While this is the first book I believe I’ve read by Mia Pride, I can tell you she has a new fan as I intend to read many more! Plunder by Knight is A Pirates of Britannia World Novel thus one in the series by that name. I love that she based much of the book on truth yet added in a character here or there to fill in some gaps left by history. While these characters are from her “writers imagination” they added much toward making this novel a real page turner. The interaction and dialogue between the characters was filled with a gamut of emotions, from humorous & infuriating to intense and mystical. The plot was based on well researched history while the characters exhibited depth and complexities. I personally found this novel to be among the top Pirate novels I have read to date! I can whole heartedly recommend this book to anyone interested in Pirates, history, the magic of early Ireland and Scotland and unexpected romance popping up where least expected. Can easily be read as a stand-alone, however, if you’ve read some or all of the others in this series, you will understand the connection between the characters.
I loved this story.
Thomas Esmonde, is torn. As a child he watched his mother struggle, and beaten. Then one fateful day, his real father shows up taking him to his land in England, his mother wanted more for her son.
He learned to be a knight and honor his Queen.
He was good at what he does, and no one was going to tell him otherwise.
He wanted to go back and help his mother, and his homeland.
It never seems as it appears, his desire to sail ships, with the ocean called within his soul.
Torn between honor and loyalty, all he desired was to have his own ship, and do what his ancestors did, but to dishonor his Queen and his knighthood was would not help his cause. And that was to help his people in Ireland.
Katherine was a person you didn’t want to mess with. She had her own agenda, and when Thomas finds out what it is, all heck breaks loose.
So much was going on in the book, and to me it did flow easily.
Lots of action, suspense, lies, deceit, and magical.
Thank you for the opportunity to read a fantastic story.
Mia Pride, Plunder By Knight is an Awesome story about a Irish boy who is sent to be raised by his English father. Thomas Edmonds aka as Thomas O’Malley the grandson of the Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley dreams of his pirate family roots but he is a Knight for his Queen. He is given the chance go back to Ireland and his pirates. Along the way he meets a English Lass who was raised in Ireland. Katherine and Thomas both dream about the treasure of Danu. Together they go on an adventure and fall in love!
I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Thomas, a half Irish half English knight with torn loyalties. He has family and people in Ireland and he is also a knight sworn to Queen Elizabeth. He becomes involved in a situation that places him on Irish soil where he meets Katherine, a beautiful young woman, with a load of secrets. Thomas and Katherine become embroiled in a plot that involves ancient tales and treasure, revenge, danger, and romance.
This is a terrific story that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. It has a cast of wonderful characters, interesting and humorous moments, real emotion and descriptions that put the reader in the midst of the tale.
I recommend this to readers of historical romance who enjoy intrigue with knights AND pirates as this book has the best of both.
I read this as an arc which did not affect my review in any way at all.
I really enjoyed this book number 7 in “The Pirates of Britannia” series. The story of Thomas O’Malley starts when he is just a wee lad of seven, his mother Margaret takes him from his grandmother’s castle, to meet up with a group of men. He does not understand when he finds out one of the men is the father he thought was dead an English nobleman Sir Lawrence Esmonde. Thomas is the grandson of the great Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley and all that Irish pirate blood flows in his veins, so even though he grows up to be a great English Knight and is bound by honor to his Queen Elizabeth the first he still feels that pull to have his own ship and sail the seas for treasure. One treasure in particular he has dreamt of since a boy “The Danu Treasure” buried for fifteen centuries by his ancestors. Katherine Bingham the daughter of Richard Bingham the governor of Connaught has lived in Ireland nearly all her life and loves the land and its people, she loves her father and thinks him the best of men, but she will soon find out he is really a hateful cruel man. Thomas is sent to Ireland by the Queen and there he meets Katherine daughter to the man he hates, a man who killed his uncle and who steals from the people he is meant to protect. This is a novel full of truths about the pain and suffering of the Irish people by the English the author did her homework well. We see the hate that Thomas feels for Katherine turn to protection, and then to love, in turn Kat falls in love with the tall handsome Knight, whose word and honor mean all to him. The story is a page turner, and is full of swashbuckling pirates, hidden treasure and of course true love. I recommend this book and know you will love Thomas and Kat’s story. Thank you Mia Pride for a great read.
I absolutely loved this book. Mia has a way with words and they were used well in this book. It had action, adventure, drama, and love. What more can you ask for in a book? The characters come alive and I can see, with my minds eye, what everyone is wearing and feeling as Mia writes. I always love a story that you can really get into and feel like you are there. This was a really great read. Congrats to Mia Pride!
I enjoyed the characters in this book. I love pirates, anyway and the story that goes with it is very interesting and keeps your interest. Great book to read and the romance add a bit of spice.
Ripped away from his loving mother and dubious grandmother, our Hero, Thomas Esmonde, is raised by an absentee father. Having an Irish Pirate as a grandmother has made his life in the English Court unbearable. The Queen sends him back to Ireland, where he meets and falls in love with Katherine. A beautiful, but ignored by her father, intelligent woman. The story is very fast – paced with a mystery intertwined with the romance. The road to their HEA is very, very bumpy-with at least two villains.
I really enjoyed the author’s style of writing. She is definitely on my always purchase and must read list.
Mia Pride does an excellent job or weaving suspense, pirates, drama and romance together for a nonstop adventure that will keep you enthralled to the last page! I have really enjoyed each Pirates of Brittania books and this one was no different. This is a story of Thomas Esmonde, born in Ireland and then taken by his father at an early age to England to train to be a knight and be loyal to the Queen. He always wanted to go back to Ireland and help his homeland and family but remain loyal to England. He was sent to Ireland on a mission for the Queen to see what is happening with the governor after hearing terrible reports of his treatment of the people and to bring back any bounty found. Of course he encounters none other than his grandmother, The Pirate Queen of Ireland and is taken on her ship. To make matters more interesting he finds the governor’s daughter, Katherine and takes her for revenge after her father does some horrific acts against his ship and crew! There are many twist and turns in this story and in the end, Thomas has a fierce desire to protect Kat after he sees how her father treats her. There was a lot of action and suspense with a touch of magic ( if you have read Mia’s stories about the Sisters of Danu you will know what I mean!). I cannot say enough about how I loved this story and the emotions between Kat and Thomas. They both needed each other and by more than fate, they were bound together!!!
I received this book as an ARC and was very happy with it. It had a bit of everything in it. Action, adventure, mystery, surprise and romance. I thought that the way Ms Pride wrote Queen Bess, you could almost hear her saying the words. She got the tone and speech perfect. I was very impressed. The rest of the book just kept you reading and not wanting to put it down. I loved it and look forward to reading more. As usual this reviewer skipped the sex but it did not impact my enjoyment of the book.

This book has it all, a swoon worthy hero, feisty heroine, romance, pirates, feuding families & deceit. I read it in well under a day as could put it down, the story was fast paced & exciting. The characters were very well portrayed. Thomas & Kat should have been sworn enemies but their attraction sizzled & his honour as a knight drove him. A very enjoyable read
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
