“beautifully encapsulates what love is” Kirkus Reviews
…After ten years together, including some difficult times, Adam and Eva are still as in love as they were when they told each other every day that they loved each other every day more.All-round adorable Adam – adopted, mixed-race, with a deep social conscience that he shares with his wife – claims to have no issues other than having no … he shares with his wife – claims to have no issues other than having no issues. Raised by remarkable parents, he has grown up happy and grounded, uninterested in his “other parents” or in why they might have had to give him up.
Having lost her father at fifteen, and still suffering a terrible relationship with “mother”, Eva has more issues than she cares to admit, and it falls to an unexpected visit by two policemen to uncover a secret she has kept from her husband since the first day they met.
With the past at last explained, and the worst of it now apparently behind them, today has been a day of good news, which Eva is looking forward to sharing with the friends who have invited them to dinner. But their hosts seem to have very different plans for the evening, and the air is thick with tension as gradually the reason for their invitation begins to come out…

The book that introduced me to this author through a friend’s recommendation at our book club. As well as entertaining I found it very bold, but having read some reviews I think its premise has been much misunderstood. It’s not about condoning, justifying or trivializing the protagonists’ actions, it’s about the generosity one finds in love, empowering one to look beyond actions that to others might seem unforgivable. But that’s not what makes it such an interesting book, what I enjoyed most were the lighter moments, so full of humor.
Didn’t get past page 5 – language and sex are not my idea of entertainment.
Going along it was a mildly interesting book, interesting enough that I did want to know how it would turn out. Boy that last chapter was a shocker. It was so shocking that I actually had to go back to the online write up to see what on earth could have possibly made me think this would be a book I would be interested.
SPOILER ALERT:
The bottom line is this – the male love interest is determined to be a good guy solely based on the criteria that when his wife secretly aborted their baby, not telling him then nor telling him later why she couldn’t have children (apparently due to the abortion), and then when he finally did find out the secret – found out not told – he was completely fine and supportive of her about it because afterall it is totally up to her what to do, even if married, even if its his much desired child. Pages of blathering about how of course the most important thing in all the world is the right to have an abortion and how the second most important thing in all the world is to totally believe and agree that the right to have an abortion is the most important thing in all the world.
Nauseating.
Quirky and original.
This was so strange. The character development was lacking and it was a disappointing read.
Couldn’t finish this book, and that’s rare for me. I couldn’t get through the whole Eva and her ‘mom’s’ relationship. Probably should have scanned forward and picked up the story further on.
This book was much like a B rated movie. Not bad. Not good. Just so-so.
Tried to read this on two different occasions. Nothing drew me into the story.
I did not like this book. I never warmed up to the characters and ending was so unrealistic.
too much colloquial language. unintelligible for an american reader.
Some have described it as a blending of humor and heartbreak. It’s an excellent description of a wonderful book.
I couldn’t finish it. Over-written. Characters not compelling.
Totally unrealistic
I made it through 75% of this book, and I never picked up a thread of what it was about, I don’t believe I’ve ever (tried) to read a more inane book.
I liked the book. I felt the ending left me hanging like it wasn’t quite done.
One of the worst BookBub choices I ever made. How this got as far as being published is beyond my ability to imagine. Silly story, unbelievable characters and way too many commas. It hit the Kindle ’round file’ very early.
Not sure where this one was meant to go. I kept reading only because I thought it would pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat at the last minute and make the time invested worthwhile. Alas it did not. Very odd, the whole thing. Sorry but I cannot recommend. Just very strange overall.
Ok book
