She has a head for business and a body for sin. He is a coach who knows how to use his equipment.Neither is looking for love. Should be easy, right? Wrong. This might be the most important game Kendall Wales and Hunter Owens have ever played where everything is on the line. With one wrong play, they could lose it all. Hopefully, the game clock doesn’t reach zero before it’s too late.*A stand … alone novel that combines Kelly Elliott’s The Playbook and Kristin Mayer’s Trust Me

When two rockstar authors come together… the game gets real!
Play Me is by far one of the best reads I have had on my kindle. I loved every second and never really knew if I was going to come off the edge of my seat.
The thrill was about as real as an actual football game. Kristin and Kelly kicked this field goal right on through and scored more than the 3 points with this story for sure.
Hunter is the enigma of a football coach who shies away from the spotlight until Kendall comes along and knocks him loose to cause him to fumble. These two go head to head many times throughout but the game isn’t over so quickly!
Can Kendall handle taking Hunter on when he is so keen to never associate with football again? You’ll have to wait in the stands and watch the play by play to find out!
5 Everyone Wins Stars!!
The minute I heard that Ms. Elliott and Ms. Mayer were bringing the kids of two of my favorite book couples together in this book I literally EEEPPP’d out loud. I’ve wanted to see what these families were like since we left their worlds and both Hunter and Kendall were little bitty babies!
I can say with all honesty this book is EVERYTHING I wanted it to be. Kendall Wales is a woman that’s trying to prove to her father and his board that she’s capable of running the entire Wales empire and the first step is turning the minor league football team around and the best man for the job is Hunter Owens.
These two are literally polar opposites in everything with the exception of how they love their families. This heat between them leads to some oh so funny, sexy and laughable moments…
“She was something else. One minute I wanted to strangle her, the next I wanted to drag her into my arms and kiss her.”
As we get to know both our H/h we see so many layers of their personalities and what makes them tick and how they do their very best to not act on the mutual attraction. There were a few scenes that had me laughing out loud with the lengths that Kendall went to! And one night everything changed and from then on it was them working together to have a winning season.
There’re also some very poignant scenes that just about broke my heart. It explains so much about one of the secondary characters and all of a sudden everything made sense. I loved how Hunter and Kendall love each other. Don’t get me wrong there are some definite struggles to define their relationship. And this is where Damien and Allison and Brett and Aubrey come in and we see how they’re still so in love and want the best for their children.
And oh the scenes where music is involved had me cracking up. Let’s just say Kendall’s favorite music does not sit well with Hunter LOL
This book flowed effortlessly and at no point could I tell which author was writing which chapter. To me this speaks to how wonderful an author both Ms. Mayer and Ms. Elliott are. I’m really hoping we’re going to get more in this world because I can never have enough of this couple!
Wow! What else is there to be said? I was a little unsure of a co-written book but Play Me did not disappoint. The two authors characters and words easily blended together and made this book amazing. It was hot and romantic. Play Me was such a great read with well-developed characters and a few surprises thrown into this love story. I highly recommend this book!
This book was amazing. I loved hunter and Kendall’s story from page one. Their chemistry and how their story played out was excellent. These two are gifted writers separately. Together, it was a touchdown. I hope this is just the beginning of their book partnership. I adored everything about this story. Easily a five star read
Wow!! I was so excited when I found out about this book! I love Kelly Elliott and Kristin Mayer! Play Me brought two of my all time couples back together for the best spin off ever! Getting to see Kendall and Hunter fall in love was magical! 5 stars will never ever be enough!!
If you enjoy sports romances, this is a do not miss!
So I need to tell you a story real quick. Unconventional I know. But anyways…. I’ve read anything and everything by Kelly Elliott from the very beginning. I found Kristin Mayer through Predestined Hearts, one she co-wrote with Kelly Elliott. And fell just as insanely in love with Kristin Mayer. I feel like I’ve come full circle with Play Me. And dang did these two once again blow me away!! Kendall and Hunter, just omg!! And to get to visit old favorites from both of these authors. Add in football and this girl’s heart was gone and all about Play Me. I am absolutely in love with with this book and these characters! Ms. Elliott and Ms. Mayer have a magical gift when it comes to writing. I’ll read anything by them any day of the week. You don’t want to miss these characters and this story. You’ll love them as much as I do!
It seems I love sports rom-coms more than most, (I blame the fact that I indeed love sports) and Play Me is no exception.
Kendell Wales is a woman in a man’s world, running a minor league football team in Kentucky. But when the team seems to be less responsible and trusting than a 10 year old, Kendell knows the coach must go! When Kendell needs to find a new coach, she already knows who she wants. The only problem is that he walked away from the sports years ago and hasn’t been heard from since!
Hunter Owens wants nothing more than to stay on his ranch and handle his horses. So when Kendell shows up to offer him a job he knows he’s going to refuse and sends her on her way. So why, days later, is Kendell all he can think about? It’s not that he wants to coach, so is it the job or the woman that won’t leave his mind?
Watch these two go through the business of football, living next to each other and obviously feeling SOMETHING for the other in a world where there’s always a scandal around every corner.
My heart melts every time Hunter speaks to Kendell.
I freaking LOVED EVERYthing in, about, and around this book!! I was hooked from the very first page.
Kendall Wales is definitely one kick butt chick!!! She is what every woman strives to be. Successful, competent, real, knows what she wants out of life, and goes after it. And she wants, needs Hunter Owens!! She needs to show her father’s board of directors she can turn this football team around, and turn it into the team they CAN be, rather than the laughing stock of the league. And, Kendall knows that Hunter Owens can do that!!
Hunter Owens was one of the best football players through high school, college, and the NFL as well. Following in his father’s equally great footsteps, he goes into coaching. Hunter’s skills on the football field lead him to be one of the best coaches as well, until tragedy strikes, and he leaves football behind for good. Then Kendall Wales knocks on his door…
OMG, the chemistry between these two… OH! MY!!! Get that fan out ladies. These two were definitely made for each other. The way they supported the other, SIGH!!!
I loved all the characters, well almost all, I really hated a couple, but is that not an indicator of well written book? I really liked the way that both Kendall’s and Hunter’s parents supported and encouraged their children. I loved the way Kendall gave Hunter back his love of football.
In my honest opinion, this was a very well written book! I could not put it down once I started reading. Kudos Kristin Mayer, and Kelly Elliott, you have a smash hit in my humble opinion!!!
Thank you for reading my review. Soooo Ladies, what are you waiting for!?!? Go hit that purchase button. Happy reading!!
I LOVEDDDDD Kendall and Hunter!!!!! She was a career driven woman in male dominant world and she was not intimidated. Hunter was just wow from beginning to end. He was the perfect match for Kendall. They balanced each other out and their banter was off the chains. Kendall wanted to be respected and was dedicated to her job but Hunter brought out in her and showed her that she can have her career and love too. It was the perfect story!!!!! And as for the secondary characters?! Priceless!!!! Both set of parents were amazing!!! Drama free story with some emotional stuff but still very good!!
A beautifully written and flawless collaboration by authors Kelly Elliott and Kristen Mayer!!!
I am a long time fan of author Kelly Elliott. If she writes it, I will read it! I anxiously await each and every book release. As a reader I do worry about books that are co-authored. Will it feel disjointed not cohesive? Will the reading have that effortless flow as one by a single author? Can I tell where one author ends and the other begins. This book proved the superb talents of this writing duo.
Play Me was beautifully written and flawless in its flow. Authors K. Elliott and K. Mayer did an amazing job and I look forward to future collaborations with these authors.
Kendall Wales is a strong independent woman. She wants more than anything to prove she has what it takes to be a leader in a male dominated field. She isn’t afraid of hard work and will do what needs to be done to be taken seriously, especially for the good of her team. She has a big task at hand. Find a coach for her team. Not just a coach but ‘the coach’.
Hunter Owens walked away from coaching long ago. Did he dominate the job, yes he did. Can he do it again, yes he can but not a snowballs chance. He won’t go back His life is settled and he has nothing to prove to anyone. Never say never….. especially when it shows up at your home in Louboutin heels.
Quiet life, not for long. In walks this stubborn lady that not only sparks a fire in his …well loins, but has the audacity to question his abilities on the field. Call him a coward. Heck nah! Kendall Wales will get the help she needs but on his terms, well bless him he is a man….let him think it’s on his terms. Bless her, let her keep thinking her ‘life plan’ will not be altered!
What do you get when you toss in a pair of Louboutin shoes (that need to held gently..not clutched), Lysol, 80’s music flashbacks, a road trip, Mike and Ikes, thin walls, and one fine tattooed sleeve…..one heck of a love story!
Oh MY WORD!!! Kelly Elliott and Kristen are fast becoming my favorite writing duo! They also gave us the story of two strong characters! I love authors that give us a strong female lead. What was the best is that we had seen this same characteristic in prior female leads in each authors books. We have the hot male lead but what I loved about Hunter is the quality added showing a male that had a compassionate side. During the course of the story be meet a young man who just like Hunter had a famous father and had too been impacted by tragedy. Unlike this young man, Hunter had a father who was quick to praise his son. That is what was beautiful about his book. We revisit the parents of Kendall and Hunter. All four characters from separate books the authors had written and see the loving and nurturing life they had shown their children. That alone was absolutely beautiful to read. Don’t get me wrong Kendall and Hunter are both stubborn as mules! Love is never without twist and turns, laughs and tears…..but the reward, now that is worth it all.
I can’t give more without completely telling their story. Would I recommend this book, absolutely. If you want a book that gives you steam, smiles, tears, laughs and love……read Play Me.
Ohhh, this story was so sweet! I enjoyed getting to know Kendall and Hunter! Kendall has a good head on her shoulders and she was determined to succeed in her career. She is a woman who knows what she wants and while she wasn’t sure her idea would work, she grabbed life by the horns and approached Hunter. She knew he was the one to get the job done. And there was something about her that intrigued him. I enjoyed the banter between them and the chemistry… whew! *fans self* I was lost in their story and I really enjoyed it! It felt realistic and hopeful and I found myself not wanting to put the book down. Be sure not to miss this read! I look forward to future books from this duo!
4.5 stars as a standalone, but if you’ve read the other series – it’s probably a 5 star.
“Love means giving someone the chance to hurt you while trusting them not to.” Not sure which author wrote that line, but it really sums up the love in this book.
So this was a new standalone for me as I haven’t read either previous series by Kelly Elliott or Kristin Mayer, but I do enjoy Kristin Mayer books, so I knew I couldn’t go wrong. And now I’m sure I’m going to have to go back and read how both sets of parents fell in love! <3
This one did not disappoint - I loved Kendall and Hunter. Neither want a relationship, but neither can deny the chemistry either. And holy moly - when they give in - WOWZA!! It had some humorous moments too - the scene where he jumps the fence and then the gym scene - lol funny!!
But when they start to fall in love - that's when the swoon begins.
"With every pulse, I gave her more than...I had just given Kendall Wales my soul."
This book is full of wonder and love. If you've read the other series - I think you'll really fall for this one. I did even without that history. It's a smooth transition between authors and such a wonderful romance interwoven with a strong female character, a swoony male lead and great sets of secondary characters - even Josh!
I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.
THIS STORY HOLY CANNOLI! This is my first read from two authors where their story universes collide and I was a total fan! Once I started the book I could not put it down and loved every bit of it. Kendall is a total boss babe in a male dominated business that operates the corporate world by kicking butt and taking names. She’s climbing the ranks in her father’s company in her own way without any help as to prove she deserves it. In the process of proving to herself and her father that she can take the next step in her career, she meets Hunter, who is reluctant to help her yet ends up doing it in his own way. When sparks fly and they can’t fight their feelings any longer they get together. While there wasn’t any catalyst moment for the couple, they had moments where they struggled or had a fight, but they were more realistic of a typical relationship, which helped make the book more relatable. Overall I loved this story and I can’t wait to read more from this duo!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Absolutely loved reading this book. A wonderful contemporary sports book.
Hunter and Kendall have so much chemistry. I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books from these two dynamic authors
4.5 stars *****
I am a huge fan of Kelly Elliott and love everything she writes. Kristin Mayer is a new author to me but if this collaboration is a show of her writing she now has a new fan. These two brilliant authors together have delivered a flawless, addictive, gripping read.
I started this in the morning and had no intention of going anywhere until I had finished it (which made me glad to have a quiet morning for once).
The chemistry between Kendall and Hunter was palpable and explosive from the second they met. The banter, wit and interactions was gripping and entertaining.
Kendall is a strong, independent women who has to be tough to make it as General Manager for a football team. She has to prove that she can handle working in a man’s world and prove that she has her job through hard work and not because of daddy. I loved her kick-ass attitude especially when she goes in all guns blazing and sacks the coach and some players. (queue annoying song …..he he he)
Hunter, a former Football coach, brought out of retirement by the irresistible Kendall, the hell-in-heels turns up at his ranch and makes him an offer he can’t refuse. Now its just a matter of time until these two give into their attraction.
Only criticism I have of this book is that this clever duo made a song stick in my head for the WHOLE weekend!! I wouldn’t normally mind but its an annoying one that you can’t help go around singing and my family thought I had lost my marbles!
Play Me is an easy book to read, its sweet, swoon-worthy and steamy. A definite MUST READ. I can’t wait to read their next collaboration.
You know that feeling you get when you meet someone and it feels different but you can’t put your finger on it. Well that’s Kendall and Hunter. She is a driven woman with her job, she is out to prove she knows what she is doing in a male dominated world. She needs Hunter to help her put her team on the road to a Championship. These two have Chemistry that’s is off the charts. The relationship they form will lead them to the best Happy Ever After they deserve.
I adored this story, so so much! Kendall and Hunter are so so good together..the spark is there right from the start, but they both have something to prove in the football field!
I love how this story has a few layers, where both characters have their own reasons and things going on, and they also have to face something together.
I love Hunter, he is such a great guy, with the biggest heart ever.
Kendall is also very lovable and she is so determined to succeed on her own two feet.
Great story!
Kelly and Kristin writing together is one of the best things ever. I absolutely loved this book and read it so fast. I couldn’t put it down and didn’t want it to be over. The banter between Kendall and Hunter was hilarious. Kendall is such a strong and independent woman and then you through Hunter her way. She didn’t know what hit her when he showed up. Amazing love story and hilarious antics through out.
Recently, I have been super diligent when it comes to star ratings, so for me to give a 5 star review says so much about Play Me by Kelly Elliott and Kristin Mayer. This book collaboration is pure magic, it blew my expectations out of the water. I was expecting to go in, and get bored with the football lingo real fast. What this duo of authors created, is anything but boring. Yes, this story revolves around the football aspect, but that literally is just a blip in what this story is all about. Play Me is absolutely everything I want in a story. Honestly, it romanced the heck out of me. The witty banter, the jokes ( still laughing about this ) ,the undeniable chemistry, the core of the families, the determination, heck I could go on and on about all the reasons this book melts me into a puddle of goo. You can tell this light-hearted Rom-Com was written by two authors that are so intuned with one another, and that sincerely shows. I can not wait to see what this collaboration does in the future because they are pure gold.
Kendall, Kendall, Kendall. She is without a doubt my spirit animal. Her work ethic knows no bounds, her personality is strong and hilarious, serious and kind, forgiving and compassionate. Her family values are set so high, that even I could learn a thing or two. Shes a city girl, with a heart bred from the country.
Hunter Owen. I am just going to go ahead a call dibs before others have the chance. He is that guy that I could easily fall in love with ( if he was real ). An easy goring personality, with tattoos and chaps to match? Get the flip out of here. I can’t even. He’s a softy with strong determination to crush whatever he sets out to do. He is forgiving, and understanding with a humbleness that just seeps from his pores. He’s a country boy, with the ability to live like a city slicker.
*Do I recommend this book? ABSOLUTELY, WITHOUT A DOUBT!!
