From two-time Romance Book of the Year Nominee and bestselling author K.M. Golland comes a hilarious, childhood marriage promise romance with a Forrest Gump meets How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days vibe.“One of the most adorable, funny, loving books I have read” ~ ReviewerPlight [plahyt]Noun: a difficult, or otherwise unfortunate situation.Verb: pledge or solemnly promise. Be engaged to be married. … solemnly promise. Be engaged to be married.
Elliot Parker was my best friend. When we were eight years old, he gave me a cheese ring, pushed it onto my finger, and asked me to marry him.
I ate the cheese ring.
I also said, “Yes” but that we’d have to wait until we were thirty years old.
Two years later, we both nearly drowned.
Four years after that, he moved away and I never saw him again.
I turned thirty last week, and now Elliot is calling in our promise.
Seriously, he is insane if he thinks that an out-of-the-blue private Facebook message stipulating the binding law of an oral contractual agreement is going to seal our twenty-two-year bullshit engagement.
Insane.
I wonder if he really does look like his profile picture though.

This is my first K.M Golland book and I’m pretty sure i actually won this book and am kicking my self that i have only read this now absolutely loved everything about this book. It was a best friends to lovers book even though they hadn’t seen each other for a very long time and they made a promise to each other and Elliot was ready to collect.
He was such a determined character but when your determination is driven by love nothing was going to stop him. He was successful and loved his job but he was also carrying around so much guilt regarding both his and Danielle’s past that it seemed he would never forgive himself. He was such a good character.
Danielle had her issues, issues i can relate too nobody likes to be abandoned and she has struggled with this all her life. She was stubborn and really caused any delay in these two becoming close but could totally understand.
I really did love this novel, the meddling mothers, annoying sister, an awesome housemate, i loved it was based in my home state and most of all i couldn’t help but love Pugly he just made me laugh.
This book had me laughing and enjoying the banter and back and forth between the two characters really great story.
*4 Stars*
This was my first KM Golland book, even though its been sitting on my shelf for a while. I purchased this on recommendation from a friend, at SAE nearly two years ago. Whoopsie to me for waiting for so long to get it. I read this in one sitting.
This was a fun friends to lovers read, which is also kind of a second chance romance I guess. In a way. Maybe. I liked Elliott and Danielle, and it was clear they were meant to be together. The main problem just laid within Danielle and some personal issues she had. I felt that some of the issues which involved Elliott himself, were still not properly dealt with at the end.
Otherwise though, this story flowed nicely and had plenty of fun laugh out loud moments. The secondary characters were interesting, my faves being Chris and Pugly.
Would recommend, and I look forward to reading more from this author.
Short review. Mixed feelings. I thought the premise was clever and couldn’t wait to read this book. Elliot and Danielle have good banter that had me laughing at how quirky they were, I love Elliot he’s a little strange with all his facts knowledge and has a big heart he’s a great book boyfriend. Danielle is somewhat likable but I felt like she needed deep therapy do to her abandonment issues, I also felt like she played the victim card way to too much.
**Spoiler alert**
One example is when Elliot and Danielle were kids they got trapped in a sewer drain during a storm, Elliot went to get help and Danielle considered that the first of many times that Elliot abandon her. I couldn’t believe she was holding the fact that he only left to try to find help against him as abandonment when it wasn’t.
**End of spoiler**
