This is a great introduction to starting a plant-based diet. I liked that there were a few recipes to help. I don’t think it’s supposed to be the be all and end all of the conversation as it’s such a short book. It is an ideal way to help readers become aware of and focus on the diet.

I enjoyed the recipes and felt this is worthy of a read by those who want to decrease unhealthy meat. The use of eggs makes this off from a strictly plant-based diet but I was happy with the recipes as is.

Bizarre 10-Recipe Collection
Oh, my goodness! Where to start with this book? The PDF advance review copy that I received is only 16 pages long. It is hard to imagine how the author could have gotten so much wrong in so few pages!
The first place the author got it wrong was right in the teeny, tiny three-paragraph introduction. She tries to state that a plant-based diet isn’t just a version of a vegetarian diet. Duh, of course it is! Why is it not just a vegetarian diet? Because it has things other than vegetables! Seriously! Does this author not know that, say, almonds—specifically mentioned in the non-plant list—indeed come from a plant, namely an almond tree? Interestingly, the author briefly discusses that products of the farm, like eggs, can be harmful to the gut. Of course, vegetables are products of farms as well. Sigh.
The 10 recipes included in this were a joke. After railing against farm products like eggs, several recipes, of course, did include eggs! One was a veggie scramble that included eggs. In the headnote of this particular recipe, the author mentions spinach being in the recipe, but spinach is nowhere to be found in the actual ingredient list or directions. A garlic guacamole dip has no avocados and is instead based on cauliflower. Avocado is a plant, right? So why couldn’t the author make this *guacamole* recipe a true guacamole recipe? Like the other books with recipes that this author has written, she has some strange affectations with wording. Namely, she uses in the word *of* in the ingredient list (e.g., 1/2 cup of potatoes) and throws in the word *your* when referencing the ingredient in the directions (e.g., add your potatoes). The ingredients were not listed in the order used in the directions. Several recipes had just one or two plant-based ingredients (like the noodle kugel with raisins and apples). I could go on and about these recipes, but I think you get what I’m driving at. Even though this book only has 10 recipes, there are problems with most of them. Because of these issues, I cannot recommend this book.

Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the understanding of the book with the ingredients. The dietary understanding was intriguing. The recipes are yummy as well.

Let’s begin with the definition of what a Plant Based Diet is. It’s a diet that incorporates plant foods such as fruits, veggies, legumes, grains, nuts and seeds, AND ELIMINATES ALL ALL ANIMAL PRODUCTS including meat, fish, eggs, dairy, gelatin and other animal byproducts.
Aside from that, the recipes look straightforward and easy. Not a lot of complicated ingredients which is good for the beginning stage of this healthy lifestyle.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily review it and the comments are 100% my own.
