I’ll never fall for Max Donovan. Forget his money, his gaming empire, and his joystick. The CEO of the world’s hottest gaming company is no nerd. Max Donovan is cocky, commanding, and ruthless… and that’s in public.I need his business and his money. To win, I have to play by his rules.I’m ready for anything.Baggage? He’s already lived more than most people have in a lifetime.Secrets? The empire … lived more than most people have in a lifetime.
Secrets? The empire he’s built doesn’t come without them.
Broken hearts? Not if I never risk mine to begin with.
The fact that he’s devastatingly attractive, shockingly intelligent and impossibly jaded is irrelevant.
Even if his irresistible mouth, sarcastic comments and eyebrow piercing leave me dying to know who he is behind closed doors…
None of it matters.
Because his game is the only one I can’t afford to lose.

Until next time… Happy Reading!
This gaming story is the first one I’ve read by Piper Lawson but I am already into the second book, as it started at the end of this book and I am loving it too! She writes with passion and warmth and I loved the interaction between Max and Payton! They were enemies to start off, but became friends and then lovers. Watching their relationship develop and their personalities warm up to each other was truly such a pleasure to read. Their co-workers were fun and interesting and helped to bring depth and make us feel more connected to them. The obstacles they worked through helped them build trust, which was a big issue for Max. I loved this book and look forward to the next one.
I enjoyed this book although there were times where I got frustrated with Max and his behavior, but I also understand why he is the way he is. I liked the slow build to a relationship between Payton and Max; the secondary characters were present throughout the book, but their appearances weren’t overwhelming to the story. I am hoping there will be a book based on Charlie and Avery, I’d love to know how their relationship will progress.
So, Payton is awesome. She is so strong and sassy and can handle any guy. Like it says on her business cards; a dick whisperer.
Max is the cool, Steve Jobs kind of nerd.
Having these two crashing together is hilarious and thouraly entertaining.
5 stars and an albatross
Play – Piper Lawson
I picked up Piper Lawson’s Play from the publisher’s blurb on the website.
It sounded good, after all I watched my kids play video games for years and I know how much money I have given to the gaming industry over time, so I thought I wanna read this to see where it goes. I will honestly say I was not let down. Max Donovan is a gamer, in the true sense of the word, he writes the code, builds the game then sells the game and reaps the rewards. He is his own made man! Now he wants to move on to bigger and better so that takes money. Enter Payton Blake! Payton works for an investment bank and they want to up their game and bring in more business from Tech companies. A perfect match right! Well, maybe not right away a perfect match. Payton and Max need to learn about each other and about things they have not delved into prior to this business match.
Piper Lawson has taken two people who started out to make a business deal and between one of them learning how to play video games and the other learning about the reality of big bank deals, they manage to not just forge a friendship but they learn from each other. Lawson has sprinkled in a wonderful group of characters that add to this story. Payton’s assistant at the Bank, Charlie brings the comic relief and is a great support character to Payton. Riley McKay does the same for Max, two men who are as different as night and day yet have been friends since childhood. I don’t have a background in gaming, but I felt so comfortable reading this story. In all honesty, Play is one of my go to comfort books, the humour, the excitement, the worry, the corporate spying and the end result always gives me warm feelings. Definitely a 5 star read!
Loved this book!
i loved it keep writing
Love connection chemistry and build up to explosive mating
Great series
Payton has finally made it to the top the corner office where men would like to be. Payton was dealing with the difficult male clients. Avery an associate started at the firm at the same time though Payton took the desired spot in her promotion. Avery was goading Peyton regarding acquisitions to the firm and she knew he had a lot more connections. Peyton runs into a man who just turned out to be Max Donovan her lunch date. He was asking Alliance to lend him twenty million dollars of course Payton thought it was a joke courtesy of Avery especially the way Max looked. When she gets to the office she finds out that Max Donovan was one of the top game company. Payton went to see Max and try to get his business she needed his business. He tells her he is sending her something and then they would talk then turned his back to her. Max needed extra finding so Payton told him she would help. Payton had her handful with Max. Payton and Max had a taunting attraction to one another was being strained especially when she sported a characters from his game outfit. Finally Max and Payton sleep together at Comic Con. Max takes Payton to see her favorite band for her birthday and she couldn’t believe he got tickets Max knew it would make her happy. Twists, turns, and trust issue. The book was very slow and wordy in the beginning but picked up.
Everything by Piper Lawson is a great read. This is such a fun and funny book with an awesome romantic story, that’s also not the usual plot. The whole series is so much fun!
Payton met Max when he applied for a loan with the bank she is working for. And as a newly appointed associate she needs the business. But never did she think that Max’s world would be so intriguing and captivate her so easily, just like the man himself. But he is a cynic and not keen on trusting people. Will they be able to forge a working relationship or even more… The story explore the relationship between two people with different goals, for both of them professional but it slowly changed into something else. The characters are well developed and the emotional rollercoaster the writer takes you on makes for an excellent read.

Great book that was interesting with a gamer background. Lots of trust issues to work through, but the two had hot chemistry.

I absolutely have fallen in love with the book. It is true that gamers do not have much in the way of romance stories. This book blows that out of the water because it is explosive with witty, funnybremarks between all the characters and for the characters in the second book of the series. I love the attitudes of Payton, Max, Charlotte, Riley and even Avery because of what Charlotte does to irritate him at work. Give this book a read and share seriously, you will not regret it.

Max & Payton Will Make You Laugh, Cry, & Blush In This Story About A Gamer Genius Who Meets A Gorgeous, Good Girl Banker!
Payton Blake, twenty-six, once lived for parties and guys. That all changed in her fourth year of college when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and Payton vowed to support her mother through the illness. Today her mother is recovering and Payton lives for her job at Alliance Financial, one of the biggest banks in the country, in a division that helps small and medium companies grow. She just got a big promotion to associate in spite of the fact that she snuck in the side door after community college, unlike most of her peers. As the youngest associate on the floor and the only woman, she sometimes has trouble being taken seriously, so she works tirelessly to prove her worth. Alliance management has just shifted their focus to tech companies, and it is important in Payton’s new role for her to keep up by developing new business in that sector. She has no friends outside of work, and hasn’t bothered with sex in the last year.
Max Donovan, twenty-eight, is the founder of his own gaming studio, Titan Games. He is responsible for breaking the internet two years ago with the release of his indie video game, Oasis. He has been called a genius, a visionary, and a prodigy, but also a cynic, cold, and distant. He is not media-friendly, preferring instead to keep a very low profile. Max was into games, not girls, in high school, and he started undergrad at Boston U in sociology, but was distracted by a coding project and never finished his classes.
Payton’s day is not going well when the guy dressed like he just left a college rock concert – all lean, pale skin, and spiky hair – sits down across from her at the table she has reserved for her lunch meeting. His lips are distracting, his eyebrow piercing attention-grabbing. But she has been asked by her boss to take a last-minute appointment and needs the hot guy to leave before her appointment shows. Instead of leaving, he claims to be in need of a loan for twenty million dollars. She immediately assumes she is the victim of a wild office prank. By the time she discovers he is legit – and would in fact be her biggest client as well as increase Alliance’s tech holdings – he refuses her money.
Despite their rocky start, Max and Payton need one another. Max, to fund the follow-up game he is working on, and Payton, to ensure her survival in a cut-throat business environment. This leads to some hilarious laugh out loud scenes! Max is a gamer, often in jeans and converse, and life is a game to him, whereas Payton is sharply dressed and organised. Max has no qualms with evading, subverting, and shirking his responsibilities to Payton and Alliance. As a result, the two bicker constantly, and their banter is highly entertaining.
Max and Payton are a joy to read about. Their story is packed with laughter, tears, and blushes! Their characters are well-developed. They have both undergone big changes in their past that leave them emotionally unavailable. They fight their attraction by fighting with one another, but eventually their chemistry cannot be denied. It is rewarding to see the couple work through their issues. They deserve their HEA!
“PLAY” is nicely written with just some minor errors. The storyline goes behind the scenes in the gaming world. I do not claim to have insider knowledge, but the gamer angle does generally feel authentic. The story and characters also feel relatively realistic. Nothing is horribly over the top, and Max’s wealth is not flaunted. It is told from Payton’s POV, with the exception of the epilogue, which is from Max’s POV. I really enjoyed Max and Payton’s story! Payton’s friend Charlie garners a lot of giggles here, and her story can be found in the title “NSFW.” I rate this book 4.5 stars.
