Ricki Sparks knows she can make a mean red velvet cake but can’t believe she’s let herself be talked into a blind date. When she opens the door to see the man she’s been secretly sweet on since the first day he walked into her bakery, she fears her heart will be demolished. At least she knows she’s in for a wild ride.
With a past like his, private investigator Garrett McBride doesn’t feel he’s … doesn’t feel he’s worthy of a good woman’s love. Especially not Ricki, the sweet, beautiful baker. But its not just her delectable baked goods that keep him coming back and it isn’t long before he admits to himself that he wants her for his own. He never suspects that the greatest danger to her may come not from himself, but from the deceitful woman Ricki has befriended.
Love may not be the only thing Ricki falls into along the way as she finds herself in a world of deceit and betrayal that may cost her life. While Ricki is fighting for her life, Garrett must find her, before it’s too late.

I enjoyed this story. The story flow and content were decent, and the characters were interesting. The suspense was okay, not intense until near the end. I haven’t read the previous four books in the series, but it wasn’t necessary to follow the story. Although, it piqued my interest to go back and start from the beginning, as the author makes several references to things that happened previously. When a new woman comes to town, Garrett’s private investigator instincts are up? But will he decipher the feelings of unease he feels whenever Dee comes around in time to save the woman who has captured his heart? Will Ricki see through her new friend’s devious plan? Have Garrett and Ricki found true love. These questions are all answered in this captivating story of love. My only dislike, which is a matter of personal taste and no knock against the author, is that there is too much detailed sex. I like my romances a little cleaner and focusing more on the romance of a story and not the sex. The narrator did a good job and had a clear voice and professional editing. **I was offered a free audio book in exchange for a review, which in no way influenced my opinion,
I enjoyed reading this book very much. You had the right combo of romance and intrigue.
The story was well written and held my attention every minute! I could not put it down… so many unexpected turns and a great story with well defined characters.
Romance with some suspense.
Loved It
Ricki opened her bakery in Prescott after her nasty divorce. She needed away from Phoenix and her family and was doing really great. Garrett was afraid of relationships because he didn’t want to hurt anybody like his dad did. But he likes Ricki. When Aunt Madge set them up on a blind date it was a good thing. Except for the scary stalker lady acting like Ricki’s friend.
Loved it!!
Enjoyed all the characters. Truly a romantic novel.
I was mislead by the cover because I thought this was a cowboy story. But it was still a good read
Great book!
I liked the intrigue. It’s very well written.
It was so good. I now have to buy the rest of the series 🙂
Good and easy reading
Super!
Well worth
The read if you like western romance
I enjoyed this book—great reading—there are some sexual situations, but over all a great read!!
Fast moving- fun
Good book, enjoyed reading it.
This is probably one of the most scary stories I have ever read. Living in Arizona and knowing how many strange people are there, it’s not beyond the scope of happening. This felt like it was lifted from some of the news stories out of the valley.
I think I liked this book. I have been reading this series and before that Rough & Ready. As a result the stories are sounding a like. Not that they aren’t all good, relaxing diversions, they are, but same theme, diffrent characters. The other family members are not brought into the stories here much at all so ….
This story had a diffrent little kick to it that was interesting and innovative. I liked that and am looking forward to reading the next to see if there is again something in it.
Recommended, just maybe not the whole series at once.
Good read.
