New York Times-bestselling author Gwen Bristow’s spellbinding Plantation Trilogy compiled in a single volume
The Plantation Trilogy is an epic series of historical novels that bring to life the history of Louisiana, from its settlement in the late eighteenth century to the post-World War I era, via the intertwined lives of the members of three families: the Sheramys, the Larnes, and the Upjohns. Sheramys, the Larnes, and the Upjohns.
Deep Summer is the story of Puritan pioneer Judith Sheramy and adventurer Philip Larne, who marry and strive to build an empire in the Louisiana jungle during the time of the American Revolution.
The Handsome Road tells the story of plantation mistress Ann Sheramy Larne and poor Corrie May Upjohn, who forge an unlikely bond of friendship as they struggle to survive the cataclysms of the Civil War and Reconstruction.
This Side of Glory presents the story of Eleanor Upjohn, a modern young woman in the early twentieth century who marries charming Kester Larne and struggles to save the debt-ridden plantation that her husband’s ancestors founded more than one hundred years ago.

Because I enjoy historical fiction I really enjoyed this trilogy. I am also partial to family saga so these books were perfect for me.
One of the best stories about plantations I have ever read. The characters were wonderfully written. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys reading plantation/slavery/Civil War novels.
These books are romance and historical fiction set around the the Civil War years. Gwen Bristol is a great author and her other books shouldn’t be missed. I read them years ago and just like Gone With the Wind they should be read again.
I loved this trilogy. The main characters are generations of early Louisiana settlers and their families, starting with the ones who built the first houses in the woods. It was a great historical fiction story. I highly recommend reading all three books.
I loved reading the history as described by the characters of the book. It gave me a new appreciation for the civil war from many different points of view
Really enjoyed reading all the traditional ways of the South, interesting
True love conquers all and has throughout history
Read these books many years ago and enjoyed them a second time through.
Because I knew little of the history of Louisiana, the storyline interwoven with that part of history was truly delightful. Unforgettable series that are counted among my favorites. Just loved these books.
An excellent fictional account of life in Louisiana traced by generations of families.
I read this series in high school many, many years ago. It was well done, a simpler version of Gone With the Wind.
Excellent books. I refreshed my knowledge about early American history – slavery, Civil War, reconstruction era, and World War I. Very well written and certainly worth the read.
These books and characters of Gwen Bristow are delightful and fun to read while still giving a good sense of what life was like back then.
Wonderful book
I have been an avid fan of Gwen Bristow for many years. I own all of her novels and have reread them many times. These books are brilliantly written.
I started reading the first of these three books and I’m really liking it. It’s just what I like: well drawn characters related to each other in interesting ways and engaged in interesting involved story lines. I’m looking forward to the next two books!
Loved it
This is Historical Fiction. I read them when I was young and re-read them twice since! If you liked Gone With The Wind you’ll like this Trilogy.
All three books are good, easy to read books. Read them first years ago, when I was in high school. Enjoyed them then and again when I read them.
I love anything about the South. These three books took you through generation after generation. I learned a lot about the River Road area of Louisiana and plan to visit it next year as a result of these books.
