“Small-town contemporary romance as its finest.” – NYT Bestselling author, Kristi Cook. For the last dozen of those years, Jayne has lived half way across the country, and even though she and Nick have stayed in contact, she hasn’t actually seen him since he kicked her out of his wife’s funeral almost four years ago.Does she still have feelings for Nick? Possibly. . .maybe. . .okay, yes, but the … . .okay, yes, but the Jayne who left town all those years ago is not the same Jayne who’s moving back. This Jayne is smarter, more experienced, and determined to build herself a better life, the kind of life she wants and deserves. She’s a grown-ass woman with a plan for crying out loud, and she’s not about to let these feelings for Nick slow her down another second.
But from the second she hits town, she knows it’s only a matter of time before this freight train of disaster derails in spectacular fashion, and when it does, she’s not only going to lose her best friend, but the only family she’s ever known.

Thanks for a great book. The characters were real and wonderful
Great read
I loved this series. I have read the entire series.
A different kind of love story. It was kind of sad too.
great book. couldn’t put it down once I started it You’ll cry for the life the heroine endured but she doesn’t let stop her. great characters (ok some not so great but that’s ok) A really feel good friends to more story but without the explicit sex. You won’t be disappointed!
Twelve years agoJayne stood in this exact spot, Jaynes gran who had never shown any affection pushed her out of her shop and closed the door. Even in the past four years when she came back to town to visit Nick, she never, even though she wanted to, had never stepped back inside the store, and after being humiliated at Abbey’s funeral four years ago, she avoided the whole town. But now that she has come home to stay that was impossible. The first person she see’s coming down the street slight limp and all is Nick Scott. Nicks not sure if he should give his best friend a hug or just duck. Jayne had thought about punching him over the last four years but who can stay forever mad at your best friend? But Jayne didn’t want a hug in the middle of town for anyone to watch. Nick was faster and hugged her, trapped in an avalanche of emotion that Jayne was totally unprepared for. The scent that had always been his, the one she tried hard to forget and failed. Two guys standing outside the hardware store had watched the greeting and now it will be all over town.,
Nick said you look great Jayne, and Jayne returns, you look great too and meant it. This is the very basic beginning to the suspenseful romantic mystery thriller I just could not put down. I loved it. Great characters wonderfully engaging plot. I was given this and I voluntarily leave this review.
A great feel-good story line. A little unrealistic, but still an enjoyable read.
After a lifetime of being best friends it has become important to let their relationship evolve into what it was meant to be. Although there are occasions of sadness and loss, this story is skillfully developed into a heart-warming tale if love and devotion.
A pleasant story, a quick read with very likable characters!
I enjoy this book so much that I got the other ones as well
Nice story
I really enjoyed the story …. it did drag out longer than the storyline supported.
PLAIN JAYNE is a standalone read with a HEA. There are no sex scenes but a little colorful language. I think it would be appropriate for any age. The main characters meet in kindergarten and are immediate friends when Nick jumps in to protect her from bullies. Nick is gorgeous and popular. She is rather plain and not seen as a romantic interest as they age. After she graduates, her grandmother tosses her out of the only house she has known. Puts her on a bus and never looks back. She makes a life for herself but she has to return home when Nick’s wife dies. There is drama at the funeral and as usual, she is blamed for it. She leaves again. the next time she returns it is to be at the reading of the will of her mean grandmother.
Nick seems to have a hard time seeing what is right in front of him. There are misunderstandings, hidden feelings and a really good love story. This is not a sad tale, it is a fun read and a good lesson for us all. I really enjoyed the story, one of the best I have read in months. I definitely recommend it.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 7/10/2019
I love this book and The writing style have gotten 2 more in the series.
I enjoyed the romance between Nick and Jayne, and the general premise of the story. I found Jayne very relatable. My one real issue with this book was that Nick was in a relationship with someone other than Jayne for three quarters of the story. No cheating happened, but I’m still not totally comfortable with that.
The supporting cast were strong, and I may go on and read Carter and Regan’s love story.
Loved this story–friends first.
This book was so good, that I added it to my favorites collection. Will definitely be reading more from this author.
A good read.
Keeps you guessing if and when the two main characters will finally get together. Fine descriptions of the motivations and feelings of the characters as they work through their relationship.
How often are best friends turned into lovers? Even though the end result was predictable, this story line offered enough twists and turns to keep me reading because you never know…something could go haywire.
