Holy cow! What an epic ending to a great series. I sat down and devoured this book in 1 day. I never do that…ever. It’s my favorite book of the series and I love them all. The ending…I never expected that…at all! JA Huss knows how to suck you in and spit you out the other side shaking your head and loving the book at the same time. If you love mind f**k books with a side of hot and steamy you will love the crazy ride she take you on.
When it comes to a JA Huss novel I feel like I sound like a broken record. It’s full of twist and turns, sexy times and a plot that I can’t ever seem to figure out. Completely unpredictable. The same can be said about Play Dirty. But this book was also a million other things.
I want to preface this review by saying that Play Dirty, although the fourth in the Jordan’s Game series, can be read a standalone. Each in this series is considered a standalone – but I am a huge fan of this author, so that means I one-click and read as they get released – so I went into Play Dirty having known Jordan over the course of six prior books. And that knowledge impacted my reading of this book.
When Jordan first surfaced in the Turning Series I did not trust him. Not for a single moment. He appeared to be manipulative and thrived on pulling strings behind the scenes. By the time got to his role in His Turn, although we saw a glimmer of something else with him – I still could not get to a place of trust. By the end of that story, I was all about Lawton Ayers (The Boyfriend Experience and #MINE).
Over the course of the three prior books, we don’t get a lot of Jordan. We get little bits, but those ended up causing me to mistrust him even more. I had faith that my feeling would shift – I mean this was a side character in three books who was important enough to become a feature – there have to be some redeeming qualities, right?
This was my mindset. Six books in and I still could not trust the guy. Manipulation and mind games were his MO and he seemed to have access to pull some pretty big strings. So I was shocked to find that as Jordan’s story unfolded, that I was choked up. That I was torn between doubt and pity for him. There was something at the root of his behavior and it just made every single thing click into place.
Now in Play Dirty, JA Huss brings the heat with a reluctant three-way relationship. Alexander and Augustine are from his past, a college tryst that ended in deceit and betrayal. And as much as this story focuses on the here and now, the whole story is all about making up for a past transgression and realizing that even the puppet master has someone pulling his strings. The scenes were fantastic. I loved the slight m/m vibe and I really hope one day this author will fully fall over that line and go all in.
I didn’t expect the ending of this story – I never thought I would feel bad for Jordan. But in the end, I realized that so much was out of his control. A few moments shaped who he was and changed the direction of his life. A man, who lusted for the erotic but craved loved. A man who craved the club so he could be free for the few moments within its walls.
I must hand it to this author. I had so many doubts about how I’d feel about Jordan after being so leery of him for so long. But he won me over completely. In closing, I got all the answers I needed. The mystery of Jordan felt solved and now I look back at the prior roles he played and can’t help but wonder if the clues were there all along.
Are you ready to play one final game?
I have been waiting for Jordan’s story since my tryst with him in the Turning Point series. Where he screwed me at concert. Then never bothered to call me again. LOL!!!! Throughout the Jordan’s game series Jordan plays with peoples lives and their happiness. But in Play Dirty when the tables are turned and it’s his life that is being messed with Jordan isn’t so eager to play the game.
JA Huss ended this series perfectly. True Huss style!!! This book is filled with angst, toe curling sex, and WTF!!!!!! moments. And it helped me understand Jordan so much better. Definitely a must read!!
Absolutely loved it!!!
I was always intrigued by Jordan, I didn’t truly know that hat his game was. But damn did this book open my eyes and made me absolutely love Jordan. Playing Dirty has its twist and turns that I didn’t even see coming and I absolutely love that in a book. It’s refreshing that none of JA’s books are predictable and that’s why I will always one click. I truly enjoyed this story, my heart broke for Jordan and definitely went on an emotional rollercoaster. Of course I absolutely love seeing Chelle & Smith and even seeing Evangeline and Ixion in this book. Another amazing series that I couldn’t put down and absolutely loved every character. Another 5 Star read that truly is another JA masterpiece.
I finally got my story….I’ve loved Jordan since he first showed up in the Turning series books and I have absolutely been dying to get his real story. JA Huss delivers in an absolutely action packed, steamy love/hate story that ties up the loose ends I was seeing and trying to put together myself. Is Jordan a good man? Most might say no…but in the end, he does what he does not just to screw with people but also to right wrongs he has seen along the way. When all signs point to Jordan, himself being played, we not only get the story behind the Alexander, Augustine and Jordan love story, but we get more than just a peak at who Jordan is, why Jordan is the way he is, what drives him and in the end, be prepared for one heck of a surprise twist that even if I had outlined everything, I would never, ever have seen coming. Thank you JA for giving me way more than I expected but exactly what I needed!
It is finally Jordan’s turn! Jordan’s past comes back and they happen to be the owners of the building he desperately wants. Alexander and Augustine have a proposition to make Jordan and hope he says yes. Jordan doesn’t necessarily know if they are back for revenge or really want his help. Will he do anything to get that building, even try to recapture what they had over eight years ago? Will it all work out or will it implode? It’s time for the game master to play his own game! We get many twists and secrets revealed as we do with J.A. Huss’s books! MF; MFM; MM
Jordan has been playing these games forever. He wants the club that Augustine and Alexander own. They come back to Jordan to get him to fix their marriage in exchange for the club. It all comes crashing down when he finds out the truth about the club he wants and about his mansion. He finds out the truth about the games his father has been playing with him and his friends. It all comes crashes down him and sends him in a spiral until he finds out the truth. Jordan’s story comes together perfectly. Jordan is sexy as hell. At the end of the book you just fall in love with him.
This book has you reeled in from the beginning and I love it. I love how this book kept me guessing. ARC provided by author.
5 I’m ready to Play Stars
You don’t upend your whole life for a gamble like this and then suddenly pull out at the last second.
You fuck that bitch hard and come inside her before you finish.
Yep. That sums it up. Play Dirty is Jordan’s story. Finally. After all the games and all the books and all the secrecy and quiet and questions. This. Is. Jordan’s. Story.
It’s everything you want it to be. It’s everything you’ve been waiting for. There are players you didn’t see coming. There are games in play that you didn’t know existed. There is so much happening.
And all you’re going to want is for Jordan to get his HEA. I mean, Bric, Quin, Smith, Ix, Law, and Finn all got their very own HEAs. A lot of those came at the hands of Jordan. So, you are pulling for this man to get everything he wants and needs and desires.
This is the perfect fourth book. This is the perfect story for Jordan. This is the one we’ve been waiting for.
Are you ready to play dirty?
Finally! We finally get Jordan’s story. We met him way back when in the Turning series and have seen him playing games in the Jordan’s Game books, but now, now we get his story! And in true J.A. Huss fashion, expect the unexpected because nothing is ever what it seems!
Jordan left California years ago. When he left, he left Augustine and Alexander behind for good, or so he thought. Now they are back and they want Jordan back in their lives. The question for Jordan is, why? Why now after all these years? Now Jordan is reevaluating his life. After all the games he has played, who is the real game master?
I devoured Play Dirty. I was not sure how I felt about Jordan from the first time we met him, but always, always found him intriguing. J.A. Huss did not disappoint in giving us story. Be prepared to go on a journey full of twists and turns! How will it all finally end? Though this is a standalone within a series of books, reading the Jordan’s Game books will be helpful and they are just so worth reading anyway!
4.5 stars! Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
Happy reading!
The Game Master finally gets his game on…or is it his game after all.
So many twists, so many surprises.
JA Huss knows how to deliver satisfaction.
Jordan’s story was a fitting end to the series, but I have to say, I think Jordan was as surprised as we were.
Way to go Mom!
Ah the game master has to play a game of his own. As to who was calling the shots, that was a guessing game till the very end. And as usual with a Huss book, I was wrong every time. I never pictured Jordan’s games ending this way but that’s okay because it so much better. I loved taking the ride that was this series.
Once again I am left in awe of the tale that Julie has spun with Jordan’s story. I knew from the very beginning of meeting Jordan back in the Turning series, that he was going to be intriguing and complex and that what we saw on the surface was not going to represent even an Nth of who and what he was. You know those pictures you see of an iceberg sticking out of the water which makes it look like it’s small and harmless, but then you see the HUGE chunk under the surface that is the most dangerous part? Yeah, that’s Jordan.
Throughout this series, we’ve seen bits and pieces of Jordan in each book, because he’s the game master, right? And in each book, I have absolutely marveled at how he has pulled off each of the games he’s orchestrated. Hell, with half of them it felt like there really wasn’t a game in place at all, that shit was just happening to these women, incredible shit that there’s no way it was planned out, but by the end you discover that yep, that was all Jordan. He planned it all. And in my head I see Jordan, BOOM! huge mic drop, and he walks off into the sunset with a big smirk on his face. Like I said, the game master. Until events start happening in Jordan’s life that make him start feeling like HE is being played.
Before I go any further, I want to mention that although this book is a standalone in the series, it would be really helpful if you have at least read Total Exposure: Jordan’s Game book 1. A lot of what happens in Play Dirty relates back to events learned about in that first book. Augustine and Alexander, characters we first learned about in Total Exposure, come back to town and want Jordan to be a part of their lives again. But Jordan, the lawyer, wants to know why, after eight years, they’ve finally come back. Or maybe it isn’t lawyer Jordan, maybe it’s just Jordan, the guy who screwed everything up all those years ago. And I can’t mention Augustine and Alexander without talking about Ixion, Jordan’s best friend from childhood. He’s back because Jordan needed him to play the Total Exposure game, so is it just a coincidence of timing that they happened to come to Denver shortly after Ixion got there? Is it possible that Jordan will be able to make amends with all three of the people he screwed over eight years ago?
Julie takes the reader on a twisted path of events, things happening that make Jordan question everything at every turn. Why are Augustine and Alexander really back? Have they truly forgiven him for events from the past? What even got him started creating these games in the first place? What is it that he truly wants in life? Can he even answer that question? I admit, I figured this book was going to be one big sex fest between Jordan, Augustine and Alexander. And while there was sex to be had, it was not the focus. The true focus, the whole nucleus of Jordan’s story went down a path I was not expecting at all.
You could have knocked me over with a feather when the truths were all revealed. When events from Jordan’s past were pulled from the depths of his memory. Making Jordan question everything that has occurred in his life from the time he was a pre-teen. Causing Jordan to see things for what they really were, once he actually focused on them. And ultimately showing him who the true Game Master was. But most importantly, showing him what he really wanted and what he needed for his life to be absolutely complete.
Jordan may have been the Game Master, but Julie is the Story Master! No matter how much I try to predict how a story is going to turn out, I end up being wrong every time! Jordan has been around for quite a few books now, so I felt like I had a (somewhat) good read on him, and I felt like I knew what actions he would take once Augustine and Alexander started pursuing him. Create the ultimate game, one that would have a 100% success rate at getting HIM what he wanted. Is that what ends up happening? The end result is what Jordan wanted, but the path that leads him there is one twisted ride that you have to take for yourself. Strap in and hold on tight!!
Jordan Wells has prided himself on being the Game Master, but is he playing or being played? Over the previous books I’ve come to like and appreciate Jordan. The character is so richly portrayed, as a smart confident lawyer with singular tastes and a penchant for doing good deeds. August and Alex make him wonder if he has moved on, but something just doesn’t ring true with their story.
This plot line just twists and turns. Jordan’s backstory is doled out piecemeal keeping us entranced and turning the pages as fast as we can. It helps to have read the previous books but Jordan, Ixion, Chella and this suspenseful tale will have you sitting on pins and needles while capturing your heart.
Is everyone playing dirty, the suspense lasts till the very end
