4 Star Review of Playing Hurt (Aces Hockey #6) by Kelly Jamieson
This is book 6 in the Aces hockey series and can be read as a standalone. Over the last few years I have been reading more and more stories about hockey and thoroughly enjoy them. Kelly Jamieson has done a great job with this series and this is Chase Hartman and Jordyn Banks’s story.
When a flirtation between Chase and pop star Jordyn on twitter leads to a bet that Jordyn loses, she suddenly finds herself up close and personal with the oh so hot Chase. The chemistry between them is intense and yet both have their careers that they need to think about and neither believe that they have time for a romance. Or do they?
I loved the banter between Chase and Jordyn which had me laughing out loud on several occasions. The writing was strong and kept my attention and there were plenty of hot and passionate scenes.
As they get to know one another it is clear that there is more to their relationship that the flirtation that they both thought it was. What will happen when careers are affected? Will they decide to pursue a relationship or cut it off whilst they can?
This book had me laughing out loud more than once with the funny and suggestive tweets between Aces Player Chase and Pop Star Jordyn but the real deal came from one tweet that was a bet, that one had me in hysterics because it kinda hit home for me on a personal note. And one bet changed their lives forever…….
Playing Hurt is something all athletes do, don’t get me wrong they should not play if they are injured but hurt is a different story just ask anyone you know that is into sports. Kelly Jamieson did a wonderful job, in my opinion, in showing us the difference between the two in this book and really showing how playing injured can really affect the game. But honestly this doesn’t only apply to athletes it also applies to musicians especially singers like Jordyn. Both Chase and Jordyn have trials and tribulations in this book along with some additional angst, which for me wasn’t needed, they had been through enough.
I am really loving this series because each of the men find a strong woman that not only can handle their brand of crazy but is strong enough not to let them walk all over them and hold their own, actually I’d say some of the women do a great job of keeping their men in line…LOL
We are blessed with seeing some of the other players and some of the wives are pregnant so it’s really nice to watch as the ACES HOCKEY family grows. I would not only recommend this book to those whom enjoy sports romance but I would recommend the entire series. Happy Reading!!!

When the hockey star and the rock star meet sparks fly! Ashley@ White Hot Reads
Chase it he hockey star that has a crush on Jordyn the rock star and when their Twitter flirting turns into a date do can their worlds combine? They both are dealing with hurts that can be life altering and sometimes the one you want to count on is not the one you let hold you us. I really enjoyed this hockey book a new series to me that I will have to read more of.
4 1/2 stars
Chase OMFG Chase! He is such a cute fanboy over Jordyn in a non stalker way before they even met. Who hooks over twitter, but a hot hockey player and an upcoming pop singer. Losing a bet equals a fun date that leave both wanting more. Chase comes up with the cutest dates to take Jordyn on. His crazy sayings/ puns like ‘Let’s make like a baby and head out’ are a funny part of his personality that are seen through out the book.
Both are suffering from an injury they don’t want the public to know about, as they work through the mental issue that can come from a career ending injury. Reading them cling and fight with each other as they try to deal with the emotional issues and each other made for a great read.

This is a great addition to this series and stars Chase who is not having is best playing year and not sure why. The previous year he suffered an injury which healed but still seems to bother him on occasion but not all the time. He also has a secret obsession, Jordyn Banks. He has her pictures in his locker, his phone, and follows her on the internet. When they start flirting on twitter, all bets of off! Who knew Jordyn was a hockey fan! She may be a pop princess but she is originally from Chicago and a hockey fan and she and Chase are perfect together. A lost bet ends up in a date and the chemistry is instant. Then the unthinkable happens to Jordyn and she loses her singing voice and has surgery. She cannot sing for weeks and she goes back to Chicago to recuperate and Chase and Jordyn get closer. This book is not like the rest of the series in that these two are younger but it is still very good and well developed. Watching them and their issues come to a head was fun to read and I recommend this one. This can be read as a standalone but this entire series is great so why would you want to.
This is book 6 in the Aces Hockey Series but I do believe each one of these books can be read as a stand-alone but you will get a lot more out of this series if you read them all, this is Chase and Jordyn’s Story two celebrities in their own right falling for each other over a exchange of social media posts. Chase is a hockey player who has had a crush on singer Jordyn for as long as he can remember but it all becomes a bit more than a crush when he starts to follow her on social media and she starts responding to his posts who would have guested she felt the same way about him. When they finally meet sparks fly the chemistry is sizzling but can two people who are both in the public eye find a way to take it slow and have time together without paparazzi following them around…….
This book has plenty of spicy moments to keep you interested but it also has a lot of fun witty banter that will leave you smiling it’s about a couple that spend their life in the public eye and it’s only at the very end of this book do they get the HEA they both deserve. Great addition to one of my favourite series looking forward to more from this author and this series.
I really enjoyed this book! Both Jordyn and Chase are not looking for a relationship, their careers are a little up in the with them both going through what could be career ending injuries. Jordyn in a new and up in coming pop star but has found a tickle in her throat, hoping it’s nothing more than a cold but what it actually ended up being lead to surgery and a long recovery and resting her voice. Chase has a crush on Jordyn and is through the roof when he sees she’s following him on Twitter, with a wager on hockey and some “dirty” tweets they meet for a date, aw! But with Jordyn in LA and Chase in Chicago it looks like one dates all there’s going to be, yeah right! Great fun story with Chase being sexy, charming, funny and nice and Jordyn a sweet yet humble newbie star. It was a real fun read with humor and great chemistry!
This is the first book by Kelly Jamieson that I have read. Even though it is based on ice hockey (of which i know nothing!), the storyline was easy to follow without a background in this sport. Chase is a pro hockey player who has a crush on a pop singer named Jordyn and they start exchanging good-natured insults about their favorite teams. Their tweets are hilarious and filled with innuendos. Ultimately a bet is made resulting in a date. Both Chase and Jordyn are funny, smart and have a depth to their characters that are seldom written. Some of the expressions in this novel are laugh-out-loud funny! The plot is complex with a myriad of issues brought to the forefront of the relationship. This book was not rushed and you felt as though you got the whole story, not snippets. This book is for mature readers due to steamy sex scenes and graphic language. There is a HEA ending that is both believable and satisfying!
Chase has had a crush on pop singer Jordyn for a while and when they start flirting via tweets, he finagles a date with her. Jordyn loves hockey and since Chase started following her via social media and she has been watching him play when his games are telecast, she’s more than okay about meeting him up for a date. What follows is a relationship that would normally not come to fruition had Jordyn not had some issues that forced her out of the spotlight for a while. And yet, everything these two do seems very fortuitous indeed.
I loved watching Chase and Jordyn together. Their banter was always light hearted and fun, the chemistry between them smoking, and the dynamics of their relationship felt very organic. While I was aggravated a time or two at Chase’s touchiness regarding his own issue, I understood why he reacted the way he did. But he gave good grovel when he messed up and I’m a huge fan of the grovel.
This was a very enjoyable read that really doesn’t have a lot of drama or angst. What it does have is just enough to drive the story forward and make the reader question how these two will eventually make a life together. It’s got a great pace to it, fun secondary characters, enough pain in the past to make your heart hurt, and a satisfying conclusion.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I gobbled this one right up. I’m a sucker for hockey romance so I had to read this one. Plus I’m a big fan of Kelly Jamieson’s writing. I instantly was invested in Chase and Jordyn’s story. They were exactly who each other needed in their corner especially Chase. Learning his background and the insecurities he has deep inside making that bet with Jordyn was one of the smartest decisions he made. While reading this one I could feel the connection and emotions from the characters. One part of the book that stood out to me was their first date. It was absolutely perfect and it’s something I would enjoy myself. I would definitely recommend reading this one!
Chase and Jordyn are both focused on their careers when an online flirtation turns into a real-life date. Their romance develops slowly, as each is having to deal with a potentially career-ending injury as well as a history of not being able to trust enough to maintain a relationship. Theirs is a sweet love story, a little angsty, a lot steamy, complete with a triumphant HEA.
I loved the slow build-up, and I enjoyed the friendships they each have with their “people” and teammates. This is a terrific story that had me turning the pages non-stop. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I found the book interesting and engaging even If I thought the heroine was a piece of work and needed to grow up.. I wanted more hockey out of it and the family issues felt a little too much in my opinion
The Chicago Aces are back! Although this is the 6th book in the series, there is absolutely no reason you can’t read this as a standalone.
Chase and Jordyn are both celebrities in their own right (Chase is a hockey star and Jordyn is a pop star), but strike up a “friendship” via social media, which eventually leads to them meeting in person. Sparks fly immediately, but both of them feel they aren’t in a place (both physically and emotionally) to get into a relationship at the moment. However, fate intervenes and what starts out as a little bit of fun, turns into a steamy, relationship.
Unfortunately, Chase has a heck of a lot of baggage to deal with which not only affects his relationship with Jordyn, but ultimately impacts his career as well. It was nice to see him be able to recognize what was happening and (eventually) work through the hang-ups, to move his relationship with Jordyn forward. Jordyn has her own issues, thanks to her own history, but they’re far less impactful than Chase’s, IMO. Nevertheless, combine the two and there’s some angst and drama, but not a ton.
All-in-all, this was a solid addition to Jamieson’s Aces Hockey series.

3.5
I liked the concept and plot of this book. There were great moments throughout and some good twists throw in.
Sadly, there’s a but to this. At times I felt the characters sounded immature, like they were still in high school, but they’re both in their mid-twenties. I thought they would sound more adult. The way some scenes were written, sounded almost as if the book was supposed to be young adult, but then there are dirty jokes and blissful moments between Chase & Jordyn.
The last few chapters it got better, and I would definitely give this author another shot, but this book wasn’t for me.

Fantastic story and a great addition to the Aces Hockey series. Really enjoyed this storyline as Chase, and Ace’s hockey player and Jordyn, a famous singer bond over their love of hockey through twitter. Chase has always been a huge fan of Jordyn’s so he flippantly throws out a bet. If his team wins she meets him for a date. Even wilder – she agrees! When they finally come face to face sparks fly instantly. Then they both have issues that affect them professionally. Weathering all the obstacles before them may be more than they can handle.
I think everyone will enjoy this one. I definitely recommend it.
I have become a fan of Kelly Jamieson and her Aces Hockey series are some of the best sports series I have read. Playing Hurt is no exception. When Chase has the chance to meet up your music star Jordyn, he can’t believe it. He swears he not a not star struck, unless you count all the pinup posters he has. Despite the ribbing from his teammates, he knows there is a real attraction between the two and when injuries happen that could cut both their careers short, will their love be able to stand the test.

I’ve enjoyed every single book in Kelly Jamieson’s Aces Hockey series and this one was no exception. Playing Hurt was a solid addition.
Chase Hartman is a standout on the Chicago Aces hockey team and he happens to have a crush on Jordyn Banks, an ultra popular pop star who lives in LA. When Chase discovers that Jordyn is also a hockey fan, he ends up sending her a tweet on Twitter which starts a very public and flirty conversation between the two. Not even thinking, Chase throws out a bet in their conversation and if he wins, he wants a date with the songstress. He never thinks she’ll agree, but she does. In the end, he wins the bet and a date.
Once they figure out how to make a date fit into their very busy schedules, the two hit it off immediately. While neither of them are looking for anything serious, they find in one another something they haven’t been able to find elsewhere and that is the ability to just be themselves. When Jordyn is forced into a hiatus from singing, she ends up spending her time in Chicago (which happens to be her hometown), which enables she and Chase to spend more and more time together. Chase is struggling on the ice and so having Jordyn around is also a benefit to him as well.
While Chase is supporting her through her difficulties, Jordyn wants to do the same for him as they attempt to figure out what is going on with him and causing him not to play up to his potential. The question is, will he allow her to or will demons from his past end up rearing their ugly head?
I enjoyed this book and I feel like it definitely fits with the times with so many people connecting over social media. It was a solid addition to the Aces series and I’m definitely looking forward to the next installment of this series!
