A good story with unique characters and thorough research, I was pulled in from the first page. Yes, it was on the short side, but no biggie. I’m looking forward to finding out more about Eden and Dakota. They have a twisted background that keeps you guessing!
I wasn’t finished reading when the book ended. Can’t wait to read more!
Love this book. Following this author…
This book starts a series that I believe is one of Kyla’s best.
Point of Impact (Nuclear Dawn #1) was a great read by Kyla Stone. Dakota Sloane is a tough as nails former foster kid. The only family she has is her sister that is still in the system. The news starts showing bombs striking major cities. Dakota just wants to get her sister and leave. Logan Garcia just wants to drink himself into oblivion to get away from his secrets. Dakota offers Logan a deal that involves a safe place that she knows of. She’ll take him there if he helps get her sister. I enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more in this series.
Kyla’s books offer action and intrigue! I loved these characters and was hooked from the very first chapter! Highly recommended
Great story!
Loved the characters and the world Kyla brought to life for me. Thanks for an awesome read!
This was a fast-paced, entertaining book. I appreciate the research that the author, Kyla Stone, did in learning about what would potentially happen after a Nuclear bomb drops. I have seen some reviews that say that there was too much education/background information about this, but I think it added a lot to the book.
The characters were slowly introduced and the author made you feel like you were learning about them at the same time that they were learning about each other. This added to the realism of the book.
Dakota Sloan is a great heroine, only interested in keeping her younger sister, Eden, safe at any cost. As the story develops, the reader/listener learns more about their past and why it is so important for Dakota to take care of Eden. There was a diversity of characters, from a hardened former convict to a loving husband who spends a lot of time praying to common people just trying to survive the devastation. And, of course, you have some outlaws who just want to rule the world at a time when it is falling apart.
The book ended without a true resolution, but the reader should know this by the fact that this is Book One and the subsequent books are available in order to continue the series.
The narrator, Stacey Glemboski, does a fantastic job and adds a lot to the listener’s enjoyment. I look forward to seeing what happens next (and who the author will allow to survive!). If you enjoy Post-Apocalyptic fiction, you will enjoy this book. I was given the chance to listen to the audiobook version of this book by the author and chose to review it.
A gripping, twisting and thrilling story of a young girl caught in the apocalypse and needing to save her sister. The author did her research making this story have impact as this scenario could happen anywhere. Dakota has to figure out how to find and save her little sister after a nuclear bomb is detonated in the city she lives in. Against all odds, she is determined to do what it takes. This book is a must read for any person who enjoys apocalyptic stories.
I’m hooked! From page one Dakota, Logan, and the other Nuclear Dawn characters grabbed me, drew me in, and made me care what happened next. I was propelled to keep turning the page to find out the great question, what happens next.
This story seems so real it is frightening. All the characters react just like you would figure them to. This has been well researched in order to know how something like this would affect people and land. The things that happen to them as they travel to find a safe haven, is terrible. But it could happen to us. So when you read this book, be prepared to think that it could happen to you. This will be a fantastic series.
Fabulous new series with an intriguing cast of characters and an adrenaline charged plot
Point of Impact: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller (Nuclear Dawn, Book 1) by Kyla Stone and narrated by Stacey Glemboski will keep you on the edge of your seat! Great world building and wow to the characters! This is my first book by Kyla Stone and it won’t be my last. Recommend if you’re looking for something in the post-apocalyptic genre, something new and will hold your attention, or a shorter listen- it’s well worth the money/credit.
What’s it about? A group of strangers are brought together after a nuke hits. Dakota is trying to get to her sister, Eden, who is at her foster family’s house. Eden is waiting for her sister to rescue her while dealing with the trauma from past abuse. Logan has a dark past and just wants to drink his troubles away. Maddox, a dangerous man from the sister’s past, is hunting them when the nuke hits. The minor characters play an important role despite the story being told from Dakota, Eden, Logan, and Maddox’s point of view. I enjoyed the different point of views and that the author continued moving the story forward with each one versus rehashing the story from each different angle. The characters are well thought out- you get a little of their past and you can’t help but want to know more. The is a series so you won’t get closure with this one. Chances are by the end of the book you will be asking yourself what if this did happen? How would I handle it?
The narrator, Stacey Glemboski, was great. Easy to listen to voice and good pace. I would listen to another book by her.
Overall, I highly recommend especially if you are into the post-apocalyptic genre.
Parental guidance/trigger warnings: nuclear bombs- fallout and death from them, foster system problems (abuse), alcoholism, gangs (Latin Kings), guns, violence (what you’d expect if the world fell apart), one racist man (who dies but blames the nuke on Muslims before hand- one slur), hints/thinking about past abuse that sister’s suffered at hands of religious organization (not saying too much due to spoilers but one sister lost her ability to talk).
*I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you for allowing me to listen and review the book!
Stone’s characters are real world and believable. Her storytelling is second to none. She makes the Apocalypse reach out and touch you.
Know how to survive. Suddenly Dakota sees Maddox Cage, someone she’s been able to hide from for the last two years. At the same time the unthinkable happens in Chicago, Washington DC and New York, an attack. Dakota has to get to her sister, but as she gets ready to run, Miami is struck by a nuclear bomb. Read as this exciting, tense drama unfolds. The tension grabs you. The descriptions put you in the midst of the chaos. A great read.
ONE FASINATING READ!!!
Oh boy, talk about getting deep. In a whirlwind of emotions and events that seems to be riding on category 4 hurricane winds. This is one wild rollercoaster ride with all the drama, intrigue, action packed, fast paced, hard hitting, smooth flowing, heart pounding, pulse racing, page turning thrill that makes for one electrifying experience. All the twists and turns, ups and downs, along with a few unexpected surprises that keeps you riveted on the pages and frozen to your seat. The characters and scenes are written with such realism it really makes the storyline pop. Tensions rise an the plot thickens as the story unfolds. Kyla did an amazing job bringing this read to life brilliantly. Fantastic job Kyla, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
