What do you do when the town golden boy, who never noticed you in high school, decides to make a play for your heart? For Minka Braxton, high school has been anything but easy. After a humiliating scandal sophomore year, she’s avoided the social scene and anything having to do with boys, especially of the popular variety. But with senior year approaching, Minka decides it’s time to take life back … life back into her own hands. That is, until Owen Axel, the type of guy she’s always avoided, decides he wants her in his hands.
Owen Axel is the definition of popular. Good looks, all-star worthy pitching arm and a former pro-athlete father make him Mitchum’s town God. Returning from college for the summer, his plan is simple. Beach, booze, and beautiful girls. But one look at Minka Braxton and he knows what he wants. He just doesn’t count on her not wanting him.
As the summer unfolds, both must decide how much to reveal, how deep they should fall, and what might happen if they strike out.

I really enjoyed the story. The plot has a little bit of classic line, with a popular jock and a bullied girl. But, Owen in college and Minka in high school. He’s not cruel or a jerk. He’s a little self centered and he always treats her good. His mistakes are from the lack of empathy at times (which he always recognizes) and he really loves her.
She doesn’t trust guys like Owen, and for good reason. She goes though a realistic situation, one that can happen to many people, and her family situation also plays an important role in the matter.
Both characters have an interesting personality, they have depth and their love story is romantic and inspiring. I definitely could read this book more than once.
Carrie Aarons has a way with words. You could tell that each character was so thoroughly thought through, I felt like I knew them through their descriptions, words, and actions. This was a delightfully sexy read! I more than loved it! Minka is a strong character, she sweet and sassy. She also has been burned before so she really tries to fight the feelings that Owen gives her. Owen is the “Golden Boy” he’s so handsome it’s devastating!
This is my first “sports” book and I really loved the images Aarons put in my head! I mean, come on, who doesn’t love a sexy guy in some nice snug Baseball pants! What Owen feels for Minka is a first for him and it’s completely new to him. They have quite a hilarious first start! I loved their story! It was a heartfelt read I just love storylines like this! I’m such a goner for a changed Playboy and the sweet and innocent spit fire! Don’t pass this book up if you’re looking for a fun-filled sweet romance with lots of heat! The love scenes…..well WOW, they blew my mind!! You won’t be disappointed!
Minka is guarded and tough on the outside. She has been through some terrible things. When the town golden boy shows interest, she walks in the other direction.
As much as I wanted to smack Owen, his character was probably more true than most males in romance. I like that his faults don’t melt away, but it makes me want to punch his pretty smirk.
I can’t wait to read Miles’ story. He also needs a swift kick in the ass, poor boy.
