New York Times bestselling author Dorothea Benton Frank evokes a lush plantation in the heart of modern-day South Carolina—where family ties and hidden truths run as deep and dark as the mighty Edisto River….Caroline Wimbley Levine always swore she’d never go home again. But now, at her brother’s behest, she has returned to South Carolina to see about Mother—only to find that the years have not … find that the years have not changed the Queen of Tall Pines Plantation. Miss Lavinia is as maddeningly eccentric as ever—and absolutely will not suffer the questionable advice of her children. This does not surprise Caroline. Nor does the fact that Tall Pines is still brimming with scandals and secrets, betrayals and lies. But she soon discovers that something is different this time around. It lies somewhere in the distance between her and her mother—and in her understanding of what it means to come home….

Not my favorite book by this author.
She is one of my favorite authors. Love all of her books.
This book was a little slow (too much descriptions of everything), but I like this author.
Love any book by Dorothea Benton Frank. So sad there won’t be any more.
Story was predictable but enjoyable. flawed characters make for good copy!
Every Dorothea Benton Frank novel makes you feel as though you actually living in the area of the setting.
I simply loved it…you need to read “Low Country” next, (it’s Book 2 of the Plantation novels!) They are both 5* books and should be read in order. I enjoyed these books most out of all DBF’s novels I’ve read, so far! Amazingly realistically descriptive of Charleston and South Carolina’s Low Country.
Love ALL of her books, especially the Low Country ones
Never disappointed in one of her books.
One of Frank’s great reads. The best book that I have read in a while and very difficult to not put down!
One of my favorite authors who never disappoints
Reading about strong women makes me happy.

I always love her books—this one was not disappointing
I’ve read and enjoyed several of her books including all of the Sullivan Island books. This did not meet my expectations, but was good enough to finish. Interesting characters.
Loved the southern history
As always Dorothea Benton Frank creates an intriguing story with realistic characters you want to know. Hard to put down!
I absolutely enjoy all of Franks novels, especially all those based in the “Low Country”.
