My name is Jeremy Thorn, and I’m a serial killer.Jeremy ‘Remy’ Thorn is a detective from a small town in Oregon. He does his job well and keeps to himself. A past of trauma and abuse, and a compulsive need for balance have shaped him into the person he is today: a decisive, effective killer. His routine is simple but trustworthy. Step one: Find two targets. The first, an abomination of a human … abomination of a human being whose only contribution to the world is as fertilizer. The second, a detriment to society, perhaps a sidekick or accessory.
Step two: Kill the first. Frame the second.
Easy.
After his latest, and most personal kill, all seems to be going well. He makes it home by morning and continues with his plan as normal, with each perfectly timed maneuver all mapped out. But to his horror, he finds that the man he was trying to frame—a hotshot detective from a major nearby city—has been called in to work the case. And what’s worse … he’s privy to the truth.
“Michael Lilly’s first novel, Pond Scum, is distinguished by fine writing, a compelling story and well- wrought characters. An auspicious debut.”
Michael Nava, author of the Henry Rios novels
“Pond Scum is gripping reading…Nice twist to the serial killer/cop story. Pond Scum is definitely one to look out for.”

Even though I’m not a fan of novels written in the first person, this turned out to be a good read. Decent amount of tension throughout the book but the way the antagonist was finally apprehended was a bit anticlimactic. All in all, a good series starter.
I chose this book because I thought it would be interesting; a cop who is a murderer. My impression was a cop gone bad and killing. No! A cop who is still a cop murdering those he thinks deserves it. In the story, he murders his dad with
the intention incriminating another person (who is bad too). All goes wrong. He admits to his partner and she helps him to protect himself. I finished it, but I did not enjoy it.
Couldn’t really get into this book. I just couldn’t connect with the main character — nothing to like about him.
Didn’t even finish it. Was just too boring.
A pretty good read, but drags at times as the protagonist gets too introspective, some unexpected twists sprinkled in.
Extremely well-written book!
Great book reading the second one in series now. which was great as well
great one
I can heartily support Remy Thorn. Justice often needs a helping hand.
Very good read
I couldnt put it down
Great!!!!
This was a very interesting book. A detective in a small town who was severely abused as a child! The book is told from his point of view! He’s kind of a loner and his favorite pastime is killing evil people who he feels deserve to die and framing an equally evil person. In this book he kills his pedophile father and tries to frame his fathers accomplice who just happens to be a detective with the Portland Police Dept! While playing a cat and mouse game with the detective who just so happens to be called in to handle the case, he must also keep his secret from his partner! It’s an interesting book in that it’s from a serial killer/ pedophile victim! It’s interesting to watch him evolve and grow. It was well written and the characters are portrayed realistic and with depth! It’s interesting how they react to situations and how their views and feelings are so flexible! I really enjoyed this book
I enjoyed this book The plot was original. I would recommend it.
good story, but being told in first person with the writer changing from active role to narrator and back detracts
I liked the storyline, but I was taken aback that the whole book is written from a serial killer’s point of view & thus the slant is that he’s not really a bad guy for a murderer. Plus there was a lot of PROFANITY, which I hated.
I just finished reading this story about detective Jeremy Thorn. A man who is successful in doing his job well, in spite of the many personal scars of his unhappy past. He also has a secret he must keep to be safe, but feels no guilt. He is somewhat paranoid but through various facets of thoughts regarding himself and the reason for the person he has become, he manages to stay sane. where many who have gone through the mental and physical abuses he has endured would not be so lucky. He truly is a strong survivor, He manages to find a true friend solely by accident, with much in common, who has also gone through the same abuse, and also a lonely loner. His many personal thoughts gave me an insight of how he manages to reason out his many problems. Together with his new friend and his tough female work partner they form a threesome of crime fighters on a dangerous case. They manage to become true heroes without notoriety. A good read by a skilled story teller. Thanks Michael!
Boring
great reading a page turner for sure, have saved to best read book to read again
Pond Scum starts out with a really novel premise and quite good writing. I really thought it would be a page-turner. As the book progressed, the original plot became less important and it turned into a book about relationships and the main character’s tortured history. It was the plot that caught my attention and made me want to find out what happened. The ending was pretty anti-climactic.
The writing is good, but at times really verbose. The author describes some rather unimportant things in tedious detail, but does it well. However, it’s just too much. I give this book three stars because it’s an okay read, but could have been so much more.
