A Sassy Southern Cozy!
We dive right in! Missy finds a body in a pseudo pumpkin patch set up as part of the Halloween Festival. When it seems that she’s under attack herself as well, she has to investigate.
Missy works at an animal shelter. It’s so good to see Missy doing such good work at the shelter, where dogs (and cats, but the book focused on dogs) get lots of love. Missy will do anything for her dogs, they are family, after all! She’s more of a dog person than she is a people person. I think she’s got the perfect job for a cozy! She is impulsive and does jump to conclusions a bit quick, but that made for an entertaining read. A good cozy, with lots of Southern sas! Doglovers, this is a not-to-be-missed cozy!
A wonderful mystery within the dog rescue scene. Ms. Aspenson has done her homework on the topic! Recently widowed, Missy loves dogs and supports her local animal rescue shelter. When she finds a body, it looks as though she or her dogs were the intended target. Missy investigates the woman’s death to put a stop to the murderer before they can strike again. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Lots of dogs, lots of suspects with lots of motives. Carolyn Ridder Aspenson has sure done her research into the world of dog training and shelters. Missy is preparing for a dog adoption event at the Halloween fair and it seems like there are quite a few folks that don’t like dogs and want her area removed. Missy is a well-prepared (self-defense) widow with some wonderful supportive family/friends. The fair organizer is murdered (is it death by pumpkin??!!) and now they have to determine if it’s related to those trying to shut down the dog area. Great start to a fun new series. What’s ahead for Missy and her daughter!! Can’t wait to find out.
Great start to a new series. Well written story that will keep you guessing. I Loved the characters and the setting. I look forward to getting to know them better in the next books.
A good book, lots of dog talk, and a solid mystery. If you enjoy a book that has a lot of info along with the fiction, give it a try. There wasn’t as much humor in this one. Our main character isn’t flawed. I like flawed. lol. This author is highly recommended.
Missy Kingston owns and runs an animal shelter. Dogs are her life. While setting up a dog adoption area at the town festival, she finds a dead body. The body is the woman who is running the festival. As Missy becomes involved in solving the murder, she receives a death threat herself.
This is probably the start of a new series. I love the characters and the story line was solid. This should definitely be on your to read list.
I really enjoyed Pooches, Pumpkins, and Poison! This is a great quick Halloween story. The characters are great. And there are lots of cute dogs! The mystery is interesting and has many twists and turns to keep you guessing. This was a fun book to read. It is a wonderful start to a new series. I look forward to reading more in the future.
Pooches, Pumpkins, and Poison is the first book in a new series and it is a fantastic read!
If your looking for the perfect fall mystery, look no further. This is a well written mystery with Missy as the main character, who is widowed and cares for animals at a shelter.
The book opens at the Halloween Festival and Missy stumbles upon a body. I love the characters in this book and that includes the dogs and maybe a cat or two!
The mystery is well thought out. This is a quick read that left me excited for the next book in the series.
Pooches, Pumpkins, and Poison (Pooch Party #1), my twelfth highly enjoyable read from author Carolyn Ridder Aspenson and the first in her Pooch party series. After having read Dogs, Dinners, and Death (Pooch Party #3), the third in her Pooch party series I knew I had to get the first two books and read them as well. Well-written & enjoyable, I was only familiar with this author from the Lily Sprayberry Realtor mysteries and Holiday Hills Witch series before these two reads. Another excellent read. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
Good Story line, I really like the character Missy whom is a window and who has a love for dogs. She is going to have a dog/ volunteer/adoption set up at the local fair when she stumbles across a dead body, she wants to help out a friend who thinks the man arrested is not the real killer. Missy is all for helping til she realizes the person killed may have not been the intended target but maybe she and her dogs were .So she does everything she can to find the real killer and real reason it happened, along with her adorable dogs She will figure it out despite be warned to stay off the case.
What’s a widow to do?
Recently widowed Missy, who is just a tad too curious for her own good, runs across a murder victim amidst a bunch of pumpkins. Being naturally a curious person, she is hard-pressed to leave the murder investigation to the authorities. She is repeatedly cautioned that it is dangerous to involve herself in a murder investigation; but apparently cannot control her impulsive, curious nature. It is a good thing that she has a strong circle of support because she is going to need them.
It is unusual for murder mysteries to have a HEA ending; but the secondary story of dogs getting a HEA is great. There is also a hint of romance for more than a couple of the characters in the story. My opinion is that is always a nice little extra something to have in a cozy.
This is a good, clean read. There is no vulgar language, sexual situations, or graphic violence; and yet, the story is intriguing and entertaining. Kudos to Carolyn Ridder Aspenson for a great story.
I liked this fun mystery very much. It has cute, very obedient dogs too that makes it more fun. Easy read. Great mystery. I received a free copy from the author. This is my voluntary review.
What a great mystery. Great characters, thrilling mystery, a little scary, and the dogs are wonderful. I loved this book and am excited to read more in the series. Great writing
“Why would I help you find that out?” “Because whoever killed Traci could have killed you, too. Whether the autopsy results are back yet or not, they will be in a matter of days, and we both know it’s going to show cyanide poisoning, Missy. Had you touched that pumpkin, by, I don’t know, tripping or whatever, you could be dead, too. Do you really want the wrong person going to prison?”
And that’s when things got interesting!
What looks at first as if it might be a vengeful spouse incident, starts looking like it’s a lot more personal and is about Missy herself and her shelter dogs. Which kicks Missy into investigative gear to get to the bottom of things and protect her pooches!
Aspenson has created a kick ass accidental sleuth in Missy Kingston. She is sympathetic, engaging, and completely devoted to seeing things through. And this story has all the earmarks I look for in an engrossing whodunnit; a couple of plausible red herrings, a few rescue dogs for interest, and a budding romantic interest that will keep at least this avid reader coming back with each new installment. An excellent read, I am highly recommending!
This review is for the audio book.
I enjoyed this book and hope there are many more to come in this fun series. I liked the characters but the dogs made it a fun listen and the main character more likeable, the way she really cared for the animals in her charge. The mystery was good and I hadn’t worked out who the killer was as everyone I suspected got ruled out, so it kept me listening and I got through the story all in one day.
Missy missing her dead husband puts all her time and attention into the town’s animal shelter. This means having a pooches party at the local Halloween festival where the public gets to meet and greet hopeful pups that need new homes. But not ever body is happy with this idea and when someone kills the festival’s organizer and the pooches biggest supporter Missy and her dogs feel threatened. The women’s husband is soon arrested by Missy good friend asks her to look into it for him because he knows his friend is innocent and being in the counsel board it wouldn’t look right for him to be asking questions. This however puts her on the killers radar and the killer targets Missy dogs but this causes the opposite reaction in Missy and Instead of backing down Missy stands up for her fur friends and starts investigating even harder. Can she get to the bottom of the murder before someone else is hurt?
I liked the narrator she uses a lot of emotion to bring each of the characters to life in this fun cozy mystery.
Widow Missy Kingston takes on the job of a lifetime, and it’s not the one at her town’s animal shelter.
It’s Halloween season, and the local animal shelter’s pooch adoption manager, Missy Kingston, is excited to show off the available dogs at her town’s Halloween festival!
But when she discovers the festival’s organizer dead in a pile of pumpkins, Missy’s convinced there’s more to the story than meets the eye.
This is the first book in a new series. I really enjoyed the main character Missy and her pups! I liked the chemistry between her and the local cop Matt. I will definitely read the next one in the series.
Missy runs the local animal shelter and is busy getting ready for the town festival. As she’s carrying things to her area, she finds Traci dead. After speaking to the police and a friend, she decides to look into who might have wanted to kill Traci. With a twisting plot and good characters, along with lovable dogs, this is a great cozy. I totally enjoyed it.
Missy Kingston does not make it a habit to find dead bodies. Finding her husband dead in the driveway was enough for her. After the passing of her husband, Missy took the job of dog adoption manager at the local shelter. She began to organize Pooch Parties to boost dog adoptions and had set one up for the harvest festival. As she was walking through the pumpkin patch at the fall festival she comes across the festival organizer, her organizing days are over. Someone is plotting against her parties and it seems it is connected to the murder. Can Missy find the real killer before her parties are sabotaged and the killer finds her? Carolyn Ridder Aspenson has done it again with this new cozy mystery series, good characters, and an interesting plot. I am excited to read the next one.
If your looking for a quick, entertaining, cozy mystery with great characters, a murder, a few rescue dogs, and a hunt for the killer than this is the book for you.
I’m quickly becoming a fan of Carolyn Ridder Aspenson’s cozy mysteries and I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
I have always enjoyed Carolyn’s stories, and this series shows readers why she is such a talented writer! If you are a dog lover or an animal lover then you should read this book. While showing available dogs for adoption, Missy finds a dead body during the Halloween festival. It is the festival director, dead among the pumpkins! Can Missy find the killer? You will need to read this entertaining story for the answer. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
