Valis works as a man possessed, but there’s no outrunning the past.In war training, Valis advances quickly, but in magic training, he’s lucky not to blow himself up trying to wield his dual magic. Constant growth spurts make him outgrow his training armor and his attraction to his mentor, Tavros, rising to molten levels puts Valis under added pressure. And there’s one more problem Valis can’t seem … problem Valis can’t seem to shake—his birth father, Roba. He demands Valis pay him a visit in exchange for information, but his request is one Valis can’t accept.
But Roba is not a man who deals well with being told no, and he will do everything in his power to get his way. And his way may just haunt Valis forever.
The M/M romantic elements in God Jars is a very slow burn. The God Jars Saga contains explicit material including violence, abuse, and M/M sexual encounters, and is not advised for anyone under the age of 18.

This is the third story in the series. Valis has begun war training, thou he is training more for magic training. He is extremely attracted to his mentor, Tavros. Valis’s father, Roba is demanding that Valis visit him, but Valis isn’t willing. Well written, strong characters, and fantastic story line. This series trapped me since the beginning so I couldn’t do anything else but to read book 3 to see how Valis story continued and I didn’t left the book until finished. Now, the training intensifies and danger closed around him, while struggling with his magic, his heart and his friends and trying to live up the expectations everyone created for him. Finally, everything is becoming clearer and in this book you’ll get a glimpse of the wonderful world built by the author. You need to read the previous books to understand the complexity of the trama. Loved it!
I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
4.5 rounded up
This book concludes the Duty and Sacrifice trilogy, but don’t let that fool you. This sets the stage for the next trilogy, Purity and Control, so don’t think for a second that you will get a full story.
I am really enjoying this saga, but as I have seen mentioned in other reviews, there is an awful lot of crying. I have mentioned in reviews of the previous books how tactile the characters are, but it is starting to get a little old. Other than that, the storyline flows nicely from Avristin, the second book in this trilogy.
Valis is still missing his fathers, but his training is far exceeding Tavros’s mentoring plan. And while Valis still fights his own demons, I have to remind myself that technically he is just finishing puberty, despite his age. While Tav is patient most of the time, he still calls Valis “kid,” and uses his mentor mask when needed. And, although there are brief hints, Valis’s infatuation still appears to remain one sided.
The plotline throughout this book is Valis and his encounters with Roba. There are different ways this happens, but Valis finds himself afraid yet determined at each meeting. That is until Roba attacks Tav, and violates Valis (not in a trigger warning way). At that point, Valis finds himself in a new and unfamiliar, unsettling situation: Roba is dead, but he won’t go away.
A new character is added to the group of friends, which leads to Valis, Tav, Seza, and Zhasina leaving on a quest. And, to make Valis’s life just that much easier, his best friend Aryn just refuses to take a hint. But before they leave, the Sovereign Priest throws in a twist that has the powerful historian, Thyran, about ready to burst. After he has a talk with the four young travelers, he gives a dire warning…which of course is where the trilogy comes to an end.
Happy reading!
