A master class of storytelling. Twists and turns and almost non-stop action set against a mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end about what happened. I loved Cyberstorm and all of Mr. Mathers books, but Polar Vortex might be my favorite yet!
A very creative storyline with multiple plots ongoing at once. A great page turning experience very hard to put down, this author is easy to follow and enjoy.
This is both a strange and exciting thriller. A jetliner goes down in the arctic and more than a week later still hasn’t been found. The only clue to its whereabouts is a journal found a thousand-plus miles (and more than a week) from where everyone thinks the jet crashed. So the story is told on two levels—brief chapters involving the team examining the journal which bookend much longer sections chronicling the journal-writer, Mitch, and his five year old daughter as they get on to the plane and eventually crash and struggle to survive.
This is an exciting, edge-of-your-seat style, adventure that anyone can empathize with because who wouldn’t do whatever they had to in order to make certain their five-year-old child survived. There are a lot of strange people on board—enough to make you think that even coincidence can’t account for all of this—and part of the genius of the story is that coincidence isn’t the answer. This is an extremely well thought out story which I totally enjoyed.
An Engrossing Adventure from the first breath!
Meh??? A bit of a chore to get through. Every time I picked it up to read, I could never spend more than 20-30min at a time reading it because it was kind of boring. It wasn’t until about the 70% point, where they were trekking to Canada that it actually became a little more interesting. And to think that they’re going to make a movie out it. Yeah, that’s a movie I will never pay to see.
Polar Vortex is the best Matthew Mather book to date. Thrills & Mysteries abound. Loved the characters and most important ***SPOILER ALERT*** Thank You for not killing the dog.
Fantastic read! Would not be surprised to see this as a block-buster movie! Matthew Mather is a skilled, imaginative writer.
Writer Mitch Matthews and his daughter board a pole flight from Hong Kong to New York. The plane goes down and all attempts to locate it fail. This thriller from Matthew Mather will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first page till the last.
This author typically writes Scifi with a futuristic theme. If this book was a test the waters of writing a psychological suspense, I would say it is a fantastic success. You will be guessing till the very end.
Mitch Matthews and his daughter Lilly are heading home on Allied Flight 695. They’re going to take “Santa’s Shortcut” over the North Pole. Mitch’s brother-in-law is the pilot. What could possibly go wrong on a routine 14 hour flight? Mitch is about to find out….
Riveting.. breathtaking… an amazing story that builds, twists, and twines several subplot lines together into an explosive, unexpected finish. Suspense filled is a pale reflection of the path forged by this book. Highly recommend to everyone and anyone! Wish I could give this book 10+ stars!
Mitch Matthews and his five-year-old daughter, Lilky just hopped on Allied Airlines 695 in Hong Kong to fly home to New York City. As they get aboard, they find themselves in First Class due to an upgrade from his brother-in-law who is one of the onboard pilots. His wife continued to stay in Hong Kong because of her just-found pregnancy.
But after crossing near the north pole, crashes onto ice in an unknown place near the arctic circle. But Mitch wakes up and has no idea why the plane crashed. Add to that, no one on earth knows where they are, either: Air Traffic Control lost the plane when it disappeared from their radar tracking system.
Follow Mitch and his group of new-found friends as they try to stay alive in the ungodly weather. The story is an action-packed adventure which always kept me behind the curve, not knowing what’s coming next.
The most unusual thing in this book is the author’s presentation to the reader on how his story was developed. He also included a number of historical facts that helped him as he wrote the story. This something I have never seen before.
