This was one INCREDIBLE college romance novel from ML Sparrow. I am such a fan of college romance series and I think I found a new one to obsess with for a while, well as long as ML Sparrow desires to give us said college romances. There is a lot to be said about the years that young adults experience while attending college. It is the jumping point into adulthood and I love that whole twist on a coming of age type scenario. This book offers a lot of that. Chloe and Parker not only find themselves, but a way to each other’s hearts along the journey.
I adored Chloe. She was such a relatable character with a history that has been instrumental in the way that Chloe has chosen to live now. She has a difficult past that haunts her, but she doesn’t let it stop her. I love that about her, she lifts herself above the drama, and seeks normalcy, whatever that is supposed to be for her.
We get a handsome dose of Parker in this book as well. He is the epitome of a jock, with the reputation of a playboy, or ‘player’. This man has been known to avoid the relationship word. He loves them and leaves them. But all that changes when he meets Chloe. His confusion to why he is so drawn to her is cute. It takes him some time to figure things out, but once he does… Yeah things get good! He has his reasons though for not wanting relationships that last longer than a night, and I was surprised at what is revealed about him. But I loved that it made him seem realistic, and so much more relatable.
The supporting characters really play a significant role in this novel, and I can see where we will get more novels about each of them, and I am anxiously awaiting their books. If you love slow burn romance with the coming of age mix of emotions, this is the book/ series for you. You will find yourself one-clicking each and every one to come. I am onto book two, Flirt right now!
I give 5 stars to Player:A college Romance (What happens on campus Book 1) written by ML Sparrow.
This is the first installment of the What Happens on campus series.
Chloe Newman leaves the UK for a new life in the USA after being accepted to St Joseph University Texas. Still riddled with guilt from a massive traumatic event, the last thing she expected was to gain the interest of the school quarterback, but not only is he a player on the field but also off.
After ruff start Parker and Chloe’s relationship starts to grow.
Christmas break comes up and Parker asks Chloe home with him this is where the real test of their relationship starts. Parker begins to be pulled back in to his old life.
There is a great connection between characters and is written really well. This book has got me dying to get my hands on the next.
I really can’t wait to get hold of Flirt and read on Riley.
I found Player by M.L. Sparrow more enjoyable than the last couple of NA Sport Romance books that I have read. The writing was smooth and very evenly paced. I liked that the romance wasn’t rushed and even though Chloe and Parker tried to be friends first; they both knew it wasn’t going to work. This book is the perfect world building book; most of that drama sets around the other characters to set up those books. Don’t get me wrong, Chloe and Parker did have their share of drama but they fit together so well it didn’t make too big of a mess for their relationship. Overall, I would recommend this book if you’re looking to start a new New Adult College romance series.
Emotional blast. How can you get away from something so traumatic that it changes your life and the way you view it? Runaway to another country. That was the idea for Chloe, but not the answer to the problem. Campus heartthrob and quarterback captures her attention and then some on their first encounter. Dare I say a player with a hidden gentleman inside.
With each new encounter and interaction the relationship began to expand and become more. Parker received something more from Chloe than every before. Or could that be by choice. There was just something about Chloe. That something about Chloe brought out the haters. Campus life meant everyone was in your business including the ex/exs. Then being with family can be a good thing or bad depending on your circumstances. Lets just say that it was not all roses for the two.
I found Chloe engaging. A bit neurotic but that was to be expected with her trauma. Parker was not that dirty dogg college boy player that was displayed for the world. But he was in a way. He was complex in his own way.
My first read from Sparrow and I have to say that she has me hooked. I want more of What Happens on Campus. The characters are well rounded. The secondary characters enhance the primary. The depth of emotions experienced was rich and raw at the same time. I am not sure of the secondary characters experienced who I wish to see next. OR will it be that we head off to a new campus and meet some newbies.
M L Sparrow is a new author to me and Player is the first book I’ve read by this author. I love college romances and this book didn’t disappoint. Whilst it’s about your typical player jock falling for the new girl, it’s also so much more as we see Chloe dealing with the aftermath of a tragic accident that took away someone she loved. We also learn about Parker’s past, and you can’t but help fall slightly in love with him. There’s some very likeable characters in this first book of a series that I’m looking forward to keeping updated with, and I’m excited to learn that Riley’s story is up next. We get glimpses of what’s happened to Riley in this book, but I’m left wanting to know more and will be heading straight to book 2, Flirt, now. This is a book, and series, that I’m happy to recommend to anyone and everyone.
Player: A College Romance (What Happens on Campus Book 1) by ML Sparrow and is a Young Adult college romance story and the first book in the series but you do not have to be a young adult to enjoy this story. The story is well written and any one who loves this genre will love this. The story is told in the different POV’s of the main characters which, as always, gives you that much needed insight to a character that you would not otherwise get. Unfortunately, running away does not fix problems, they follow you everywhere but learning to live with those problems and forgive yourself, then you will truly heal. Of course a hunky football player and a strong emotional connection with said hunk, certainly helps.
This story will please those of you who love YA college romance stories. I am off to read the next book, Flirt.
Player by M.L Sparrow is Book 1 in the What Happens on Campus Series, and I liked it alot! I really like Chloe. She is grounded, and has a tendency of looking out for, and even grounding all of the people she loves. Her life is not without heartache, and yet she strives really hard to live her life aside from her grievances. I also really like the Parker that she meets, and cannot reconcile that guy with the “Player” he is/was before he meets Chloe. Overall, this story easily will captivate any person looking for a little action/tragedy while also hoping for a romance and HEA, and I’m looking forward to discovering what else this series has to offer! 5 out of 5 stars!
Player: A College Romance by M.L. Sparrow is the first book in the What Happens on Campus series. The story is about Chloe, who chooses to attend university in Texas versus in England where she is from. She meets Parker, the school quarterback, who is quite the charmer. The story is a well written young romance set in a college setting. I enjoyed the characters and the story. There are lots of emotions and they help to guide the story. I have read books by Sparrow before and again this did not let me down. I look forward to reading the next in the series and more from Sparrow in the future.
Player is a new adult romance by M.L. Sparrow and the first book in the What happens on Campus series. Chloe is trying to come to terms with a tragic accident when she decides to accept a scholarship to university in America, she leaves her life in England behind to start fresh in Texas. Her first night there she meets Parker, he is hot, charming, the quarterback and a total player but their chemistry is off the charts! Can these two find a way to find love and happiness? I really enjoyed this book, it’s everything I look for in a new adult romance, an unlikely couple, realistic problems and great secondary characters. I look forward to reading more in this series!
I loved how his book is more realistic than other romances out there where it seems the H and h are already in love by the end of the second page. This book will definitely take you on an emotional ride.
Parker is the heart throb of his college football team. Chloe is attending college very far away from home to escape the memories that trouble her over her brother’s death. The interactions between the two were electric. I loved how Parker slowly knocked down Chloe’s defenses and he weaseled his way into her heart.
I loved all the characters in this book. The secondary characters were amazing and I want more of them. Definitely a one click read and I cannot wait to read book 2!
Player: A College Romance, What Happens On Campus Series book 1 by M L Sparrow is a hot new romance following the romances that come from college campuses and beyond. Following the story of Chloe and Parker, finding that they are more alike than different, and that love between them will burn hotter than either of them is prepared for. Chloe is a sweet, beautiful girl who is haunted by her past. Chloe is the girl that wants to find love, but once in a relationship only finds that she works with the right person but is only finding the wrong ones. Parker, has always been the player, whether its sports or girls. Parker is a man who doesn’t do relationships, his life is filled with football and nothing else. But there is something about Chloe that draws him in, making him rethink everything he thought he knew about himself and the way that he wanted his life to go. Starting as friends, Chloe gets to see Parker as the man that he is, and Parker to get bask in the light that seems to follow Chloe everywhere. But Parker is wanting more from Chloe, and fighting against her relationship only rules is getting harder to do. He wants something from her that he doesn’t readily understand, but giving up to Chloe seems to be the answer to a question he doesn’t know how to ask. Watching Chloe and Parker navigate a life where going from friends to more has never been harder. Getting to see both Chloe and Parker grow up and grow together was such a treat. I can’t say enough about this book, and hopefully this series will live up to book one. Sparrow is a newer to me author, and I am so happy I picked this book up. If you are looking for a great read that will be hard to put down, than this is one that you need to pick up today! I can’t wait to see where this series goes in the future.

Four Stars
Player: A College Romance is the first book in the What Happens on Campus Series by ML Sparrow. This is a change in genre than I’m used to from Ms. Sparrow, but once I started I couldn’t put it down till the very last page. The characters are believable, relatable and I could imagine this happening in college. Chloe and Parker have a chemistry, but the sporting characters really make this story pop. I enjoyed the witty banter and fast pace. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series. Overall this was a very entertaining summer read!

Player is the first book in the What Happens On Campus series and it is also my first book by this author. And i freaking LOVED it! I kind of have a soft spot for College romances, so when i saw this one, i got my grabby little hands on it as fast as i could.
The characters in this book are also FANTASTIC. They are extremely relateable and the story is so well written that i am able to feel what they are feeling as they are feeling it. This book is for sure one i would recommend to a friend, and i cannot wait until i can get my hands on book #2!

PLAYER is the first book in a new coming of age series. I’ve read some really good series in this genre and some really bad ones. This falls in the middle.
This is a slow burn with a lot of cliches that took me out of the story. Written in third person, the words “sugar” and “cos” are over used to the point that I made a drinking game out of it (and I don’t drink).
Overall, the story moves from point a to point b with a decent flow,. There are a lot of characters to meet and I am invested enough to continue on with the series.
Player is the first book in M.L. Sparrow’s What Happens on Campus series. It is not the first book I have read by this writer but it is completely different from the one I had read before picking up Player so I was not sure what to expect except knowing that as a writer, her story telling style was something that I had enjoyed enormously!
Player is an emotional young adult college sports story. You do not need to be a young adult to enjoy the story though! When a story is well written and the characters are easy to relate to, you can be of any age and draw parallels to your own life. I ‘ran away’ cross the ocean to another country to escape the demons I have, the same way as Chloe was trying to escape her problems. Unfortunately, both of us learnt that you cannot outrun your problems … and of course when you add a hunk of a football player into it, one who has no plans for a girlfriend, it is a recipe for disaster or actually, a day in the life of a college student learning to become an adult. Chloe and Parker have chemistry and it is an emotional journey they are taking to find themselves and each other.
I also loved the ‘supporting cast’ and I was shaft to see that some of them are getting their own stories so I am looking forward to spending more time at the campus!
Player by ML Sparrow is book one of the What Happens on Campus series. This book is a college romance. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see what book two offers.
Chloe has put her life on hold long enough and now finds herself headed to Texas from England to begin her college experience. This has been a dream of Chloe’s for quite some time and even though she still has guilt over the traumatic accident she experienced, she needs to move on and follow her dreams.
Parker Mitchell is definitely not someone that is looking for a relationship. The girls he is with know the score. When he meets Chloe by chance, there is just something about her he can’t shake. After some mishaps and a rocky beginning, these two try to wade their way through a relationship. If they will be able to make it together is a different story.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed and grew through the story so it didn’t seem rushed or impractical. I really can’t wait to read book two!
Player is book one in the “What Happens On Campus” series.
With more than one definition of a Player, Parker Mitchell was
the less flattering of them. Star quarterback of St. Joseph’s University, Parker loved playing more than just football.
All that changes when Parker meets new incoming Freshman, Chloe Newman. Chloe traveled all the way from England, not only for a scholarship, but also to distance herself from reminders of the tragedy that leaves her haunted with guilt. After a chance encounter on her first night on campus, Parker finds that Chloe is a game changer. Chloe is not like any of the girls Parker has been with in the past. She is looking for love. Try as Parker might…he can’t seem to get Chloe out of his head. Can Parker leave his player ways in the past to make a committed relationship Work? If so, can his past and her hers keep from interfering with their happily ever after?
This book is definitely a page turner. Looking forward to the second book.
Player-M.L. Sparrow
4-star review
Player by M.L. Sparrow is a great college romance! It’s the first book in the What Happens on Campus series, it’s sweet, romantic and relatable. It wasn’t an overwhelmingly action-packed storyline which I really appreciated as it gave me a better opportunity to know the characters on a deeper level.
I loved how well Chloe and Parker meshed together even though they came from such different worlds, it made for a really entertaining read with both their emotional upbringings and tragic pasts.
I really enjoyed this authors writing style as I was able to quickly jump right in to this story, I did find that the ending was rather abrupt, although it didn’t take away from the story, I look forward to hopefully getting answers to my questions in the next book!
This is a book I would recommend to anyone looking for their next romance read!

Rated 5 stars
This book was great! It kept me interested throughout. The story was nice and the characters developed. The two main characters have a nice connection between them. The secondary characters add much to this story.
Chloe is British!! This is a change because usually the man has the lovely accent that all the women swoon over. Shockingly men love the accent as much as women. Color me surprised! Chloe was lucky that she fell Into a group of friends via her roommate. I think that helped her focus on more than just school. She lives with a disturbing past that she struggles to overcome. Her family life and parents are amazingly good.
Parker is the resident sexy jock. He has slept with too many women to count. Once he sees Chloe though he cannot figure out what it is about her that attracts him. He wants more than friendship from her and he seems to go the extra mile to show her. He as well has a unsavory past and I was probably as shocked as Chloe when it was revealed.
The relationships between the characters was delightful. They are a group of friends brought together by sisterhood, roommate connections and friendship. Their interactions are true to life and give a good example of college life. I enjoyed the problems and the fun they had together. This group helped make this book so good.
This is my first book by this author as well as my first book in this series. I will be reading the next one. I was surprised that it’s not about who I thought it would be about. So now I’m more anxious to see what’s going to happen next.
Player: A college Romance by ML Sparrow is the first book in the What Happens On Campus series. If you enjoy YA novels then this is a book you will certainly want to read.
Chloe needs to get away. With a tragic accident haunting her she knows she has to do something drastic. Like accepting a scholarship to university – in Texas. Packing up and moving her life from England to a whole new world entirely is exactly what she needs to try and forget, to try and move forward.
On her first night in her new life she meets Parker. He is the quintessential All American boy – charming, gorgeous and the quarterback. He is always well known as a player. Not really something Chloe needs.
However their connection is obvious and so they set about trying to find a way to make things work between them. They fight to overcome their differences, ex-girlfriends and past baggage. But in the end it all comes down to whether or not they can overcome Parker’s family and their lifestyle.
I love reading college books like this so I was excited to get stuck into this one. It hit everything I could want out of a YA book. It had a great story with drama and passion. It had great characters with depth to their stories. It had a sexy sports player that makes you wish we could have all met one in our youth. This book certainly checks all boxes and I cannot wait to see what the rest of the series brings.
