Done with being the world’s biggest pushover, Haley decides that things are going to start changing. The first thing that she was going to do was to put a stop to all the crap that her aggravating neighbor put her through. What she hadn’t expected was to be sucked into his world, but Haley has a game plan and she won’t let herself forget what the bad boy next door is capable of.
The last thing … last thing that Jason expected was for his shy little neighbor to go Rambo on him over some ruined flowers, but he quickly got over it once he realized exactly what he’d been missing. After he decides to take her under his wing, he can’t help but notice how nicely she fits in his life. Now the only thing left to do was to convince her that this is anything but a game.
*Author’s Note:
There is no rape in any way, shape or form in this book. That is one thing that readers will never have to worry about reading in any of my books. Haley does in fact save herself for the right man and since that man is a Bradford, I’m sure that many readers would agree that she made an excellent decision 😉

I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much reading a book until I read this one. OMG! It was freaking hilarious and the series title fits it so well. This book is entertaining, heartwarming, steamy romance, full of drama, had multiple laugh out loud moments, leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy and a smile on your face. Once I got started reading it, I could not put down. Characters were loveable and believable. Jason’s food obsession will keeps you laughing throughout the entire book. Would definitely recommend as a fun sexy read and can’t wait to read more in this series.
Cute story. I loved that Haley was the hot nerd. She had such a sweet personality, but also a bit of a pushover. What I liked was that the story started out with her starting to stand up for herself and seeing that progress throughout the book made the bearable. That’s the only way I can deal with a pushover heroine.
Jason was the hot/jerk/player. Not my favorite combination in a hero because I just don’t tolerate some of that behavior. However, I felt like he started to become a better person from the start of the book because of Haley just as she changed from the beginning. It made dealing with the dislikes of both their personalities way easier.
I actually really liked these two together and I loved that they started out as friends first. Jason fell in love with Haley and was clueless about it. It was cute. I also listened to the audiobook and the narrator was really good. This is the first time I have listened to Fran Jules and I am happy to add her to my favorite narrator list.
The First time I ever hear of R.L Mathewson was program like like audible plus program. This is the Second I have listen to on audible books. Playing for keeps is a funny book the Narrator “Fran Jules” did a great job playing both characters it made the book more funnier hearing the voices. Mathewson did a awesome job with this first book she nail all the point what a Neighbor from hell can be like “crazy party next door”, “peeing in the front yard right in front your neighbor”, and list can got on. There some many reason I love this book it made me laugh so hard because the main guy character Jason Bradford I was so shock how much Jason is a foodie I swear to god he has a food obsession that not healthy. But, so funny to listen how far he willing to go get cookies candy and food. I was shaking my head at in one of the chapters when Jason into Haley’s bedroom to cuddle because he could not sleep. Would I recommend this book yes, I ended up buying in on kindle with audio-whispers where cool affect it highlights the word while reading it. I love that feature it helps me follow along with the book. I have reread/ listen too this book multiple times.
This one is crazily absurd, but I enjoyed the listen. I’m not actually sure why, because I don’t really enjoy the characters much. For obvious reasons!
Playing for Keeps started out great! I absolutely loved the characters- and all of their eccentricities! But how things happened their first time… that really didn’t sit well with me. And from there, I could not get myself back into it (I did finish the book, but I couldn’t get over it).
I did enjoy the writing style, and I did find it funny, especially the Bradford family!
R.L. Mathewson knows how to write a romantic comedy like no other. I love the Bradford boys so much and Jason is the perfect intro to this series. R.L wrote a hilarious romance featuring Jason Bradford who is a fun and compassionate teacher that isn’t ready to settle down and has an insatiable for food…especially baked goods, buttercream frosting, the Yankees and his “sweet little Grasshopper” (Hailey). I loved their banter, how their relationship truly grew from friends to more. R.L nails the feel good romance with this first book, I was smiling and laughing almost the entire way thru and I need to note that I have read this series multiple times thru.
This was the funniest book I’ve read since making changes and making sense by Lila Rose. This book was so good I couldn’t put it down and I have to thank Belinda Donaldson for the recommendation. Jason and Haley have been neighbours for five years . And in the five years Jason has been a thorn in her side . What with all the parties loud music and screaming women banging on his door at all hours of the day and night it’s enough to do her head in . But there’s no getting away from him considering he is also her work colleague at a pristages high school.
Jason is a man whore he admits it freely just the thought of settling down and committing to one person is enough to send him into shock . That is until one day he decides to pluck the flowers out of his neighbours garden and she attacks him with her water hose and soon they are wrestling for it in the mud amungst a beehive. Hilarity ensues and I was laughing so hard at these two characters who were obviously meant to be together from the get go. I highly recommend this series it’s so funny and the stubbornness of these two characters I must admit had me rolling my own eyes at certain times but it all came together nicely I loved it.
I love this story. I’ve read it multiple times and it’s still wonderful. The characters are great and well developed. They are very relatable and there are a lot of feels.
Haley had everything she wanted (for the most part) until she got a new neighbor. When Jason Bradford moved in next door to her, her life had been a living hell that she couldn’t escape. Haley has always avoided conflict and that may make her the world’s biggest pushover, Unfortunately for Jason, Haley has had enough and she is going to make sure that he knows that he has pushed her too far.
Jason is stunned when his shy little neighbor confronts him. He didn’t think that she would acknowledge his existence since it had been years but now that she had, he found out there was more to her than he had realized. Once Jason decides to take her under his wing, he can’t help but notice how great of a buddy she is. Well, maybe she is more than a buddy since they fit in each other’s lives quite nicely.
Jason and Haley are the best. They had me cracking up. I loved that Haley thought she was a bad*ss and Jason was like, uh-huh. This is a great story and I definitely recommend reading it. Or listening to it, since that is also fun!
4*
Haley is totally fed up of her inconsiderate neighbour Jason so decides to take matters into her own hands.
Jason is surprised by the chance his grasshopper took.
Things change quickly without either of them realizing.
I loved the easy banter between them & the chemistry.
The book gave me lots of laughs.
A new author for me & one I would read more from.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book
Loved this book. It is one of my favorites and I have read it at least 5 times. Great characters and very funny
This book is the beginning of a love affair with the entire Neighbors form Hell family! The Bradfords love their women, kids and food (not necessarily in that order) more than anything else!
Oh my fucking God!!!!
I couldn’t stop laughing while reading this book. I loved how Jason and Haley were first enemies then became friends before they became more. But, one this that got me was the way that Jason was when it came to food.
This series has been on my TBR list for a while now, and now I wish that I had read it sooner. And if the rest of the books are like this one I can’t wait to read them all.
I love this book. The characters were hilarious. I have never enjoyed a book more. Haley with her fist of fury. Jason and his appetite. I almost cried at times. I want to thank the author, R.L. Mathewson, for writing this.
I liked it but Jason and Haley drove me nuts, for teachers they seemed immature at times, mainly Jason. I did enjoy the epilogue, great ending. All in all I’m still going to continue reading the A Neighbor From Hell Series.
This is an excellent series of books. You’ll fall in love with the characters
I truly love this book. I can’t even begin to describe how much. This is a feel good book that has some drama but not a huge amount that will take away from the feel good feeling.
Jason Bradford was…….. A Bradford. That’s all that I can say. He had his moments where he wasn’t a swoony hero but overall his goofiness and dedication made him a perfect hero.
Haley was a strong heroine. She had a take no crap attitude and I love how she finally stood up for her self. She starts off as this shy woman, but explodes into a kick butt woman that I want to be best friends with.
The plot will have you rolling on the floor with laughter. I swear that there were very few parts that brought a laugh out of my mouth. I have no clue where this author came up with this stuff but it was gold!
If you want a book that will have you laughing til you have tears then this book is for you. Don’t wait any longer and get it now! 4 stars #2OCCJD
Jason cracked me up, “Jason gave Haley a lecture on his manliness and something about her being a bad grasshopper, whatever the hell that meant.” Like a typical man he blames his woman for things, “look, woman, I don’t know what you did, but I haven’t been able to sleep since we got back from New York. I’m tired and b****y and all I want is some sleep so cuddle your a** up with me or so help me I will kill you!” Jason snapped.” Also like a typical man he only thinks of one thing well two because his stomach is like a bottomless pit but generally it’s his girl naked, “he narrowed his eyes on her. “But, you’ll still sleep with me naked and let me do a hundred other naughty things to you?” he asked in a serious tone.” I liked this book there was humor and love and sex and in really liked it.
LOVE this series! Read them all multiple times!!
Love R.L. Mathewson’s Neighbors from Hell series! Always funny, loving, and full of charismatic characters
This story is bittersweet! Somehow it felt like Jason and Haley’s just a pair of teenage or gollege couple. It’s hard to imagine that Jason’s thirty years old man and Haley’s twenty nine years old. Hahaha. That’s just cute.
But there’s one thing that bothers me. The sudden-change on Haley’s side is kind of extreme. I mean, she ignored and let’s just say “stay away” from Jason for like five years and all of a sudden, BOOOM! They’re best friend and Haley turn into this easy going, cheerful and sarcastic girl. Too fast, I think.
But overal, this book is awesome. Now I get why people keep buzzing around for reading this book. Already purchased the 2nd one, can’t wait to devoured every single page. :)))
Way to go, Miss Mathewson!
