She’s been playing it close…Ara Martin and college football star Ty Masters have been best friends since the first day of school when Ty literally ran her over. She fell for him immediately, but having lived under the shadow of her famous father, she knows a relationship with irresistible Ty would only end in heartbreak. For four years, she’s kept her feelings hidden. But one drunken encounter … drunken encounter weeks before graduation is about to expose Ara’s biggest secret and destroy her most treasured relationship.
He’s been playing for keeps…
Ty is about to be drafted into the NFL, but his personal life is a mess. He’s got an agent he doesn’t like, a brother who can’t stop offering his opinion, and a beautiful woman he craves but can’t have. He can fire his agent and ignore his brother, but he’s not sure what to do about Ara. Ty’s been able to run down every quarterback he’s faced, but his sexy, stubborn best friend keeps slipping through his fingers.
Luckily, he’s not one for giving up, and once he gets his hands on her, he’s never letting go.

Another great story from Jen Frederick. What’s not to love about a friends to lovers story? Ty and Ara have a beautiful friendship of love and support for one another. Ty is dedicated to football but you can tell right away he puts Ara first and takes their friendship seriously. They may have taken some time to figure out that they belonged together but it was an exciting, humorous and heartwarming journey to take with them.
*5 Stars*
Oh man, another best friends to lovers novel. These are my favourite! I loved this book. Another great addition to this series. Ara and Ty are the perfect fit, but they’re too stubborn to admit/realise their feelings for each other.
I enjoyed the learning curve with these, both with them coming to the realisations about their relationship, and with the other aspects of their lives as well.
I honestly don’t really know what to say about this apart from the fact that I loved it, and definitely recommend reading it. Devoured this one!

Played by Jen Frederick was the fourth book in the Gridiron series.
We originally met Tyler “Ty” Masters in book one, Sacked, as Knox’s twin brother. I loved Tyler from the start and even more with each encounter throughout the series. He gorgeous, funny, dedicated and loyal. He’s also a star football player and waited a year to enter the draft so he could win a college national football championship. He’s been best friends with Ava Martin for the past four years. He’s always been attracted to her but neither would admit it and they wanted to keep their friendship strong. They are both now graduating and things are beginning to heat up.
Played was written with a dual POV. It was well written and well developed. There wasn’t a ton of complexity and dimension, but there was a nice NFL Draft storyline running simultaneously along their relationship development. I also thoroughly enjoyed Ty’s interactions with his twin. It was humorous as well as heartfelt.
All in all, it was a fairly quick read and was enjoyable. Fredrick continued to introduce additional teammates, which will continue the series. Wyatt is up next in Delay of Game.
This is one of my favourite genre best friends to lovers and this is one of my favourite books that I have read. I am a big fan of Jen Frederick and have been looking forward to Ty’s book since the first book in this series with his twin brother.
I also loved how the tables turned in this book and it was the guy practically chasing the girl.
This book is sweet, sports related, best friends to lovers and the perfect mix of sweet and sexy. I loved how we got the characters in the earlier books and they were brought into the story perfectly and who couldn’t forget Knox loved it all
Ara kind of annoyed me a way but I can understand why she was like she was, her dad had stuffed up all his relationship and she only took the bad away from these and didn’t want to lose her best friend in Ty but she really really needed to get her head out of her butt and see what was right in front of her. I loved she was trying to make her way in the world by herself and didn’t want to take advantage of the people she loved.
I loved Ty I thought he was so sweet, he was also driven and focused on his future to the point he lived and breathed it and couldn’t keep a girlfriend but to be honest I think he always new what he wanted. Ty would be one of my favourite characters. He was funny smart and hot to the point I think I drooled reading this book.i loved how he didn’t get caught up in the hype of being the top dog and how he hated social media.
If your looking for a funny, heartwarming, best friends to lovers story then you have to read this book.
A big big 5 stars from me
This was a fun read for me. I enjoy a good best friends story when you know they should be a couple but they resist. Ara is a tough character, she has loved Ty from the day she met him but she is afraid of ruining a beautiful friendship. I truly understood this aspect of her life based on the examples set by her own parents. She is gun shy and chooses best friend status instead of risking losing Ty from her life. Ty is on the cusp of the NFL draft, his life is all about football and the one person he always makes time for is Ara. He has had girlfriends but he is always found lacking. There are some classic moments with his girlfriends. Ty loves his best friend but he works to maintain the best friend status because he doesn’t think Ara feels the same way. The road to their truth is rocky with lots of fun and sexiness along the way which held me captive as I took this ride with them.
Ty and Ara have been best friends since they ran into each other on campus 4 years ago. Even though both have been hiding stronger feelings for each other and did have one drunken hook-up, Are is convinced that staying friends is the best thing for them since friendship can last forever and relationships end. Cynical but also understandable when you start to get to know Ara.
I really liked Ty and Ara’s story but I didn’t love him as much as I loved Knox. Not fair, I know, since that basically makes me everyone else who compares the Masters twins. I loved their friendship, their interactions, their relationships with their families. I really hope Ty and Ara aren’t the end of the Gridiron series. I want to read about everyone!!
Best friends will cross a line they can’t go back from in Played. This is the fourth book in Jen Frederick’s Gridiron series, and is Ty’s long-awaited story.
Ty Masters is set to be drafted into the NFL. That makes it sound as if his life is great, in his mind however its anything but. He can’t stand his agent. His brother is annoyingly quick to offer his opinion on everything. His life is basically a mess. Then there is the fact that the one woman he wants he can’t have. His best friend Ara.
Ara Martin has been friends with Ty since the moment they literally ran into each other. She’s been in love with him for almost as long. She knows that a relationship between them is impossible, so she has managed to keep her distance in that aspect. After four years of friendship one drunken night threatens to change everything. Her secret feelings are out and it’s only a matter of time before she loses the one person she needs in her life. Her best friend Ty.
We first meet Ty in his brother Knox’s book Sacked. I don’t know about you but I have been impatiently waiting for his book since then. He is sweet and funny, and of course sexy! I love the dynamics between him and Ara. They both secretly want the other but neither is willing to do anything about it. It’s obvious from the start that they are made for each other. Sometimes I would get a little frustrated with the way they danced around what they were really feeling but it was all worth it in the end.
This is the fourth book and I suggest reading the others first. Not because you need to, but because it will give you a glimpse into Ty’s life that can make reading this one more enjoyable. Also, because you get to meet the other smoking hot men of the Gridiron series. Jen has scored another touchdown, FIVE stars!
