From Sparking the Fire author Kate Meader comes the second novel in Hot in Chicago, a brand-new, sizzling series that follows a group of firefighting foster siblings and their blazing hot love interests As the only female firefighter at Engine Co. 6, Alexandra Dempsey gets it from all sides: the male coworkers who think she can’t do the job, the wives and girlfriends who see her as a threat to … her as a threat to their firefighter men, and her overprotective foster brothers who want to shelter their baby sister at all costs. So when she single-handedly saves the life of Eli Cooper, Chicago’s devastatingly handsome mayor, she assumes the respect she’s longed for will finally come her way. But it seems Mr. Mayor has other ideas…
Eli Cooper’s mayoral ratings are plummeting, his chances at reelection dead in the water. When a sexy, curvaceous firefighter gives him the kiss of life, she does more than bring him back to the land of the living–she also breathes vitality into his campaign. Riding the wave of their feel-good story might prop up Eli’s flagging political fortunes, but the sizzling attraction between them can go nowhere; he’s her boss, and there are rules that must be obeyed. But you know what they say about rules: they’re made to be broken…more
Alex is the baby sister and only girl in the Demsey firefighter clan and she has caught the eye of the Mayor. She also has a foul mouth and temper to rival a mean dog but she is loyal to a fault so don’t get on her bad side. Mayor Eli Cooper wants Alex and even if he has to manufacture a reason to keep her close. These two are spectacular together. The chemistry is explosive and the narrator on the audio version of this one was much, much better than the first. I just wish the third was out in audio!
You HAVE to read this book!
This book, this series, this author. Wow, I can’t explain the hold her stories, the characters have on me. Well, Alex and Eli can tell you – cuz they are fab-u-lous!
Part of a firefighting family, they were brought together by love and through the pain and sorrow that is their shared past, they would fight the world to protect each other. Considering they battle fires for a living, and live in the crazy, zany world we all inhabit, that is a tall order indeed. You see that spirit when any of them are threatened and when Alex takes an opportunity to make a point, and she’s in a whole lot of trouble, the family is ready…
Eli is her unexpected champion as the two of them together are at loggerheads. Mayor, natty dresser, king of his city, he hasn’t endeared himself to her or her brothers. So what if he sets her heart and libido on fire – she is a professional and knows how to put those out, right? Maybe not this time and wow were the skirmishes a whole heck of a lot of fun! They were extreme heat through all the ups and downs with so much heart and humour behind it, I turned pages like a fan on tornado…
Hot, heated and so much fun, I didn’t want their story to end. Needless to say, I can’t wait for more and Wyatt, he is in my sights…
*I happily reviewed this story
**Thank you to NetGalley
We’ve gotten to see Alexandra and Eli go tit for tat in the previous books and I was looking forward to them getting their own book. They absolutely had chemistry and I loved the push and pull but the story was just ok. I enjoyed it, but it just didn’t blow me away. I actually thought several times that Alex made a big deal out of nothing and I wanted to slap her! If you’ve enjoyed the previous books, this fits in nicely. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
When caught with their hands in the cookie jar Alex and Eli have an interesting, humorous time:
Eager to be just as helpful, she pulled on his zipper, but it got stuck.
“You’re too”— hung, erect, hot for me—“oh, God, fix it!”
He grunted in pain as the zipper jammed against his not-deflating-anytime-soon erection. She had no time to be flattered.
“Alexandra, I can handle my own effing ***k.”
Alex isn’t afraid to let her man know when he’s slacking, “your morning -after care sucks, Cooper. I wake up and there’s no hard peen nudging my butt demanding attention.” I love this series the men are dominant and the woman have sass. This is my favorite out of the series I loved Eli
I loved this book. This has got to be one of my favorite couples ever. I did like Flirting With Fire and Melting Point (Books 1 & 1.5) but this one (Book 2) has got to be my favorite so far in the series.
One thing that is book crack to me is a couple that goes from hating each other to loving each other. The sparks, the hate sex, the verbal forplay. GAHHH I just eat it up. I just enjoy reading those kinda books so much. It’s probably why I love this series. Each one of these books has had that in it but this last one I think out shined the other two.
I highly recommend you pick up this one and the rest of the series if you haven’t gotten to them yet.
Oh and I got such a kick out of where I live being mentioned in this book. That has never happened before! LOL
To some Alexandra Dempsey is working in a environment that she has no business being in, and to others she is a lone heroine conquering demon’s in a man’s world. But if you ask her she is right where she was always meant to be, fighting fires with her brothers, and following in the footsteps of her father. Being a part of this world has made her a little brash, tough as nails, taught her how to dish it out with the best of them and also left little room for her to tap into her femininity. She is ready to find her one true love, and settle down, the problem is, she keeps dating men who are intimated by her and the work she does, or their just out to score a night with the famed female firefighter.
Being a female firefighter has it perks of course, but it also has it downfalls too, like meeting people who think she isn’t cut out for her line of work, and one of those people is Chicago’s mayor Eli Cooper. Eli is a former marine, ex-lawyer, and total alpha male, and he believes men should take care of women, and he has strong opinions about women working in “men’s world’s”. So, when he meets Alex he is quick to point out his dislike for her being a firefighter, and she is quick to point out that she doesn’t give a crap what he thinks or how he feels about her line of work. He does however, have a soft spot for her, and every time they are near each other he has a hard time controlling himself, the woman drives him crazy in more ways than one!
With an upcoming re-election on the line Eli decides to proposition the famed firefighter, and woman who saved his life, in hopes of scoring more points with voters. The public likes seeing them together in the spot light and so he creates a sneaky little plan to re-earn the trust of voters and also hopes it will have her falling right into his lap…
This was my first experience with the “Hot In Chicago” series, and I have to say that I LOVED it! I am now planning on reading the other installments in the series so I can better acquaint myself with these hot firefighters!! I highly recommend you do the same, and meet the men, and woman, of Engine Co. 6!!
