do that.
What a way to start a series. I’m so glad the author has decided to do more than 2 books as I never want to say goodbye to Randi and her secret service men.
I was laughing and crying right along side them and cannot wait for them to rule the world.
Then there is Trouble with a capital T….
This is going to be interesting to read.
ONE CLICK IMMEDIATELY!!!
Power Play was my first book by Kennedy Mitchell and also my first political suspense. I was intrigued from beginning to end. I have the feeling this is the start of something great and I cannot wait to see where this series goes.
Power Play is a must read political romantic suspense that is perfect for the 2020 political season. It tells the story of Randi Sawyer and Trey Benson. Randi grew up poor to a drug addicted mother. She carried that stigma all of her life. Her life gets turned upside down when she is approached by presidential candidate Kyle Birmingham. She wants to break free from her past but we can never leave it in the past. Randi is fiercely independent and wants to do things on her own.
Trey, a member of the secret service, and his team are assigned to protect Randi as she becomes the vice presidential candidate. He comes from a wealthy background but wants nothing to to with being in politics. After being burned, he cant stand the fakeness of the DC elite and judges all of them the same. That is until he sees something different in Randi.
Kennedy has written a story full of partial truths, suspense, and greed. All this is mixed in with a chemistry that blurs professional lines. Both Randi and Trey are two broken souls that are complex and yet believable. Most of us know someone who could be either on of these two. The supporting characters also play an important role in the flow of the storyline. Power Play is not a standalone and is the first of five books in the Power Play Series. I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions, written and implied are my own and were not influenced by the author or her promotional team.
Trey Benson is in the Secret Service who just got his team off their post when he talked the United States VP when he was sexually harassing a woman in his office. Now his team has been delegated to working for candidates in the upcoming election but know they are treading on thin ice.
Randi Sawyer is a lawyer and the Mayor of Boone, Texas and is barely scraping by. She grew up in a trailer park was determined to make something of herself and not live the life that her mother does. She was made fun of in college and law school because of her background but she finds she isn’t doing very well at escaping everything.
When Randi is given a business proposition by her arch enemy, Kyle Birmingham, she knows that this may be her one chance to escape her current situation. Yet she soon realizes how dangerous this business arrangement may be and can she find anyone to trust before it’s too late?
This was such a great start to the series and I am really excited to see where this is going to go in the next few books.
I thought Trey was a good character and guy who unfortunately mad a good mistake but at a bad time. I hated that he got in trouble for doing the right thing and it shows the double standard that still exists today. I liked gradually learning about where Trey came from and why he made the choices he did to get to where he was currently at.
Randi was an underdog that you cheered for right from the beginning. I admired her for taking on so much to make something of herself by herself and I hated everything that she was subjected to, especially the nicknames she was given in school. When the business discussion first came her way I hated what was proposed to her and I was so glad that she made changes!
I absolutely hated Kyle Birmingham and Shawn Witt and I never trusted either of them. I was actually completely shocked that Kyle agreed to go along with what Randi proposed given what he had to lose and what was at stake for him. I know Shawn was behind everything bad that happened although I have no proof behind my guesses.
I loved how Trey and Randi’s relationship and level of trust slowly progressed from a level of distrust to being the person that each of them could count on. I hated the different things that Randi was subjected to and I was so happy that Trey had her back.
I loved when things evolved between Trey and Randi yet so much was at stake for both of them!
The end was so bittersweet as I was happy for Randi but I am really freaked about what is to come and I was sad as well for Trey as now there is so much more at stake for both of them!

Who..What..Where..Why???
Those were questions that I constantly asked with this book. I needed a change in the romance genre and boy did I finally get it with Power Play. My heart clenched several times for Randi. My pulse kicked up when the sharks were circling around her and I thought they would bit. And then came in Trey and even I felt the safety Randi was looking for. I am not much into politics, but the author stuck to Randi and her story that I hardly noticed it. We know she is running for VP with Kyle, but there is so much she has to take just to prove she isn’t a failure.
Trey is the rock we need in this story. You can fill the strength with each word read. I loved the chemistry Randi and Trey have. I also loved for all the flaws “society” seem to find in Randi, Trey found it was perfect.
Power Play fills your senses and has you on high alert. The drama, the angst, the forbidden is all over this story will have you reeling in from page one to the end. I am fidgeting in my seat until I know what happens in the next book. I am not sure if these series will kill me as they span for a five year. My hope is at the end Randi gets what she truly deserves, happiness.
