I’m a simple guy. I love football. I hate sports reporters. No matter how luscious they are.TateChloe Smith is dangerous. I know this the minute she stalks me into the training room for a story. She’s too ambitious to be trusted and too beautiful to be ignored.ChloeTate Fontanna is ridiculous, playing hurt as if he’s irreplaceable. Another one-track minded jock. But he’s too decent to be dismissed … minded jock.
But he’s too decent to be dismissed and too hunky not to want. Badly.
Tate
Bad press is the last thing I need in a contract year and I need to avoid it at all cost.
But avoiding Chloe is a lot harder than it should be.
When the sh*t hits the fan, can I trust her?
Or will she betray me?

I really enjoyed this enemies to lovers sports romance. The author did an excellent job of building their slow burn relationship. The story itself was funny, heartwarming, tragic and well written. The characters were well developed. The way the author presented the characters’ backstories was well done and helped the reader understand their perspectives.
Chloe Smith is a second generation sports reporter with an in your face attitude tempered with moments of Southern gentility. Tate Fontanna is a middle linebacker for the Boston Militia football team with a well deserved hatred and distrust for reporters. They meet in pre-season training camp and immediately clash though both feel an instant attraction. The struggle between their attraction and their jobs sets them up for a potential train wreck especially when their mutual friends set them up on a blind date. The struggle builds to a climax when Chloe has to choose between her feelings for Tate and her job. Highly recommend.
I loved this sexy and heartwarming enemies to lovers sports romance with unforgettable characters and a well-crafted story that kept me totally involved in all that was happening and on an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end. I loved Boston Militia linebacker Tate Fontana and enjoyed his dynamic with his teammates, family and especially his undeniable chemistry with sports reporter Chloe Smith. Ms. Queen blew me away with this steamy and emotional read and gave me an afternoon of reading pleasure. “Playing for Keeps” is the perfect escape from everyday stress and I look forward to more from this gifted author. I received an advance reader copy and am voluntarily leaving my review. I also purchased a copy to read again later.
Opposites attract …. slow burn romance
Playing for Keeps is the first book in the Playing series that I have read and I liked it. The story is about Chloe Smith and Tate Fontana and has a sexy and fun enemies to lovers slow building romance plot. Tate is a member of the Boston Militia football team and Chloe is a sports reporter. These two are immediately on opposite sides of things and they fight so much that you just know there are other feelings deep down. Eventually there is a blind date through friends which can go one of two ways.
I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
This was a very enjoyable enemies-to-lovers story. The book blurb and other reviewers have done a wonderful job summarizing the storyline, so you definitely don’t need me to waste your time and do that also. Instead, let me tell you that the buildups in this book create palpable energy – first there is dramatic buildup to Tate and Chloe getting together, and then there is ominous buildup to the inevitable relationship explosion – because you know that her “human interest” news story about him is going to tear them apart. Heartbreak, loss, trust and forgiveness are some key themes in this book.
This is a romance book so you know where it’s basically going in the end – it’s the author’s considerable skill that entices you to keep turning those pages so you can experience how the main characters get to their HEA. This is an emotional story in a lot of different ways, and the character development is great. If you’ve read other books in the series, you’ll enjoy seeing the secondary characters in this book because they have appeared before. If you’re not familiar with this series, no worries, you can absolutely enjoy this as a standalone.
I would have liked this book better if Tate was paired off with someone, anyone else other than Chloe. I did not care for her at all. She made reading the book a chore.
This was the first book I have read by Stephanie Queen and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though this book is a part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. But now that I’ve read this, I will definitely be going back and reading the rest of the series!
Both Chloe and Tate were interesting characters and the story is told in a dual perspective, first person narrative.
Tate is an NFL player who is trying to obtain a new contract. Four years ago, Tate’s Uncle died and due to events that took place at the funeral he now hates the media; especially reporters.
Chloe is a reporter who is trying to prove herself while walking in her Father’s footsteps. I liked her spirit and her chemistry with Tate was evident from the get go.
This book is a slow burn romance as the two leads have lust between them for the first half of the book before it starts to progress into more.
Stephanie Queen has created a universe with some great characters and the plot, although not new, is still enjoyable.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Tate has an injury and he’s trying to keep it under wraps because he’s due for contract renegotiation. Chloe is the daughter of a sports reporter and she wants to make her mark in the same business. She has an idea for an exposé about Tate.
But when she meets him, she realizes how hot she is for him. He’s also very attracted, but he hates sports reporters. Are they going to act on their attraction even though they are enemies?
This book is part of a series, but it is completely self-standing. It also has explicit sex scenes in the book. It is definitely adult reading. If you like reading sexy stories about football players, I think you’ll enjoy this book.
An absolute pleasure to read and I loved it! A wonderful love story that starts out with Tate and Chloe being enemies. He’s a football player who distrusts the media and she’s a sports reporter. The two will find themselves drawn to each other the more time they spend around each other. A matchmaking friend will set the two up together and things will be well until a secret she’s been hiding backfires. It will push them apart for awhile until a surprise will bring them back together, this time for good.
I am volunteering my honest review for an ARC copy of this book.
