Maria V. Snyder! Absolutely love her one of my favorite authors along with Sarah J. Mass. I was in such a reading slump after I finished the Throne of Glass series and this book brought me back to my senses. Absolutely recommend!
I really enjoyed this book. I don’t read a lot of fantasy, but this was exceptionally well done. I couldn’t put the book down and finished it in a single session. I can’t wait to read the other books in the series.
Poison Study is one of my all-time favorite books. Love the character of Yelena and her strength and perseverance, as well as her ingenuity when it comes to survival and problem-solving. Great male protagonist and wonderful secondary characters, too. I highly recommend this to readers who love fantasy with strong heroines, great world building, …
Wow, how did this book initially slip by me? I thoroughly enjoyed Poison Study from start to finish. Yelena is a strong female character. She’s been through some truly terrible and horrifying experiences in her life, and yet still perseveres.
Valek is a wonderfully mysterious character. I loved him from the start, even though you learn from the …
Something a little different from my usual reading list, this was recommended by my daughter. Had me from the start. Great writing !
I feel like I need to write a positive review because this is a good book and a good series. It does have a YA flavor to it, I will admit but it also has some very mature themes. I like Yelena a lot. I’ve read the entire original trilogy (the author has continued this series extensively) and quite a few of the newsletter stories. I think Poison …
This is a character who has a rough beginning. But she develops and grows and you really root for her. I love the intrigue of this book.
I stumbled across this book by chance, I’m glad I did. It was one of my favourite stories, the book gets straight into the story. The plot has many twists and lots of action, but my favourite thing are the characters. I fell in love with them all, the romance isn’t over the top but you feel it in almost every way. This is well written and by far …
I found the characters in this book charming and really loved reading about their world.
Honestly one of my favorite books/series, Snyder does a really great job of taking characters and making them feel real. The political system was fleshed out, and the magic was evocative. Heads up that there are a few triggering scenes for abuse and rape, though they aren’t graphic.
I love this book. This is the start of one of those series that I come back to again and again. I love Yelana’s journey and Valek, oh Valek. I won’t say much more, just that you should read this book and be prepared to get lost in an incredible world.
This book is a must read for fans of fantasy, wonderful character, or getting lost in an alternate reality. Maria V. Snyder truly knows how to build a world of magic and excitement. I could not put this book down. The dialogue was so real and witty! I even loved the villains in the story they were so well crafted.
I Just cannot stop reading this book, every time I read it, which are like 4 or 5 times, I cannot stop myself and continue until the end, and of course grab the next one, magic study, which I have to add it’s my favourite.
I love that Valek was still present in her life and she has a family, bigger than she thought. I really love how the story grows and is still able to progress to another book in the series. I cannot wait to see what comes next for Yelana.
Fell in love with this world and these characters a long time ago and still visit frequently. I honastly love everything Maria has written.
An indulgent story with a lot to love. The broken narratives were a bit distracting, but I can forgive those when the plot keeps moving along nicely. I was relieved when Yelena turned out to be clever enough to tell her ‘friends’ things they needed to know. I really appreciated that her character development reached a point where she could talk …
I really enjoyed this book and went straight to the second one. The plot was great, unlike most books I’ve read.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought the turns were incredibly appealing. This book was a very quick read. It had all my favorite aspects of the fantasy genre. I hope others will discover this gem!
DNF — plot went off the rails towards the end
Poison Study is a Young Adult Paranormal book following condemned Yelena who is given a second chance at life by becoming the Commander’s Food Taster. Her job? Taste his food and recognise any poisons that could have been placed in there. Sounds better than the noose, so she takes it.
What follows is a story of betrayal, discovery, love and …
