She has a head for business and a body for sin. He is a coach who knows how to use his equipment.Neither is looking for love. Should be easy, right? Wrong. This might be the most important game Kendall Wales and Hunter Owens have ever played where everything is on the line. With one wrong play, they could lose it all. Hopefully, the game clock doesn’t reach zero before it’s too late.*A stand … alone novel that combines Kelly Elliott’s The Playbook and Kristin Mayer’s Trust Me

This book was awesome! I love a good sports romance and I love everything Kelly Elliott writes. The two together, plus adding in Kristin Mayer, makes for an overall fantastic book.
Hunter and Kendall have amazing chemistry that we see as soon as the two meet. Sparks fly, but it does take some time for these characters to fully fall in love. The bickering back and forth these two do, had me laughing. Reading between the lines you know they are attracted to each other, but try to fight it off with banter.
Of course like any good story, there are some ups and downs, but I loved seeing the relationship between Hunter and Kendall evolve into something so special.
I can’t wait for more from these two authors!
It’s no secret that I am a huge Kelly Elliott fan, but I am ashamed to admit that I’ve never read a Kristen Mayer story before. That will definitely be changing after finishing Play Me. This collaboration was absolute perfection. The story line was seamless, unable to tell which author wrote what part.
Hunter and Kendall started off a little rough, but even then the chemistry was undeniable. Both characters are so head strong. Hunter is a go-getter, never backing down from a challenge. Kendall is also headstrong, determined to prove her strength and ability in a male dominated profession. It was so nice to read about a strong, independent, capable female I loved watching their relationship grow and Kendall coming to terms with her feelings.
Play Me is a fantastic sports romance full of love, laughter, and swoon-worthy moments. I highly recommend you give it a chance.
4.5 Stars!
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Kelly Elliott’s writing. So, when I heard that she was co-writing a book with author Kristin Mayer, I just knew I had to check it out. And let me tell you, these two do not disappoint. Their writing is flawless and captivating. The story they’ve written not only sucks you in, but leaves you hanging on to every last word.
Play Me was everything that I wanted and was looking for in this collaboration. The chemistry between Hunter & Kendall was explosive and their banter kept me on my toes. These two were like dynamite and I just couldn’t wait to see where their next interaction would take us.
I absolutely adored Kendall. She was strong, independent and totally career minded. She worked hard and wasn’t afraid to prove that she belonged in a man’s world. And then we have Hunter. He’s a former football coach that is content spending his days working on his ranch. That seems to be working well for him until Kendall shows up and makes him an offer he can’t possibly refuse….
What else can I tell you about Play Me other than I loved it?! From start to finish, I was completely captivated. The characters stole my heart instantly and I couldn’t help but fall head over heels for their story. From flawless writing and an entertaining plot to fun characters and a love worth fighting for, this book totally hit all of the marks. Hunter stole my heart with his swoon worthy words and his devotion to Kendall. And I loved seeing Kendall grow as a character and take risks and live the life she was always meant to live. Other than some minor drama, Play Me is a straight up beautiful romance that is destined to steal your heart. I loved everything about this story and this collaboration. I can’t wait to see what goodness this partnership will bring us readers next.
I’m a HUGE fan of Kelly Elliott, but I had never read Kirstin Mayer before. That’s all changing now!! This duo is insanely good!!
Play Me was brilliant. It had everything. Independent and strong heroine. Sweet and sexy alpha male! Part cowboy, part football coach. I mean, how can you ask for more??
Kendall and Hunter had me hooked from page one, like literally read in one sitting.
These authors together are brilliant and I’m so hoping they continue to collaborate!
5 ’Brave’ Stars
It’s official – Kelly Elliott and Kristin Mayer is my favorite writer duo. These two can write romance like no one ever. They put the ’ah’ into ah-mazing.
Play Me is such a fun and smart romance novel. I missed the Wales’ and as for the Owens – I’m eager to get to know them better. I guess this book just added to my TBR list, but whatever.
This story stole my heart. I enjoyed it so very much!
Kendall is everything I love in a heroine — she’s strong, independent, fierce and tender.
And Hunter made me swoon more than I care to admit.
Play Me is an absolute top read of this year!
Well, I already knew I loved Kelly Elliott’s writing, but I now think Kelly Elliott and Kristin Mayer writing together may just be my new favorite duo ever! Play Me is insanely good. It’s one of those reads you pick up and immediately think “oh my god this is going to be epic!” After reading just a few pages. This book starts out strong and just gets better and better as you read!
Kendell and Hunter’s story has literally everything. Humor, heat, sweetness and all the swoon. Kendell is one seriously awesome lady. Smart, strong and paving her way in a male dominated career I adored her immediately. Hunter while totally different in a lot of ways was also someone I loved instantly. More laid back this current cowboy and previous NFL coach was a whole lot of sexy. From the moment they first meet the sparks fly between them. That instant attraction as they clash creates some of the greatest banter that soon grows into an amazing relationship.
I now desperately need more from these two authors together!
4 Stars
Kendell is trying to prove herself in her father’s company, she is work focused and is trying to get respect from the players of the team they just purchased but it is not easy. She decides to try and get one of the best coaches to help but that also won’t be easy.
Hunter has stepped away from coaching after an incident he just can’t get over. When Kendell tries to get him to work for her, he is instantly attracted to her, but she also drives him crazy, he doesn’t know if he should kiss her or strangle her.
The chemistry these two have is off the charts but things are not always going to be easy, can Kendell get over her idea that she can never have a career and a relationship and can they both resolve the issues going on within the team?
How do you keep your head in the game, when your heart is on the line? Play Me has TOUCHDOWN written all over it. Elliott and Mayer are the perfect duo to pen a story of feminine empowerment. Kendall is a boss in heels. She knows what she wants and goes about making it happen. In business, she’s a tiger, but what happens when a smart business decision is on the verge of costing her everything, including her heart? Play Me had me cheering for the home team.
I loved this book!! A strong, feisty heroine!!! YESSSSSS!!!! She’s worked hard to get where she’s at, not getting there by who her father is but in spite of it. Her parents are very supportive of her but she makes her own way. She’s a hard worker and knows what she needs to make this football team turn around and not be a laughing stock of the league.
She wants Hunter to be the coach but he’s retired from the NFL as a coach and it’ll be a huge step down for him. He doesn’t want to coach any longer and he has a reason for that. Why should he accept her offer when he hasn’t accepted anyone else’s?
You could feel the chemistry right from the start between these two. The sweet build up between them, the laughter that they had and shared. I laughed quite a few times through out the book. I sighed a few times too.
I honestly couldn’t tell who wrote what, so don’t ask lol Can’t wait to see more of this series!!
5 PLAY ME STARS!! Wow, this book sucked me in!! I loved every word for Kendall and Hunter story, their chemistry was off the charts. This book has all the romance elements for a perfect romance book. These two author compliment each other writing style. I can’t wait to see what else they come out with. I highly recommend this book, so worth your money and time.
Wow !!!! Where do I start and I hope my words can do this book justice. Kelly Elliott is one of my go to authors but Kristin Mayer is a new author to me in saying that after reading Play Me I will certainly be checking out other books she has written because I loved this book so much.
Kendall is the boss and she is determined to prove herself worthy of running a minor league football team, she needs to prove to the board a woman can do this job and she is there on merit not because of her family name …..
Hunter has retired from coaching in the NFL and is now loving life on his ranch with his horses, well that was until Kendall comes knocking and ditches her high heels for a pair of his mud boots to follow him around as she try’s to convince him to give her team a go….
An instant attraction, sizzling chemistry and some very witty banter all make this book a great read but what I really loved was this story flowed and I had no idea who had written what, a sure sign this duo are on the same wavelength with their writing. As I haven’t read any of Kristin’s books I had no background on the family that Kendall was born into but that made no difference to the enjoyment I got from this book in fact I now know I want to read Trust Me where we first meet Kendall’s parents.
Can’t wait to read more from both of these authors
Though I have read several books by Kelly Elliott, this is my first read by Kristen Mayer, but not my last! I absolutely loved Play My by this writing duo. This story consumed me from start to finish, and I could not stop reading until I had devoured the entire book!
Kendall and Hunter were amazing together. Their chemistry was steamy and their banter witty and entertaining. Kendall was smart, beautiful and full of sass! You can’t help but love her. Hunter was sexy and swoon-worthy. He is a retired coach just enjoying life, but Kendall needs him now as she begins to take charge in the family business. Can she convince him to help her?
Play Me by Kelly Elliott and Kristen Mayer was such a great read with amazing characters. I loved their journey so much. A sport romance that was so much more. Full of chemistry and charm, I highly recommend it!
Absolutely loved it! Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
Happy reading!
I’m a sports romance junkie; it doesn’t matter the sport or the level of competition…this tomboy just loves any and all story lines, whether they’re in the forefront or the background, that include the wide world of sports!
And, that’s exactly why Play Me by Kelly Elliott and Kristin Mayer was a no brainer ARC read…add to that the fact that the premise included an intelligent, driven, and more than qualified female general manager for a minor league football team who knows the game of football and has the determination to succeed…and then there’s the hero – an alpha male and a gentleman who is all kinds of swoon worthy and that makes Hunter and Kendall’s story a MUST READ!
There’s a bit of a love/hate relationship between Hunter and Kendall at the start, which makes sense given the fact that they’re stubborn as heck, and both are used to calling the shots. But it’s beyond clear from the start that these two have off-the-charts chemistry and will eventually give into the sexual tension surrounding them…it’s just what happens when lust and desire turn into something more…something scary, at least in Kendall’s mind, that they’re going to have to figure out because one playing offense and one playing defense when it comes to their hearts will never end in victory but rather something even more devastating than defeat.
There’s so much to love about Hunter Owens; he’s definitely the complete package and then some;) He can sweet and dirty talk with ease and the way his presence commands attention is something to behold. BUT, it’s Hunter’s resilience when it comes to one of the Mustang’s players that stands out above the rest. He never stopped trying to reach Josh…no matter how many times he messed up, Hunter kept his faith in Josh and some of the most powerful scenes in the story are the ones where Hunter works to understand Josh and make Josh see the player and the man he can be if he gets his act together.
Regardless of how strong and feisty Kendall is in her general manager position, she’s still a woman in a male-dominated profession, which means that every action she takes and every decision she makes is scrutinized by the Board of Directors, by her employees, and by her players. She can’t show weakness or it’s used against her, which means Kendall has to walk a very narrow line because it seems like everyone’s waiting and expecting her to fail. And it’s those burdens that made it easier for me, even though she did frustrate me a bit, to understand her perspective when it came to her feelings for Hunter and her need to prove herself in her career.
Hunter and Kendall’s parents added so much to the story line and Elliott and Mayer did an amazing job of illustrating just how important these relationships are…how much their mom and dad ground both Hunter and Kendall and help them to realize what’s most important in life, making sure that their lives are filled with more than just a job they love. Their bond is so essential to all of their lives and that idea is shown in every private discussion, every declaration of love, and every father/daughter, mother/daughter, father/son, and mother/son interaction.
Play Me is a sweet, steamy, sassy, and heartwarming story that focuses on the importance of balance in life and in love as well as the supportive bonds that are absolutely necessary for coping and enduring. Hunter and Kendall grow so much individually as well as, as a couple as they learn to adjust to changes and to revel in all of life’s precious gifts. I enjoyed this book so much, and I cannot wait for these two authors to collaborate for another romance read!
4.5 Poison Apples
What do you get when two bestselling authors cowrite a book together? Well hello you get a football story filled with tons of hot sexual tension and a love never expected. I loved that Kelly Elliott and Kristin Mayer created these two with hate between them yet their love for never giving up just made them sweeter. Not only do we see these two but seeing love around them was just beautiful with hope that the possible can happen. Loved it.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
I’ll start by saying that I love these two authors! Separately they are amazing in their own rights. I can’t help but love the sweet, sexy alphas in Kelly’s stories and Kristen’s books never fail to have me completely engrossed. But together these two are pure magic!
Play Me will easily be at the top of my favorite books of this year. Hunter and Kendall have so much chemistry that I thought my kindle was going to combust. I fell head over heals for Hunter. He is sweet, kind and protective. He had me swooning into a puddle form the start.
Kendall is strong, independent, and eager to prove she is ready to take over her father’s company. She has never allowed herself the time for a relationship, and has always felt her life was full. Until she meets Hunter.
One night has both of them feeling things they never thought they would. I loved their story! I couldn’t put this one down. I cannot wait to see more from these two amazing authors!!!!
I absolutely loved Play Me by Kelly Elliott and Kristin Mayer. These two ladies write the most amazing books separately but together they always knock it out of the park!
Kendall is a strong independent businesswoman that wants to prove that women are just as capable as men to manage a football team. When her team starts acting up she decides to hire Hunter Owens to help her get them under control.
Hunter had something terrible happen during his coaching career and has vowed to never coach again. He is shocked when Kendall Wales comes to offer him a job. He doesn’t want to coach but wouldn’t mind spending time with a very attractive lady. He agrees to be a consultant for one year to help get the team back on track. Will Hunter be able to focus on his job or will his attraction to Kendall get in the way?
I loved the connection between Kendall and Hunter. The push and pull between them was so hot! The secondary characters added lots of depth to the storyline. I really hope to see more collaborations between these two amazing authors.
I love when Kelly and Kristin write together, these ladies scored big with this one. Kendall is my kind of h, she is strong and takes no crap. Hunter well what’s not to love. These two heat up the field, I loved their chemistry. You get it all in this book, it’s funny, HOT, and emotional. Don’t miss this one. 1 click NOW.

The writing duo of Kelly Elliott and Kristin Mayer has done it again!! This is the second book they have collaborated on and it was FANTASTIC!!! I was so excited to see them announce they were writing another book together and it was going to bring two of their other worlds together. This book did not disappoint!!!
I have always loved Kelly Elliott’s writing style, but I am not too familiar with Kristin’s, but I love when two authors can come together and write so seamlessly. That’s what you get with these two. You read the book and you can’t tell who writes what….they just work perfectly together.
Play Me is a standalone novel that is told in Dual POV. Like I said it brings Kelly Elliott and Kristin Mayer’s worlds together. How you may ask?? Well in this book we follow the journey of Hunter Owens and Kendall Wales. Hunter Owens is the son of Brett and Aubrey Owens, which we followed their story in The Playbook by Kelly Elliott. Kendall Wales is the daughter of Damien and Ally Wales from Kristin Mayer’s Trust Series. NO you don’t have to read any of the other books to fully enjoy this book. It truly is a standalone!!! I will say that I do want to go back and read the Trust Series now that I have met Damien and Ally.
In this book we follow these characters on their road to HEA. Hunter is a retired NFL coach who now lives and runs his ranch in Tennessee. Kendall is trying to learn the sports aspect of her father’s company so that she will be able to step in and run the company when he retires. Kendall is also out to prove that she can do things without relying on her father’s name. Kendall has been put in charge of the new minor league football team her father has purchased….in Kentucky. After seeing what she has to work with, she knows she needs to bring in the big guns….that is where Hunter Owens comes in. Except he is not interested!!! Can Kendall talk Hunter into helping her out?? What happens when professional crosses over into personal?? Can they make things work to get their HEA?? Read this book to find out.
I love Hunter and Kendall so much. Their banter was hilarious and their chemistry was off the charts. Both of these characters had drive and commitment. But they also had some walls to work over and break down. I loved watching them grow together. This is a couple you are going to want to meet!!
Play Me is definitely a MUST READ. If you are a fan of a sports romance, this is one of the best I have read. I thought the authors did a great job balancing out the sports aspect and not overloading the story with sports talk. If you are a fan of either of these authors, you will want to read this book. But if they are new to you, this is the perfect book to start this journey on!!!

Well you ladies have done it again. This book is AMAZING! I absolutely loved Kendall from the start and Hunter was just the icing on the cake.
Kendall is an independent, career driven, woman working in a mans world. She feels the need to prove that she can do her job of running a football team just as good as any man out there. She has a determination to prove to all the “nah-sayers” on her fathers board wrong. Kendall seeks out Hunter, a retired NFL coach and a beautiful specimen of a man, for help in making her team a winning team. Will Hunter be the one to help her?
Kendall’s team is one HOT MESS. Every time she turns around something is happening. There is a tid-bit of a secondary story with one of the secondary characters which broke my heart and had the tears flowing.
I literally burst out with laughter multiple times throughout this book. The banter was hands down hysterical. I LOVED these two characters so much and rooted for them the entire way through. These two authors are amazing on their own but together they are just EPIC! I can’t wait to see what this dynamic duo publishes next.
This writing duo has become one of my favorites. They absolutely complement each other and what a story they give to us. I couldn’t stop reading this book. They hook you on the first page and they take it all the way to the end zone
Kendall Wales is the daughter of the former NFL footballer Damien Wales and she’s the General Manager for the Mustangs a minor league team that is part of Wales Enterprises. As she takes over she realizes that her team is a joke. They are a bunch of immature men. But she’s determined to turn this team around.
Hunter Owens was one of the best coaches in the NFL but he hung up his whistle after a tragic accident. He no longer wants to coach. All he wants is to work on his ranch. That is until a beautiful woman shows up on his ranch with a question. Everything changes once these two meet.
Sometimes in love you either want to love and hug them or you want to strangle them. And these two do both.
We watch as Hunter and Kendall shape her team into champions and we watch as two people fall in love.
I loved everything about this book. I would highly recommend this book to any romance lover.
